The Skyline Drive In, Barstow, CA in the summer of '92. This was right after it had closed and was left abandoned. In the 30 years since it has reopened and closed again, several times. It's still there, but changed a lot.
There was a chill in the air, but the night was too pretty not to sit outside. So i waved him out to the cozy courtyard as he sauntered in 30 minutes late. He'd been a bit late for our first date, too... and even moreso for the second. Establishing dominance... so adorable. And that was fine... they were all the easier to maneuver that way. Besides, he'd been doing pretty well so far... maybe tonight we'd discover just how much dominance he can actually deliver...

The Asian or Asiatic elephant (Elephas maximus) is the only living species of the genus Elephas and is distributed in Southeast Asia from India in the west to Borneo in the east.
Three subspecies are recognized—Elephas maximus maximus from Sri Lanka, the Indian elephant or E. m. indicus from mainland Asia, and E. m. sumatranus from the island of Sumatra. Asian elephants are the largest living land animals in Asia.
Since 1986, E. maximus has been listed as endangered by IUCN as the population has declined by at least 50% over the last three generations, estimated to be 60–75 years. Asian elephants are primarily threatened by degradation, fragmentation and loss of habitat, and poaching. In 2003, the wild population was estimated at between 41,410 and 52,345 individuals.
Female captive elephants have lived beyond 60 years when kept in semi-natural surroundings, such as forest camps. In zoos, elephants die at a much younger age and are declining due to a low birth and high death rate.
The genus Elephas originated in Sub-Saharan Africa during the Pliocene, and ranged throughout Africa into southern Asia. The earliest indications of captive use of Asian elephants are engravings on seals of the Indus Valley civilization dated to the third millennium BC. – Wikipedia

Katarina lounges in the rule of thirds. As usual I cropped this photo into the 4:5 aspect ratio and lamented the fact that my camera does not default to this shape, especially for vertical compositions. My rant is over!
This image is one of my first tries with my neutral density filters, in this case a 10-stop by Singh Ray with a 30 second exposure. Third beach is my favorite beach in Vancouver. Nestled in Vancouver's iconic Stanley Park, it is possible to forget that you are in a bustling metropolis.
This picture brings back memories but not of a good type. Back in the seventies through the eighties before I could afford a car I use to work in some bad parts of the city and often going home at late hours sometime waiting for a late night train that comes only once a hour in deserted quite stations like this being on a constant guard for, rowdy drunks gang bangers and crazies back when there were no electronic signs to tell you when the next train was coming and then you would the hear the raucous screams of a group belligerent trouble makers entering the station and having to decide what to do next. Not fun times.

It's Casio time again :) This is the third time I've photographed this particular watch from Casio's Vintage line for an MM theme. I couldn't shoot the bracelet this time because I'd already done so before, but I always wanted to get extra close to the shiny logo on the watch's face, and now, with the Laowa lens, this was easier (well, sort of) than ever before. The final image is a single shot processed in DXO PL6, Color Efex, and Luminar Neo.
The lettering (0,65 cm / 0,25 inches wide) was printed, or rather embossed, with a silvery, super shiny "ink" so it almost looks like liquid metal (mercury comes to mind). I've always been fascinated by what happens to lettering when photographed with a very shallow depth of field, so this lent itself as one possible choice for our "Bokeh" theme. I also photographed the "Knot of Fate" pendant and necklace/chain (the bokeh classic) which also was part of last week's theme, and an "S-Biner" carabiner hook that had fallen out of my camera's accessory pouch when I changed my cam's battery (speaking about photographing random things for a theme), so, in the end, it was a little difficult to choose – which is why I simply delegated the choice ;)
HMM, Everyone!
Are you sitting comfortably?
The first time I stumbled across this scene while out walking I only had my telephoto and macro lenses, neither of which were suitable and although calm the light wasn't great. I did think at the time it is a scene with potential and I should come back better equipped
The second time was bright and sunny but windy too so no reflections.
Then last night while checking the forecast (wondering when I could cut the lawn) I became distracted by sunrise and sunset times and directions and realised this scene might be OK for a sunrise shoot on Monday morning.
Bearing in mind I had a full day's work ahead it was a struggle to get out of bed at 04:30 but I am rather glad I made the effort. I was home, had breakfast and switched the work computer on by 07:30!
Those of you with experience of the Highlands will know that we pay the price fo calm conditions during the summer months and that price is the pesky midge. I had a double dose of repellent spray plus a midge net and I needed it!
I took a picture of lovely Emma and Cris taking a picture. Now that i see they've both uploaded theirs, i thought it 'd be fun to join in with a third perspective while trying out a few new things.

For the third time that week, AMTK 108 is leading a requalification run for the Adirondack, which has still not resumed service after covid disruptions (news articles are mentioning a resumption of service in the spring). Here it is backing up towards Central Station, with the right of way for the REM light rail line above at left.
Sorry I've been out of action for so long, but getting mobile and better has been at the foremost. Plus my poor brain has become addled from not being able to get out and about. Or not unless I'm taken somewhere and then I may not have got my camera too. :(
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites.
