On its first day moving under its own power since withdrawal from V/Line in 1993, newly-reactivated SRHC locomotive Y102 pumps out thick black exhaust as it powers along the headshunt hauling T382 (dead attached) during initial trial runs. 25/10/24
After Saturday's chaos on the R&N, I decided to take a little time to head over to Jersey to catch Black River and Western's 2-8-0, number 60 as she pulled the day's passenger excursions between Ringoes and Flemington, NJ. A great crew was working as usual and the sun stayed shining..
The 11:30 AM trip from Flemington crosses the Third Neshanic River in Flemington over the Copper Hill Bridge at a new vantage point thanks to some recent tree clearing work.

I was out on a prairie lake with the Coyotes howling at the northern lights. I was using my Rokinon 14mm lens but the EXIF shows a different lens., the settings are 14mm at f2.8. At this point a new pulse of electrons had come in and the structure changed to a bright ribbon with shards overhead remember this is with a 14mm lens the 180 degree Northern sky is all glowing!
The aurora charges from the right or Northeast and flows to the left the Northwest. I spent some time trying to capture this movement:) The moon was adding the light to the foreground but there is still a reflection.
The Third Place
The “Grand Stair” at the newly redesigned and renovated National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Seemingly, this grand stair - with its riser seating - has become a popular third place (a social environment distinct from the home - the first place, and the workplace - the second place) for students’ and professionals alike - many of whom were engaged in social and/or personal activities during our visit.
"Originally opened in 1969, a two-years belated centennial birthday gift to Canada, and designed by Fred Lebensold of Affleck, Desbarats, Dimakopoulos, Lebensold, Sise, the existing building was a brutalist masterpiece." Today, the main public areas of the building - the atrium and mezzanine levels - are airy light-filled spaces, which overlook Confederation Square and the Chateau Laurier - in short, the view is magnificent.

From 'Snow Day' at the beginning of February. I battled my way to the top of The South Downs like an intrepid explorer and found these wonderful parallel lines between the horizon and a hedge in a field. A couple of hours later and the had melted!

So I know third isn't too much to brag about, but when you're in competition for best in show against a little kid on her fat lil pony and think they deserve ALL of the places? Third is pretty dang good for your first time in a show!

I like the split in thirds of this shot and the unreal blue colour of the water - believe it when I saw it was this colour!
This was a great little place to stop with warm water, cocktails on the beach and watching the sunset.
