It was hard to accept. I wanted to hold out for hope but time was running out. We were cold and abandoned. A fresh wave of snow filled cloud made it's way up the valley and was now upon us. It was well past the agreed time and I had to face the unwanted reality that the chopper wasn't coming.
Just why it had happened this way I couldn't say. The weather was perfect right at the agreed time but it didn't matter now. I wanted to delay the decision to head back to the hut just in case, but, frustrating as it was, it was time to leave. The weather quickly deteriorated as we reorganised the gear.
Packs shouldered and ropes reattached once again we would retrace our steps. We were parched and tired and deflated. All our celebrations were left behind as we turned once again for the Hut. Not much was said on the return trip. It was quiet. No photos were taken.
Losing your creative spark and sense of awe is the worst. Don't worry, Flickr, I've still been taking photos in the last three months, but I find myself feeling less and less inspired. I see pretty things but know they won't photograph well so I don't even pick up the camera, glance at nice mountains and think "Eh, I've seen better," carry a tripod around on a hike and never once use it because I don't see anything worth it.
Personal standards get higher. Thresholds for jaws dropping get higher. And motivation gets lower.
Unless you have something to start that spark again, maybe. Mono Lake was on my Places to Go list for a few years and I finally got out there last week. Two hours there in broad daylight; two hours more that evening for sunset and Blue Hour. It's not a "pretty" place, exactly. It's eerie, it's uninviting, to be fair the swarms of flies and couple dead birds on the lakeshore weren't too pleasant. But those ghostly tufa columns, jagged islands, and above all a beautiful sunset? This was one place unlike any I'd seen before that was looking even better in photos than to the naked eye.
The photography workshop (mostly male and twice my age) also hanging out on the water's edge just out of frame at camera right probably all thought I was a nutcase. But who cares? If they didn't think to bring water sandals or even go barefoot and are sold on straight landscapes with no human element, well, I think I was having more fun than they were. I remembered the kind of things I love that make photography worth taking seriously, even if it means driving back to Mammoth Lakes at 9:30 in the dark and having a microwave dinner at 10. Worth it.
This is from my archives, going to be digging or mining the archive for a few days as my arthritis has flared up in my knees up badly enough that I can't walk more than a few steps. Hopefully by the weekend things will settle down.
Thank-you one and all for your visits and very gracious comments, all are very much appreciated.

HI ALL, To my AMAZEMENT!! I was able to get on the internet right now!! No clue why I haven’t been able to for more then a month. No clue how long I can stay on or if I will be able to get back on anytime soon.
My health is oretty lousy with allergies on top and pretty bad to. No covid I have been tested more then once. The guy in the next apartment seems likely to have covid, but refuses to be tested or mask up or isolate and the building doesn’t seem to be able to do anything. Guy next door says it isn’t his problem if anyone gets it they were ment to get it.
Anyway I have been stuck in my apartment due to health so I haven’t encountered him much so that is a good thing.
How are you all doing?? I hope well!! Enjoying life?? Doing anything fun this summer??
I better send this while I hopefully can.
Please take care and prayers for you all.
I hope you are all well. :)
Charles.
I do force this old body out for walks when i can and of course I need food so to get grocerys a very painful difficult thing to do. Ordering them to be dilivered is not affordable for me and not have internet accesse makes that not possible even if i could. But getting out some is good and thus these two pictures.
Hugs all. No clue when I'll be on again.
Charles.
I’ll admit I don’t know much about music. And I know less about how to photograph bands for their cover art, inserts, etc. So I went out and spent about an hour at a local music store just looking at album covers. What I learned was there was absolutely NO continuity between concepts artistic or otherwise for album covers. Some just have half of a guys head and a bunch of space next to him. Others will be some erroneous object that has nothing to do with anything related. While band shots usually have 3 of 4 band members looking at the camera, while the 4th person (usually the deranged drummer) looking to the side peeling carrots or yelling at a tree. Typically harsh lighting, vignette & some sort of faded texture or coloring.
I was asked to shoot an LA band this weekend, so I went to a house in the LA underground suburbs and using this as my only location, tried out some concepts. So this is the one I liked most. And everything in this photo is exactly as planned. Lots of visual things to look at. So much so, that we should play a game of I SPY
If viewed LARGE can you spy:
1. An alligator head
2. Battle ax
3. Whiskey bottle
4. Ten stinky toes
5. A child’s neck tie
6. Jesus candle
7. Old craggily boat captain
8. Strategically Placed half-naked Filipino
9. Mississippi Mud Black & Tan bottle
10. Road to Bremen “RTB” stamp
11. Hand-held accordion
12. Walking cane
First one to find all these items wins a free 4x6 of any photo I’ve ever shot in 2004.

This movement of a new c2c Aventra back to Wembley was my other main target for the day but at one stage I didn't think it was running, with the 720 eventually departing from Shoeburyness 34 minutes late but thankfully it was following directly behind my train from Upminster! I knew I had plenty of time to walk the short distance here as the connector loop was already occupied by the 3S70 RHTT ahead of it.
The introduction of the small fleet of 8 class 720s for c2c has become a very protracted affair with many mileage accumulation runs on the WCML in order to attain fault free running and the return of units to Litchurch Lane for modifications. The North Thameside commuters have been complaining vociferously about overcrowding in the peaks partly thanks to the removal of the small fleet of 387/3s that initially were loaned to Great Western for Newbury services and are now at work for Great Northern and have been pressing hard for the introduction of the Aventras as soon as possible.
I know this sounds terrible, but since around the time of this trip, Rohingya refugee boats were hugely on everyone's mind while I was living on the Thai-Burma border, I felt like I was getting a tiny taste of what it's like to be overcrowded and exposed to sun.
i dont know what its called but the only thing i know tha its related to the opium plant... in iceland we call it (valmói)... :)

It's such a fine line
That keeps me searching for a heart of gold
This was from a day that seemed forever in coming. I have been following Zora on Instagram since I first joined. So many things about her feed attracted me. Of course, she is beautiful, but that was the least of it. Her energy, kindness, care about others, love of food and culture and just her good spirit are just so obvious in every post. Zora doesn't consider herself to be a model and this was her first shoot. I am so thrilled it was with me.
I have to say that I had huge hopes about the shoot going in. I've been looking forward to it for so long, and that probably put more pressure on Zora than is really fair. The truth is that she exceeded all expectations. She absolutely couldn't have been nicer, more fun, nor a better model. It was fantastic.
I was also thrilled to have Echo there to do the hair and makeup. Zora and Echo had actually met a number of years ago and they got on like old friends. That added so much to the experience

I can't stop missing you
but I must try to forget
I don't want to hurt again
So hurt, really
Do you know?
Of course, you will never know, 4ever.
I'm SO SAD
Be stupid person, I won't know, you too.
I don't think I will ever get over this shock
Try to forget. Doing whatever you like.
I won't think of you everyday.
more ever, I'll delete all.

Sometimes I get hired to photograph weddings at Five Star resorts overlooking the pacific ocean. Other times I’m hired to photograph weddings in the backyard of a suburban house in the ghetto. Regardless of location, my goal is the same, and you all know what that is by now. So I was more than surprised when we got back from the church only to see their entire backyard transformed into a beautiful tented setting. Uplighting, table settings, matching drapes, and each table with it’s own personal touch. Really shows that it’s possible to keep it simple and save money while showcasing your creative side and having a great time. I ended up leaving at 10pm and I know the party continued into the night. (click on the photo in the first comment to see a fisheye of the entire backyard at twilight)
They had uplighting against a curtain by their head table so I used my SB800 flash on 1/4th power remotely triggered with my Cactus V5 to get them back-lit like this.
And be sure to check by my other acount: www.flickr.com/photos_user.gne?path=&nsid=77145939%40..., to see what else I saw recently!!
Yes I'm back again.
However due to my main computer on which I edit my work being struck down with a big bad virus, this picture and all the others I am uploading, were Unedited but have now been replaced with Edited versions. So enjoy and Thanks for your patience and understanding.
I do still hate everything about this shit that is new Flickr and always will, but an inability to find another outlet for my work that is as easy for me to use as the Old BETTER Flickr was, has forced me back to Flickr, even though it goes against everything I believe in.
I don't generally have an opinion on my own work, I prefer to leave that to other people and so based on the positive responses to my work from the various friends I had made on Flickr prior to the changes I have decided to upload some more of my work as an experiment and to see what happens.
So make the most of me before they delete my acount: www.flickr.com/photos/69558134@N05/?details=1, to stop me complaining!!

Oh no-there`s got to be a better way
Say it again
There`s got to be a better way-yeah
What is it good for?
War has caused unrest
Among the younger generation
Induction then destruction
Who wants to die?
War-huh
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War-huh
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Yeah
War-I despise
`Cos it means destruction
Of innocent lives
War means tears
To thousands of mothers how
When their sons go off to fight
And lose their lives
I said
War-huh
It`s an enemy of all mankind
No point of war
`Cos you`re a man
Give it to me one time-now
Give it to me one time-now
War has shattered
Many young men`s dreams
We`ve got no place for it today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord, there`s just got to be a better way
It ain`t nothing but a heartbreaker
War
Friend only to the undertaker
War
War
War-Good God, now
Now
Give it to me one time now
Now now
What is it good for?

Not all mountain summits guarantee a wonderful vista.
After the rest of the group had started their descent I remained on the summit of Ben Nevis. There was just one other chap up there at that time and he can be seen through the murk stood on the summit cairn seemingly having a moment to himself. We would shortly both leave and the summit would be once more deserted and left to the snow buntings.
As can be seen there are a number of ruins and memorials that mark the summit. There were many more a few years ago as crosses and litter were found everywhere. Thankfully the summit was tidied up and seems to have remained in a stable state since.

We were lucky enough to board our favourite aircraft of all times - The supersonic Concorde! Our tickets included the Concorde Experience which allow you to sit inside the only operating Concorde simulator in the world, used by former pilots to train.
G-BBDG or 'Delta Golf' was the first Concorde to carry 100 passengers at Mach 2. She was used in the early development of Concorde for testing and certification. Delta Golf had a flying life of seven years, from the 13th February 1974 to the 24th December 1981.
The Brooklands Concorde was known as a 'production' aircraft, as she was developed from the prototype, and used to complete the majority of certification work specified for airline service. She was never used commercially, but Delta Golf was flown around the World to attract sales from international airlines.
After her final landing on Christmas Eve of 1981, Delta Golf was stored, initially serviceable, in a hangar at Filton. In 1984, British Airways acquired the aircraft, and used her as a source for spare parts for their fleet. Delta Golf was offered to Brooklands in 2003, and, after delivery of major sections of the aircraft in June 2004, a two-year restoration project commenced to recover G-BBDG to her former glory. On the 26th July 2006, Delta Golf was opened to the public at Brooklands Museum by HRH Prince Michael of Kent [brooklandsmuseum]
The Blue Tit is a popular and easy to recognise garden favourite. With its small size and distinctive blue and yellow plumage , the Blue tit is a regular garden visitor that’s wide spread throughout the British Isles and mainland Europe. The Blue Tit is a member of the Tit family of birds , Paridae . Usually resident , the bird does not migrate and in fact most stay within a short distance from where they hatch , typically less than 20 miles.
The Blue Tit is around 12 cm long with a wingspan of 18 cm and weighs between 11- 20 g . With a blue crown and dark line passing through the eye, with white cheeks to the chin. The forehead and a bar on the wing are white. The nape, wings and tail are blue and the back is yellowish green. The underparts is mostly yellow with a dark line down the abdomen. Both male and female adult birds have a similar appearance.
The Blue tit will nest in any suitable hole in a tree, wall, or stump, or an artificial nest box, competing with Great Tits and House Sparrows for nesting sites. The same hole ( nesting site ) is returned to every year, and when one pair dies another pair will takes possession of the nesting site. It is estimated that there are 3,300,000 breeding pairs in the UK.
The successful breeding of chicks is dependent on sufficient supply of green caterpillars as well as satisfactory weather. Breeding seasons may be affected badly if the weather is cold and wet between May and July, particularly if this coincides with the emergence of the caterpillars on which the nestlings are fed.
Eggs are small in size, 14–18 mm in diameter. The egg size does vary, depending mostly on the size of individual females and habitat . The nesting material is usually moss, wool, hair and feathers, and the eggs are laid in April or May. The number in the clutch can be very large with seven or eight eggs laid by a single female. During the incubation period, female blue tits perform all of the incubation, however the male feeds the female during this time.
The Blue Tits diet is made up of small insects and spiders during the summer months supplemented by fruit , nuts and the young buds of trees and plants. The bird has adapted and evolved the ability to digest milk and cream and is an acrobatic favourite on bird feeders up and down the country.

Drifter; development 2008 to 2016, realization 2017
In addition to early designs, the exhibition features new, previously unseen work by the Dutch duo Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta – the founders of Studio Drift. Specially for the presentation at the Stedelijk, Studio Drift will create the largest-ever installation of Fragile Future. At the core of the installation will be Fragile Future Chandelier 3.5 (2012) acquired by the museum in 2015. Another highlight is Drifter, a floating concrete monolith measuring four by two by two meters. After making its world première at New York’s Armory Show in 2017, this magical installation will be on display in the IMC Gallery at the Stedelijk. The film Drifters (2016) and the installation Materialism (2018) go on view for the first time. In total, the presentation comprises eight of Studio Drift’s room-filling installations, together with a selection of films.
The work of Studio Drift occupies a unique place at the interface between tech art, performance, and biodesign. As a museum that has always placed great importance on both art and design, and performance, the Stedelijk Museum is the perfect venue to display this transdisciplinary work. Gordijn and Nauta engage with contemporary topics such as sustainability, the meaning of natural processes for today’s environment, and issues raised by the use of augmented reality. Their work focuses attention on a society in flux, shaped by the impact of fast-paced innovations, without judging.
Bedrooms are spaces that are always exciting to design. A lot of our life is spent there. Therefore, they should be designed in a way that's perfect for unwinding, resting & sleeping. It would be great to reflect the owners' personalities in the design. This bedroom is bathed in white: white walls, white curtains & white furniture. This brings a lot of life end excitement into the room.
The large windows visually connects the room to the exterior and brightens up the space. The timber floor gives the space a warm feel. As simple as the design looks, it all comes together very well for an amazing look || follow for more
Throwback to last year when i chanced upon this encounter with an American Mink and it's prey at Starkey Bottoms in Colne. Out with my camera and i heard splashes in the water, then looked over the river bank and the mink was swimming towards a protruding rock; where it placed the rat (still alive). Both pausing for a few moments until an almighty fight broke loose, the mink eventually succeeding and later dragged the rat underneath the river bank to where i presume the mink had it's burrow.
Two hours earlier…
Deep down, I always knew this day would come. The day when Batman would destroy Bruce Wayne. Part of me always hoped it would never come to be, at least no with Alfred still around. I always knew that it would break his heart. Hell, it even upsets me and I’ve spent the best part of my life loathing the damn place. But it’s for the greater good, and Alfred knows that. If that weren’t the case, he would have almost certainly fought to stop me.
”Are you alright beloved?”
”As good as can be expected.”
”You’re worried about what my father will do to your allies.”
”What if we run? If your father’s anger lies solely with me, surely if I leave Gotham he’ll abandon this assault and pursue us both?”
”Even if we did do that beloved, you know my father’s ways, and my father knows yours. If we did flee, he’d destroy Gotham simply to draw you back. We both know there’s no way you could just look away from all the destruction that was being in your name. My father always intended to destroy Gotham whether you fell to Damian’s blade or not.”
”All to make a statement. No-one betrays the Head of the Demon.”
”And to lay to rest the rumours of his ill health.”
”Are they genuine?”
”It’s not my place to….”
”Talia, I need to know everything about him if we’re to stand a chance. Please….. tell me.”
”My father has been slowly dying for almost two decades. The Lazarus pit sustains him, but his body is reaching the point at which it cannot survive without daily exposure to the pit.”
”The very thing that’s keeping him alive is slowly killing him. That’s why he’s spent all this time trying to find an heir, his time is running out.”
As I utter those words I notice a single tear drop down the left cheek of Talia’s face. Her statement is genuine. Ra’s is running out of time. That’s why he’s choosing to act now. Damian’s place in the League is uncertain thanks to my desertion, so to demonstrate his rite to the title of Heir to the Demon, Ra’s intends for him to slay the one person he has been unable to.
Bruce Wayne.
Batman and Gotham are merely collateral damage in all of this.
Despite my best attempts to excuse all this, reality is hard to ignore. This is all my doing, what comes next is the result of my actions. It’s all down to me as to what those actions become. The only consolation to all this is that this fight will not be my own. No matter how much I wish it were.
With that thought racing through my head, I take a moment to wipe away the tear on Talia’s cheek in the hopes of cheering her up. She knows deep down that there’s realistically only one way this will end.
She’ll lose either her father or me.
Assuming Jason makes it to Gotham with the Lucifer in time that is. Otherwise, poor health or not, Ra’s will ultimately triumph. Even with my above normal physical endurance, it would only be a matter of time until I made one fatal error, and that’s all Ra’s would need.
”Hey. Everything’s going to be alright.”
”We both know that’s not true, Bruce. Like it or not chances are someone from my family isn’t walking away from this.”
”Not if I can help it.”
”If you don’t kill my father he’ll just bath in the pit´s waters once more and continue this crusade against you. Whether you like it or not, there’s only one way to end this.”
”I won’t kill him Talia, even after all he’s done to us.”
”You have no choice, Bruce. Even if you do somehow manage to miraculously defeat him without taking his life, unless you let him bath in the pit he’s going to die. And when you do, he’ll fight you again, and again, and again. Until one of you breaks the cycle. Like it or not, either you’re going to kill him, or your morality is going to kill you.”
I take a moment to pause and consider Talia’s words. They’re of course correct. It’s almost impossible for me to claim that I wouldn’t expose Ra’s to Lazarus if I were fortunate enough to take him prisoner. After all, choosing not to save someone is just the same as killing them yourself. That’s why to this day I still believe that Batman killed Harvey Dent. I chose to save his daughter, but not him. My own actions were the reason for Two-Face terrorising Gotham.
Whether we like it or not, all our actions have consequences. It’s merely a case of deciding which ones we can live with.
As Talia and I enter the house’s basement, I take a moment to inspect the fake wall my father had built long before I was brought into this world. My mind always wondered what his reason for building this wall was. Did he have a sordid affair that he chose to hide from the world? Was he a black-market dealer? Or did he just simply crave an area dedicated only to himself.
I may never know the answer as to why the wall was built, but it has proven to useful at times. On the day of my parents’ funeral, I came here to hide from Alfred intending to take my own life. Fortunately, I was never very good at hiding from Alfred. At least, not as Bruce Wayne. Since then, the room has become a hidden storage of sorts. My contingency in case I needed to destroy Bruce Wayne but protect Batman.
As I push the wall back to reveal the concealed entrance, I lay my eyes on the four gasoline cans that have been there since I first put the cowl on. A primitive method of erasing evidence, but that was the point. A well organised explosion would arouse suspicion, imply that something was being concealed. But a setup like this? You’d have to be Batman to know that it was a rouse.
Whilst I begin to carry two of the canisters out of the room and towards the front entrance of the house, Talia takes a moment to glance inside the room.
”Why is everything in here broken?”
”It’s a reminder.”
”A reminder of what?”
”Of the pain I felt that night. And a reminder of my promise. That no other child should have to feel that pain.”
”You came here that night?”
”I came here most nights after Crime Alley. It wasn’t until the day of their funeral that I decided to stop coming here.”
”That was the day you considered taking your life.”
”You see that rifle? I stole that from its mounting in the hallway and ran here with the intent on taking my life.”
Talia appears surprised that I would admit to that so easily, then again most people are always so hesitant about admitting to suicidal thoughts. Most people these days use it more as a joke than actually committing to the act itself.
”What stopped you?”
”It jammed.”
”Bruce….”
”Alfred stopped me. He reminded me that they gave their lives to save mine. To throw my life away as well would have been the ultimate betrayal. I owed them so much more.”
Without a moment’s pause, Talia picks up the other two canisters and begins to follow behind me. She says nothing, but she doesn’t have to say anything at all. Her actions speak volumes.
”How do you plan to detonate these?”
”A small breaching charge from my belt will suffice. We’ll put them in the front entrance of the house, that way most of Gotham should be able to see the explosion.”
”What then?”
”Well first, we give them a warning. Then we’ll use this as the proof.”
”A warning? From who? Batman?”
”No. From Ra’s Al-Ghul.”

Chalybion californicus
Distribution / Verbreitung: Mexico to Southern Canada (Great Lakes Region)
The name "mud" dauber refers to the nests that are made by the female wasps, which consist of mud molded into place by the wasp's mandibles. The nest is a simple, one-cell, urn-shaped mud structucture that is attached to crevices, cracks and corners. Each cell contains one egg. Adults of both sexes frequently drink flower nectar, but they stock their nests with spiders, which serve as food for their offspring. Mud daubers prefer particular kinds and sizes of spiders for their larders. Instead of stocking a nest cell with one or two large spiders, mud daubers cram as many as two dozen small spiders into a nest cell. Chalybion californicum, the blue mud wasp, is most famous for its predation of black widow spiders. To capture a spider, the wasp grabs it and stings it. The venom from the sting does not kill the spider, but paralyzes and preserves it so it can be transported and stored in the nest cell until consumed by the larva. A mud dauber usually lays its egg on the prey item and then seals it into the nest cell with a mud cap. It then builds another cell or nest. The young survive the winter inside the nest.
