This must be what it feels like to be famous! A crowd of screaming Japanese schoolgirls clamouring to take your picture. It was short lived, thankfully. There are only so many smiles to go round.

This summer never seems to get there, does it. Even when it’s not raining, it remains overcast or a haze forms when the warmth starts getting to the damp soil.

Theme: "A Letter from the Alphabet"

I have two little cousins that love to hear me telling them horror stories. The last time they visited, I invented this story, which I quite liked, so I decided to write it down and make this photo.

It was also really fun taking this shot. We actually went in some woods near midnight with a candle and a girl wrapped in a blanket. People should have thought all kinds of stuff!

Thank you so much for being such a weirdo with me, Giovanna!

---------------------

England, 1863. It was a late winter night. The cold wind blew through the large stone corridors of the Brocklehurst mansion. Not much could be seen, once several of the candles responsible for lightning the place were already dead. The brightest place in the whole house was the west-wing living room, inhabited by two siblings sitting by the fireplace, each one involved by a thick, brown blanket. Annabelle and Jonah were completely by themselves. Even though the family once was very influent and rich in the town, it all ended when their mother mysteriously passed away. Her body was found in the woods surrounding the house, with no apparent wound or signs of struggle. Her health was perfect and some sudden illness was very unlikely. Some would say her soul was taken by the dark spirits of the forest, as told by an old legend a lot of people refused to believe.

Since her death, the Lord Brocklehurst lost all his will to live. The businesses ran by generations in the family slowly decayed to almost inexistent levels. The mansion, once always brilliant and filled with maids, servants and delightful balls for the aristocracy, was now completely abandoned and infested with spiders, rats and dust. Some would say the Lord even lost his savvy. It was common enough to him to depart with no warning, leaving his children behind.

“I wonder when dad will come back this time.” Annabelle said to the air, clearly not paying attention anymore to the book her brother was reading for her. Jonah stopped, looked at the girl for a few seconds and closed the book soundly, making a cloud of dust rise from it.

“Don’t wait up too cheerfully.” he said, standing up and leading himself to the opposite side of the big room to give the book back to an immense bookcase filled with stories and tales, when the sharp scream of a girl made him drop it, as darkness engulfed everything.

“Calm down, Ann! What happened?!” said the tall young man, half-closing his eyes trying to adapt to the murk.

“The fireplace… It… It just went off out of nowhere!” she answered, with little sobs in her voice. The boy then found his way back to her side, making her skip a heartbeat when he hugged her. After calming Annabelle down, Jonah went to the next room and took a few half used candles.

“I’m sure it was just a wind gust.”

“It was not!” she answered, still with a trembling voice. “I was right here, I didn’t feel anything! It just… I think I saw something red in the fire and then it extinguished.” A chill went through her spine.

“Don’t be silly. Here, look.” He pointed to the fireplace. “The firewood just withered. We need some more.”

“But we ran out of it, brother… These were the last ones. It should have endured through the night…”

“Then… I’ll get more in the woods.”

A deep silence took place. Even though the stories were hard to believe, they didn’t enjoyed going in there, especially after their mother incident. But there was no option. They would definitely freeze without any fire.

“You stay here. I’ll be back in a few minutes.” He kissed Annabelle’s forehead, messed her hair, took the lamp and left the room. She heard him getting the axe, opening the huge front door and closing it.

Except for her own breathing and some whispers of the wind, the silence was absolute. She waited there, wrapped in the blanket, staring the nothingness.

     (…)

The clock ticked for way too long. Something was definitely wrong. She was really scared, yes, but it scared her even more to lose the only one she had left. The last one who cared for her. Some of the wolves in the woods could have attacked him, even though it wasn’t common for them to come close to the house. She took the blanket, put the candle in a white porcelain saucer and left.

It was a full moon, but the clouds covered it almost completely. The leafless, lifeless trees danced conducted by the wind - a macabre corpse dance. The branches cracking with the movement created the eeriest symphony. Annabelle took a deep breath, swallowed the fear and went down the stairs which leaded to the wood’s entrance. Walking carefully amongst the branches laying in the ground, she started to look for her beloved brother. She couldn’t scream or make too much noise, because that could call the wolves’ attention. So the girl continued going deeper in the forest, with her path lightened by a simple candle, whispering Jonah’s name. She walked and walked with no sign of him. Then, a scream echoed in the woods. Annabelle froze, and so did the wind. It stopped completely, putting an end to the orchestra it leaded. She then realized she was way deeper inside the woods than any sane person would be. The trees were so dense she couldn’t even see the dim moon’s light hiding behind the clouds. All the available light was coming from the candle.

Then, with her ear now left in peace, she began to hear, far away, a gentle low voice calling for her.

     “Annabelle…”

The girl ignored at first, but the calling was then repeated, a little louder. She recognized it coming from the southwest and began following it. As she went closer and closer to the source of her brother’s voice, it got louder, although it still was a whisper. Walking a little faster as she thought she would finally rendezvous, a glade revealed itself.

     “Anabelle…”

She heard from the other side of it. Walking cautiously, she kept following the voice.

     “Annabelle…”

When the girl reached the center, a weird feeling made her stop. She felt someone right behind her. She could feel its presence… Its heat. The hot breath right on her neck.

     “ANNABELLE.”

It was no longer her brother’s voice. It was a scratchy, cold and rough voice, the mix of an old man in his deathbed with the growl of a dreadful monster. She screamed and began to run desperately, leaving behind the blanket right where the thing talked to her. The girl didn’t look back; there was no need to see whatever it was that was there. And this way she continued, running as fast as she could, crying and protecting the light – her guide.

After running for what she thought being a few miles, Annabelle found herself in another glade. As the weak light revealed the path in front of her, she saw something. It looked like Jonah lying in the ground. Desperately, she ran to it and when tried to hug it, the girl realized it was just a blanket. Her own blanket. The same one she left exactly there in her first escape. “I had ran in circles… Stupid tricky forest!”, she thought. Then she continued walking, determined to leave that dark hell and ask for help finding Jonah. She walked into miles, feeling devastated and confused, when another glade was found. The same nightmare was repeated. Again, she was in the same place, even though she walked a straight path. Nearly exhausted, she couldn’t give up… Not yet...

     She ran.

     (…)

For the third time, there she was again. The same glade. Annabelle picked up the blanket, wrapped herself inside it, sat down and started to cry.

“It will be alright…” she tried to comfort herself. “I’ll just wait here until dawn comes… Then I’ll find my way back.” She thought of her brother. Would he be trapped just like she was? Maybe he just couldn’t find his way back. Yes, they would find each other again. They would be together again. They would.

She stayed there waiting for the time pass by. Obviously, she couldn’t sleep – her nerves wouldn’t allow her. So, with a low, faint voice, she began to hum the song her mother used to sing to her in stormy nights. Her heart was calmed. She felt like her mother was there for her.

Suddenly, a bell rang far away, making Annabelle goggle her eyes on its direction. Eleven times that bell was ringed. It was the town’s old clock, telling everyone that the eleventh hour has come.

“Just a few more hours… Everything will be fine.” she thought.

A cold, lonely and singing hour later, the clock once again made its announcement. The girl counted the bangs.

     Midnight had come.

Together with the twelfth strike, hundreds of crows flew from the woods in a skyward direction, creating a terribly loud noise that made her hide inside her blanket. Breathing fast, heart pounding in her throat, all she could think about for comfort was her brother’s face. She would find him. All would just become a terrible night dark. She prayed.

When everything became quiet again, she slowly began to uncover her eyes. Lifting the blanket, she discovered a pair of blood colored spheres staring at her. Her heart stopped. A death cold breath invaded the blanket, freezing her spine.

     “ANNABELLE!”

     Darkness.

To this very day, these woods are haunted. No one dares to enter the place. It is said that every full moon, exactly at midnight, it’s possible to hear a lonely lullaby coming from the woods. If it’s dark enough, a wandering dim candle light, held by the poor Annabelle, can also be seen.

Jonah found his way back into the mansion that night, finding it empty. Nothing had happened to him. He came back in a few minutes, just like he said he would.

The young man and the entire town searched for Annabelle, but she or her body were never found. She is still trapped there, for all eternity, looking for him, aided only by a candle. The clock she hears every hour always tell that the midnight has come. And it will never go away.

I've been waiting a long time to finally get a chance to shoot one of these little beauties (Slow Worm), and was lucky enough to have the Macro lens (Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM) to hand with my 6D when one showed up in my garden the other night. The flower is a little daisy on my lawn if you're looking for a sense of scale.

Will be interesting to see how many people view / comment on this, as when i looked in on Flickr yesterday, the place was mostly full of lynch mobs all very upset about the new interface and there was a lot less actual photo activity.

FWIW, i'm not surprised or that offended by the new direction, c'est la vie, it was always going to have to change or die, so in some respects its good that they are at least trying to create a new flickr. And the new layout actually looks great on an iphone, i've grown to really like it over the last few months. The problem is that its just not quite so elegant on the desktop pc when viewed in a browser, as it looks like they have tried to hang onto some of the old code and page elements for practical reasons and that feels like a bit of a fudge. Having been involved in a few thousand site designs over the years i can appreciate the problems they faced and also think that it wouldn't matter how they changed it, the fact that it had changed would cause problems for some, its just the way it is.

Dalai Lama Speaks Out

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama spoke out against China's forced nomad resettlement at the Kalachakra teachings in Bodh Gaya in early 2012. In a rare audience with Tibetans from Tibet, the Dalai Lama urged China's leaders to “instead of forcefully resettling them, building of hospitals and schools for the nomads around their grazing areas would be more constructive.”

The Dalai Lama, who has been living in exile since he was forced to flee his country in 1959, also urged Tibetans to plant trees around their houses and monasteries in Tibet.

Tibetan nomads’ very way of life is inherently connected to the land. Aimed at tightening its colonial grip over Tibet, China’s resettlement policies are a death sentence for Tibetan nomads and their traditional way of life that has been maintained, sustainably, for centuries.

(Quelle: www.berliner-verkehrsseiten.de/pfaueninsel/ )

The Cavalier House was built as early as 1804 and extended in 1824/25. It served as accommodation for guests and service personnel. Since 1825 it has also been called the Dantzig House, because the decorative façade parts were removed from a house in there and brought to Peacock Island by barges. It is said that these parts of the façade had already decorated a house in Nuremberg (since 1360), and that they had previously been made in Venice. The building condition of the Cavalier House is poor today, a renovation is announced for the next years. Today two families live in the house.

The gardening and architectural design of 67-hectare Peacock Island began at the end of the 18th century under King Frederick William II and his mistress Wilhelmine Encke. They had the small summer palace and a dairy constructed in a picturesque building style resembling a monastery gone to ruin, based on English and French models, with references to an ancient Roman style as well.

Modeled on islands in the South Pacific discovered approximately 20 years before, exotic trees and plants gradually took root on this island – as did the colorful peacocks and menagerie completing the exoticism of Peacock Island. However, most of its animals were given to the zoological garden in Berlin in 1842, which led to the foundation of the current zoo.

Later, during the era of Queen Luise, the island was transformed into an aesthetically stylized ornamental mock farm, but with farming practices intended to yield profits at the same time. The project was abandoned shortly thereafter, and Peter Joseph Lenné designed a picturesque landscape park in its place.

Today, Peacock Island – its palace, dairy and the other park buildings, its charming footpaths with beautiful views, nearly 400 old oaks and the oldest rose garden in Berlin – is a popular destination for leisurely strolls in peaceful surroundings. The island is part of the UNESCO World Heritage and is a protected flora and fauna habitat.

Peacock Island is a world-renowned example of garden design. Please help us to maintain the park as a place of culture and recreation.

The Cornwall Canal was built by the British government of Canada to bypass a troublesome rapids hindering navigation on the St. Lawrence at Cornwall, Ontario. Construction began in 1834 and was completed in 1843.

Running to Paradise

The wind is old and still at play

While I must hurry upon my way.

For I am running to paradise;

Yet never have I lit on a friend

To take my fancy like the wind

That nobody can buy or bind:

And there the king is but as the beggar.

Decided to "play" with fire today, I got some okay shots, but some of my pieces melted! This is just a quick little one. I like this minifigure and the shot itself, but I wish the focus was better. I don't suggest using fire with your pictures unless you are very careful, I had to set up a little area in my backyard to control it and keep it contained in a small space, also you run through the risk of melting your figures like I did, if you want to take that risk, by all means do! It was quite fun in fact taking this picture, but Im going to be more careful next time...

Well all things come to a end….And Jet is leaving us tomorrow and going to his new wonderful home and owners….His new name is going to be Sherlock…..Which is going to suit his inquisitive nature…

He, and all of Misty pups are going to be badly missed….Jet even more so….As we have had that extra time with each others to make that bond so much stronger, as only Shelties and humans do so dear……

Thanks to all our flickr friends, in giving me the most incredible support on my photos…..I really do think that I have been so lucky in attracting the very best members on flickr to share photos and friendship and stirring comments…….. Once again many thanks ….Steve

"Daffy-Down-Dilly has come up to town,

In a yellow petticoat and a green gown"

Today we went out in search of daffodils. Well, I went in search of daffodils - Barney just came along for the walk :) I'd been a bit worried that we might have missed the best time photographing them, as they seem to have come out quite early round here this year. However, after a bit of a wander, I found a few places where they are still in abundance and my ever-tolerant pup only did a little canine eye-rolling before sitting in front of them so I could take a few flowery photos.

The daffodil hunt ended up taking us close to one of Barney's favourite places to play up on the hills - The Stream (which is a pathetic teeny tiny stream... but it's wet, therefore adored!), so, after our photo session with the flowers, we carried on to play up there for a while. A successful morning outing all round really - we both got out in the sunshine, I got to see the pretty daffodils and Barney returned home happy, tired and considerably muddier and wetter than he was looking here!

Hope everyone is having a lovely springy weekend :) Also, to my lovely mummy and all other mums too - Happy Mother's Day for tomorrow!!

------------------------------------------------------

Separate note - ick, I'm not enjoying the new look Flickr at all. I don't like how the photo is displayed... or these silly little description and comment boxes on the side. I really don't like the white writing on dark background... My eyesight is bad already and this is making me feel cross-eyed. Hey ho, rant over - at least we had warning the changes were coming this time - just have to get used to it, I suppose...

sorry to have been missing, but all in all, it's been a little rough lately. I have everything back in my "office", but in the process, I lost the hard drive on my PC and just replaced it over the weekend. I then spent the weekend reloading software and trying to recover what data I could. Most of the stuff I've posted on flickr was lost, along with the files of what I planned on posting....... :((

I'll try to begin catching up this week, although won't be able to post much because of the loss. Darn, I have to go take more pictures!!!

Physically, I'm beginning to feel a little better every day, but believe it will take a little more time to get over the black mold symptoms totally. Have a great week!

Fed up with having obstacles thrown at us, we have decided we are going to fight our mental health issues and make a huge effort to better our lives. I am sick and tired of depression and anxiety being the main focus of our lives. We know we could succeed with our photography, we certainly have that passion so we are going to try to focus on that instead.

While in Whitby, we visited the tourist board, NYMR (North Yorkshire Moors Railway), and the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution), to see if we could do some work for them. The tourist board were very interested in our photography and we will be contacting them today. We spoke to the NYMR and we have contacts for them, and for the RNLI we have offered to donate our images, if they have any use for them on their website.

I have set up a go fund me account, as we need a little capital to get us started, so we can go ‘full steam ahead’ and hopefully we will improve our lives by helping ourselves to get there, and have a more fulfilling life.

If anyone can donate anything, no matter how small, or even share our go fund me page, we would be more than grateful. Thank you, and much love to you all. gofund.me/8aa242dc

Wanted to do another Walking Dead shot but instead came away with this. I love having a willing model for my work! Plus I only have to pay her in sweets which is much cheaper than your average model!

It's been too long since my last silhouette, I missed them!

Due to a derailment at Hoffman Ave. blocking No. 8's path out of St. Paul Union Depot, the train had to back up Short Line Hill, past Midway Station and onto the BNSF at St. Anthony. From there it crossed over via the Union Cutoff and down the former Northern Pacific through St. Paul to get back to its normal route. Whew! I am no expert, but this is what I know. Critiques of this are very welcome!

What is panning? It is a technique that is used to capture moving objects. One popular object to pan are cars, but you can also apply this technique to other moving objects like bikers, joggers, dogs etc. A good shot of a object in motion has the two following characteristics: (1) the object is sharp and (2) the rest is blurry. (1) and (2) give the picture a sense of motion.

The picture is a good pan of a blue Mazda6. How do I know it is a good pan? First, the car is sharp. If you look at this picture in original size you will see that the car is very sharp; you can even see that the driver has a small earring (at least he has good car taste). Second, the background is pretty blurry. Look at the trees behind the car - all one nice blur. Third, look at the wheels. Since the wheels move differently than the car, they are in motion. If you blow up the picture again you will notice that the middle of the wheel is almost still. In fact, you can almost see the small Mazda logo that is there.

For another example of a good pan look below at this pan of a Ford Tempo (one of my best pans had to be this old car!).

With 5 days off this week I am a lady of leisure.!!

Now, whatever shall I do to pass the time..??😉😘💋💖

I went all the way up towards Mount Tryfan in Snowdonia to get some stunning winter themed shots, but I just had to bring along some light painting gadgets! I just felt naked without them ;)

Met up with Andy Wilson, he's got some amazing landscape pics. Check him out some time.

Slight tweak on the on the curves.

Went to a party at a bourbon bar and had a great time! I am posing with the lovely Gia who I met at the party. Gia works on Wall Street during the day but loves to dress and go out to bars and clubs at night. Hopefully she can give me some good stock tips LOL!

I really like this room--clean, simple, and straight-forward.

Caption reads:

An indoor barbeque is an extra to consider when you build a family room. This one is part of an addition to an older home. It is adjacent to a patio and near the dining table inside, so that meals can be served in either spot.

You're sure to need some room by the grill. A minimum amount of space is from 2 to 4 square feet. You can always use more, but you'll need at least this much to set out plates or a platter to serve the meat. A chopping block is handy for carving; mount it on the counter or keep it in the storage cabinet. A cleanout door is a must if you use the grill often.

Back to Seal Rocks - this turned out to be a damn good sunset despite a thick bank of fog nearly skunking us in epic fashion. Taken shortly after this shot.
