This was taken a couple years ago on a rainy day. I sure would love some rain right now.
It's supposed to be 102F here today, ugh!!!!
The Australian pied cormorant (Phalacrocorax varius), also known as the pied cormorant, pied shag, or great pied cormorant, is a medium-sized member of the cormorant family. It is found around the coasts of Australasia. In New Zealand, it is usually known either as the pied shag or by its Māori name of kāruhiruhi. Older sources may refer to it as the yellow-faced cormorant. The pied cormorant is predominantly black on its back and upper surface of the wings and white on the underside with males weighing approximately 2.2 kg and females 1.7 kg. It stands between 65–85 cm tall, with a wingspan of 110–130 cm. A small yellow patch between the bill and the eye on each side of the head is likely to have been the reason for the historical common name. It has large webbed feet which it utilises to pursue fish underwater, steering with half opened wings. The bird has a large hooked bill, green eyes with a blue eye ring and black legs and feet. The eyes have a special nictitating membrane for underwater protection. The pied cormorant can often be seen spreading its wings after diving to help dry the feathers, as it has inadequate waterproofing. This lack of feather waterproofing may help the cormorant spend longer underwater due to decreased buoyancy effects. 41834
Last year we made a trip to Scotland and London during the Easter holidays. We left London and took the amazing Caledonian Sleeper train and arrived to Edinburgh in a cold frosty morning (first photo in the comments). We are not used to that kind of weather. At noon we picked up a camper van to made a road trip to the Highlands. Our first stop was the amazing Cairngorms National Park. Really Really cold. We took a walk to the nearby Loch Morlich and we were witnessing a perfect dusk. The colors in the sky were amazing. You can see it in the second photo in the comments below. We had dinner in the camper van and we went to bed. At one moment during the night the heater went off due a lack of heating gas, and we were freezing. We woke up early and then, through the windscreen we were seeing the snow coming down. It was quite a moment. Kids were running in the Park, playing with other kids, and took another walk to the Lake, this time with a totally different view. No more colors in the sky or trees. For us an unforgettable moment.

To finish off this series, Re 620 006 passes by with an empty gravel train from Romanshorn to Hüntwangen-Wil. These light blue hoppers are always a colourful sight! Attikon, 01-10-2021.
I don't usually like to upload more than one photo, since so many people only look at one photo a day from each person.
But I wanted to put something into Slider's Sunday, so I'm uploading a second photo today, anyway,
This is AI generated from a photo of mine. I used Deep Dream Generator, which now has "Text to Dreams", where you can tell the program what you want, in words. I started with a photo of mine, and after many experiments (and later editing), it grew into this.
I made this image before I started purposely keeping track of what the starter image was... but I will try to figure out what image this was based on, and put it into the first comment. But I might not be able to figure it out!
Anyway, HSS everyone. This is a Dream image out of my head!
In addition to the Yellow-rumped Warblers, we saw a lot of Cedar Waxwings eating the Cedar berries. In fact that is where part of their name comes from. From allaboutbirds.org: "The birds’ name derives from their appetite for cedar berries in winter." The bird pictured here is an immature bird as evident by the prominent streaking on the breast and faint looking black mask as compared to an adult. Anoka County, MN 10/04/20
Digging in the Archives Tuesday.
This is from a holiday in Austria and I now chose to make it select colour with the help of picmonkey.
thanks to GaryMcCall for the inspiration for this picture ... my photography has been lacking recently , feels good to be back in some form.

I've been wanting to recreate this for a while now, and the "future" prompt was a perfect opportunity. Loved working with these bright colors. They were relatively easy to see at 2 AM, at least. XD
I struggled to find the best angle to present, in the end you lose some top level detail (no postapoc build is complete without rubber duckies but you can't see mine in this shot!). Like yesterday, more photos will be coming to my Blockheads once I get some sleep.

This was meant to be just a recce as I favour a good sunset (ok we don't seem to get those atm) but the walk from where you park the car is longer then I expected especially when I've been suffering from a bit of a Lyme flare up this week. However for me poppies are enough of a motivation to shake off any aches and pains!!
The light and shadows I think were enough for me to come away with a couple of shots that weren't completely flat but I do favour that golden light
I hope to return before they go over! And summer where are you?
In addition to the previous shot... here is the bittern with its head pointing straight up. What I was astonished to notice was the position of its eyes! It is still looking straight at me! (See Large for the eye view).

What could I have done to put my own individual twist on this?
Frankly it wasn't easy to take the shot at all. If you worry about camera shake stand here and try to take a shot. Even hand held I couldn't stand still, let alone hold the camera steady with wind carried sea spray constantly misting the lens. But it's that fresh salty sea air, the wind and the sheer beauty of the island that makes me feel lucky. And I shared the whole island with just five cows and a little grey dog. I would happily share it with just one other.
If you want to be happy, be.

On Sateruday afternoon, Crossrail picks up a container train at the Kluizendok terminal in the port of Ghent. The train is headed to Mortara, and on the Belgian leg of the journey it is hauled by a class 66 locomotive.
On October 16th I took my daughter and son on a photo afternoon. While the little boy was sleeping and the little girl was drawing, I could make a photo of the Mortara shuttle that has just left the Kluizendok terminal.

What's that across your eyelid
What's that across your tongue
Which funeral comes marchin'
When the holy deed is done (yea)
And I wanna' know
Who you talkin' to man?
And I wanna' know
Who you talkin' to man?
And I wanna' know
Who you talkin' to man?
I'm gonna' grab your throat
I'm gonna' take your worth
I'm gonna' tell you something
Something you've never heard
Who knows you better than I
The one you've never known
I'll give you back your body
You can give me back my throne, (aii)
And I wanna' know
Who you talkin' to man?
I went to the railway station in Landquart to pick up my daughter arriving from London. We drove up to my hometown Schuders, located in the Swiss Alps near the Austrian border.
I processed a balanced and a soft HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

After stopping to throw on some handbrakes for the descent down Keating Summit, the Western New York & Pennsylvania's Driftwood turn is slowly rolling downgrade, with the dynamics on, and the aroma of brakeshoes wafting with them. MLW M636 637 is leading two (at the time) leased RRPX M636s (which have since been purchased by the WNYP), and forty-one cars as they roll towards the second Gardeau Road crossing.
The small islands of Elliðaey and Bjarnarey. These two volcanic remnants are within the archipelago of the Vestmannaeyjar Islands, off the south coast of Iceland and all spawned by the mid-Atlantic Ridge.
This shot is a re-up of a previous post, taken on the way back to the Icelandic mainland as a storm was rolling in off the North Atlantic, behind the ship. Was never happy with Version 1.0
I posted a similar shot taken on the way over to the islands only the day before this one. The difference in light and weather was quite dramatic.

There is something to be said about being a photographer, and married to a magician. He takes you along for the ride when he goes off to the mountains to perform a magic show.

We are in Banff, Alberta tonight. We are staying at the Banff Springs Hotel. Yes, that Banff Springs Hotel -- one of the most gorgeous properties on the planet. And the same hotel where some of the scenes from the horror classic, The Shining, were shot! Woooo!
Yes, I think this diva will stay.
Thanks, David!
Hey, I know...I will take a shot of the hallway, and then add some ghosts.
Oh, my, how original. Don't care - it'll be fun. Besides, I've turned out 2 chapters in only 2 days.
