"Just before dawn I have the world all to myself." Terri Guillemets.

The "Markt" (Market Square) has been the main square of Bruges since the 10th century, and therefore, can be considered the heart of this beautiful medieval city. Here events such as festivals, tournaments, riots, executions, and many more events linked to the rich history of the city have taken place over the centuries. In this square there are still monuments as characteristic of Bruges as the 12th century Belfry, and the elegant neo-Gothic building of the Provincial Court. Currently it is mainly a pedestrian space, with the permission of the bicycles, so common in the city, and the public transport. In addition to the many locals and visitors who walk across it, several restaurants have tables and chairs in the square, so if the weather is good, there is always a nice atmosphere on it.

Photographing it at sunrise was of course the best option to capture it without people. However, the businesses here take out the garbage at night, so that it is collected early in the morning. For this reason, I had to find a composition that would allow me to cover as many containers, bags and boxes as possible, in order to minimize the work of cloning the annoying waste that sneaks into the image. As always, I arrived before dawn, to compose calmly and then enjoy a space like this for myself in a totally different atmosphere.

I was born to love no one

No one to love me

Only the wind in the long green grass

The frost in a broken tree.

I was made to love magic

All its wonder to know

But you all lost that magic

Many many years ago.

I was born to use my eyes

Dream with the sun and the skies

To float away in a lifelong song

In the mist where melody flies.

Contrary to the Blue Skimmer I photographed recently, this female Fiery Skimmer (Orthetrum villosovittatum) posed on a dry Kentia seed pod without hiding her pretty face :) /

Contrairement a la Libellule Blue Skimmer que j'ai photographiee recemment, cette femelle Fiery Skimmer a pose sur une tige seche de graines de Palmier Kentia sans me cacher sa jolie face :)

Back from the US. Spent a lot of time thinking what actually really holds me back to get myself more into photography again and I came to the point that one reason is: organization.

Knowing that I had thousands of pictures which are just a mess in my lightroom catalog discouraged me and made me feel overwhelmed. I am currently setting up a new system to organize my pictures so that I can shoot more and actually enjoy photography again..not being afraid of it anymore.

Just came back from a six week road trip! I went to the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Sequoia, Redwoods, Olympic, Banff, Glacier, Arches, and the San Juan range in Colorado. This picture is from the top of Mount St. Piran in Banff. It overlooks the famous and gorgeous Lake Louise.

After having to turn back when the river levels proved too high to ford, I headed to the ruins of this old hunting lodge to have my lunch. Unfortunately the midges were hungry too, so it wasn't exactly a relaxing experience as I had to keep moving around to stop me from being eaten alive!

Dare to dream, live in peace, return to innocence. Enjoy viewing this in large image or please press L!

My bestfriend (the one in this picture) gave birth to a cutie baby boy.. and I have a new puppy on my own.. basically full of love for the last few weeks on my end.. and busy scooping poops and wiping pees 😄.. i hope everyone is safe and healthy.. i cant promise to catch up here but i will try..

At the moment I'm just trying to focus on whatever is facing me each day and nothing beyond that. Things are difficult. Within myself, mentally and physically... with my family, friends, work, the UK, Europe, the world. It's just one of those sort of years and having my life aperture set to about f/4.5 is pretty much all that is keeping me semi-sane. It's not a great system because is means I never focus on anything more, never pre-book anything and therefore never have anything to look forward to but it's how I need things to be at the moment. Small steps. I will use my CBT and try not to catastrophize but I refuse to think everything's ok when I know it isn't.

Here's to 2017 when hopefully I can start to use the sunny 16 rule a bit more and the future won't be quite so blurred and out of focus :)

If I were forced by some imaginary omnipotence to pick just one location in which to spend the rest of my days pointing my camera towards the sea, I don't think I'd look beyond Porth Nanven. It's never been lost on me that growing up in Cornwall has spoiled me with a glut of local hotspots, several of which I happily return to time and time again. Some photographers choose not to return to places after a visit or two, while others are content to retread their steps over and over, learning a location under all of its aspects. There's room for all of us of course. Yesterday unexpectedly, there was room for Katie, a friend I haven't seen for a while who is a wild swimmer and takes some spectacular underwater photographs. She's as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside and greeted me with the worst display of social distancing since it was invented by bounding towards me and wrapping me an enormous hug. I've missed hugs. It was a delight to see her. She's one of those people who make the world feel like a good place to be in. She'd been swimming of course, and was making ready to leave. time was moving on and she's an early riser who confesses to being no use whatsoever after 9pm. Sunset was due after 9:30.

In one of the more distant counties of our nation, this corner of delights is particularly remote even for those of us who live here, and the approach to it from the lonely windswept outpost of St Just is a descent into what feels like a primordial other world. It starts with a twisting drive on a narrow road flanked by high Cornish hedgerows adorned with foxgloves and campion, before a sharp descent takes you past the last few houses, one garden boasting enormous Canarian echiums covered in tiny spikes bearing thousands of purple blooms. A little further down on the final bend, a massive gunnera, leaves at least a metre wide spreads towards the road. The final drag down to the small car park is festooned with ferns and bracken. Finally you arrive on a beach consisting almost entirely of huge egg shaped chunks of granite, worn smooth by year upon year of Atlantic attrition. Hence the nickname, "Dinosaur Egg Beach." And then you look out to the ocean to witness the view, in this case with an ominous bank of threatening cloud that had the audacity to interrupt my sandwich and found me racing to set up the camera more quickly than I usually would. I'm pleased to report that I stayed dry, and it seemed from the wet roads that the cloud had instead dumped its contents 30 miles to the east over Redruth as I arrived at home later on after one of the most enjoyable evenings with the camera for quite some time.

... on a foggy day on our way to Cinque Terre

When I first arrived in Iceland, it took a while to let the thoughts fully sink in that I was indeed, actually, in Iceland; the number one country I had dreamed of visiting for years. The first couple of days passed with that dreamy, hazy feeling, not quite believing life is real. On the third day (a month ago today as I write this), my team and I went to visit some waterfalls... We were at Skógafoss, where I set up my tripod and camera while staring in silent awe at the cascading water. I began to shed my layers of scarves, coat and sweaters in preparation to put on my red dress for this self-portrait... and then I patiently waited. Waited for the sun and clouds to line up correctly to light the waterfall just right. Waited for the surrounding tourists to finish taking their photos. Waited for the breeze to blow the mist away from my camera lens. After almost 45 minutes, I finally saw my chance. I slipped off my shoes and ran towards the falling sheets of water, camera clicking away behind me... and was suddenly engulfed in the freezing, falling mist as I spun around joyously at the bottom of the falls. It was that very moment, when my clothes were soaked through and my feet kept slipping between rocks and I felt absolutely frozen, that my mindset finally changed from "dreamy, hazy" to "Oh my frognoggin' firecrackers this is freaking real" before I had to run back to the safety of my coat and scarf. It was one of those moments where I felt most alive... My heart felt so big and yet the rest of me felt so small. I have greatest respect for these places in nature and I simply can't fathom how beautiful this world is. It blows my mind over and over again.

Now that I'm all on my own

I saw you just the other day

My, how you have grown

Cast my memory back there, Lord

Sometimes I'm overcome thinking 'bout it

Making love in the green grass

Behind the stadium with you

My brown-eyed girl

You, my brown-eyed girl

A short while ago, I had the great pleasure of meeting with Pei for some photos, coffee and lunch. Going in, I was greatly looking forward to the shoot and coming out, I know I was right to be. She's a great person, not just a great model.

Echo did the makeup, which is always a good thing.

My dark orange FJ is finally complete! Well, mostly DO. Some parts simply aren't available so I opted to give it a little patina. I also changed up the hood/front design to make it look a bit older.

I am trying to stay busy and channel positive energy though my heart is heavy today. I wanted the toothpaste flying through the air but couldn't figure out how to create that effect. My "toothpaste" is just made from clay resting on a wire glued inside the tube. I am finding toys easier to work with than snails, they don't slowly move away or stay hidden.

The stairs from my Day 61/365 (see comments below for the image on that day) at the Church that go nowhere. You have to watch that last step it's a doozy!

The era of classic trains is slowly coming to an end. I recently read that ZSSK 163.109 had retired, and I'm glad I managed to capture it during the summer holidays, unaware of its imminent end on the railways. The Peršing wore retro green livery, the same as 163.107. The region where I captured the 109 is also unique, as it is famous for Tokaj wine. Many readers of my post have probably heard of, or perhaps even had the opportunity to taste, the wine from this region. Visiting this region was a pleasant new experience, and as you can see, the trains made the time—though brief, it was pleasantly spent.

163.109, with morning train Os 8504 Čierna nad Tisou - Prešov, approaching the station Slovenské Nové Mesto. At this point, I was about 300 meters from the border with Hungary, and on the other side there was a Sátoraljaújhely.

Peršing nosił zielone barwy retro, te same co 163.107.

'In whose sight all things joy, with ravishment

'Attracted by thy beauty still to gaze.'

I rose as at thy call, but found thee not;

To find thee I directed then my walk;

And on, methought, alone I passed through ways

That brought me on a sudden to the tree

Of interdicted knowledge: fair it seemed,

Much fairer to my fancy than by day:

And, as I wondering looked, beside it stood

One shaped and winged like one of those from Heave... John Milton. Paradise Lost

To get to this beach, you have to go through a 300-foot tunnel that was blasted back in the 1920s when Oceanside was a resort town. The tunnel is found at the base of the cliff just north of town.

I walk to the river

waiting to hear the water sing

I sit down beside her

trying to hear the quiet ring

the leaves break the falling

of the sunlight that covers these banks

I've seen the water running, I've seen the color wash away

Lyrics: Down Like Silver - To the River

From the last day of my hike in Patagonia. I still can't belive how lucky I was regarding the weather. Only half a day and a night with a bit of rain, othwerwise sunshine!

If there is a single road that leads to a view unsurpassed by few others in the southwest, then surely Transmountain Road cutting through the Franklin Mountains would be it. The winding and ascending journey along Transmountain will take one to 5120ft, which is where I stop one brisk January pre-dawn morning to watch the sun rise above the far horizon.

The temper of the mountain is calm at this hour, almost in a slumber in the brisk morning air. No giant pine trees soften the winter wind whispering in my ear. No singing birds or running deer to take my eye off the sky. Only high-elevation cacti and desert brush crawl along the rocks and boulders often jutting out like nature’s high rises descending in to the valleys on either side of the Franklins.

Looking west I see the near full moon sinking below the horizon. Seconds later, I turn to the east marveling at a fiery ball nudging above the desert floor, and the royal blue sky rapidly transforms with bursts of splendid golden hues as if Mother Nature’s paintbrush splatters across the heavens. In an instant natural fireworks fill the sky as the moon sets and sun rises instantaneously as I watch in awe. A moment passes and the sun’s rays stretch across East El Paso tickling the sides of the Franklin Mountains waking her for another day.

Gradually the glow of the rising sun ascends from the base of the mountain to its top as one slowly opens their eyes after a good night’s sleep.

The scenery starts to change as soon as you start your decent into the Eastern Sierras out of Yosemite. The mountains have huge granite peaks that are void of trees. This time of year you will still see snow on their peaks.

This leads down to Lee Vining and Mono Lake. If you haven't seen the tufas at Mono, you need to take time and take a few pictures. The short drive down to Lee Vining will take you to Highway 395. Whether you decide to drive North or South from here, the adventure will open up to a lot of possibilities. We went South to the Bishop area and explored a number of canyons between there and the Mammoth area. More pics to follow.

It was exactly like this.

Thanks to the folks that dragged me out of my Sunday morning slumbers because if they hadn't i would have just switched the alarm off and turned over.

The profitable house belonging to the architect N.P. Basin was built in 1878-1879 according to his own project with the participation of architect N.N. Nikonov. The style of the building is defined as Neo-Russian or pseudo-Russian. The five-story building stands out against the background of the strict architectural ensemble of Ostrovsky Square, the tone to which is set by the Alexandrinsky Theater erected in the era of classicism.

Basin's house, copying the motifs of medieval Russian architecture and folk arts and crafts, is distinguished by its splendor of decor. The facades are made with a lot of details and are generously decorated with stucco, reproducing the decorative motifs of Russian wooden carvings and embroideries. Bay windows are crowned with turrets, various in the design windows are decorated with carved "towels", kokoshniks crowning the cornice and spatterdock pillars.

We finally got to visit the windmill which is one of the biggest in Norfolk. It is quite difficult to get to as there is no road and unless you have a boat which we don't it is a six mile round trip walk although there is a tiny railway request stop fairly nearby. I was really impressed by the size of the mill so it was well worth the walk.
