Nonnenstein near Rödinghausen, Ostwestfalen, Germany

it's a old building in Helsinki, which is so nice and it's so dark inside. So when I saw the light, I wanted to take a picture...

Howth Harbour Lighthouse, built in 1817, is located at the end of Howth Harbour. The building, was also used for defensive purposes as the strong circular wall defends a gun position. The lighthouse keeper’s residence is the small Georgian style house attached. [Curious Ireland]

A Huge Thank You To Everyone For All Your Support ,hugs ♥

I don't know much about art, but when I come across someone whose work really speaks to me, I tend to get excited. Lately it's Rene Magritte who's been exciting me and... well, y'know. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - and a great way to learn.

One of the things I've learned about Magritte is that his mother died when he was young. She drowned herself, and he was there when they pulled her body from the river. She'd been wearing only a nightgown. As her body was recovered, the water pushed it up over her head. And that's how Magritte saw her - face covered, body exposed. And that... not surprisingly... influenced his work.

One of my favourite pieces of his is The Rape, in which a woman's breasts, navel and vagina take the place of her eyes, nose and mouth. Another of my faves of his (I don't know its name) is a woman with a mirror... not unlike my photo here... but reflected in her mirror is her naked body... from the back.

So this is kind of a combination of those two ideas.

It's been brewing for a long time. Feels good to get it out.

This picture (showing the 24th to the 40th floors) begins a series of the iconic Guardian Building in downtown Detroit, Michigan. It was built during the heyday of Detroit, completed in early 1929. Unfortunately, a world-wide economic disaster, the "Great Depression" began at the end of 1929.

The Guardian Building was a standout, built of an orange brick, with ornamental tile highlights amid a sea of gray limestone and marble skyscrapers. It was topped with a crown of lights that was spectacular at night. Its interior, in Aztec-Art Deco, that was so exceptionally striking, will be shown in upcoming pictures.

These teeny, seemingly fragile, very beautiful little Rosemary flowers are on a little plant in a 4" pot in the greenhouse. Is at max 1:1 magnification and also taken in aps-c, so effectively 1.5x, but with a 1.0 d.o.f. and a bit of a crop thrown in.

They were pretty awkward to photograph - I took some photos first and then uploaded in order to get an idea of what they were like, which didn't really help that much as even with the 20x was difficult to tell what was what on these pretty complex flowers, then I took a lot of various little flowers and angles but only a couple worth keeping. A bit hit and miss to say the least :^)

If you decide to travel along this highway into the bowels of the Universe, carry enough fuel to cover the billions of light years ahead of you. You won't find a place to refuel. When you have travelled this distance without finding anything, not even a little bit of intelligent life and you reach the far reaches of the Universe... don't be scared... there's nothing there, either. Only the "nothing". Or since everything is cyclical, perhaps you have returned to the place where you started, full of wisdom from your long trip. It's probably better to look for intelligent life on Earth, but it's also very likely that you'll have a hard time finding it. Don't worry about not understanding the Universe or the reason for its existence... you're not Einstein, but one day you'll understand that... The Universe is wounded, but it still has infinity ahead of it. It still has you and me. Merry Christmas to all and to the infinite Universe that is within you.

Gregory Alan Isakov - The Universe

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts VI–IX

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond", was written as a tribute to Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd. He was also known as "The Crazy Diamond Syd". Barrett was a very creative musician and is considered one of the rock icons, with a strong influence on many artists, very especially to David Bowie. Syd Barrett is a key piece to understand the evolution of rock in the 70s.. Excessive drug use, especially LSD, caused him serious mental health problems. Syd Barrett died in 2006 at the age of 60. Always shine diamond.

Blur - The Universal

The Universal is a science fiction song written as a tribute to two films by film director Stanley Kubrick. In the video, the Blur members wear outfits similar to Alex and his gang of thugs, the protagonists of the movie "A Clockwork Orange." The image used for the cover of the single alluded to what is possibly Kubrick's best film: "2001: To Space Odyssey."
