This VIS image shows part of Hephaestus Fossae. Hephaestus Fossae is a complex channel system in Utopia Planitia near Elysium Mons. It has been proposed that the channel formed by the release of melted subsurface ice during an impact event. Additionally, the nearby Elysium volcanic center created subsurface heating that may have played a part in creating both Hephaestus Fossae and Hebrus Valles to the north. Hephaestus Fossae is 633km long (393 miles).

This is a picture showing a part of my 2nd system setup, still missing the TA-F707 ESN integrated amplifier.
The picture was made summer 2008. The two components below are the MDP-740D ES class multi disc player capable to play as well the good old laserdiscs as the normal CDs or VideoCDs. A very impressive player.
Below you can see the SLV-825 S, Sonys high end VHS video recorder made escpecially to integrate it in ES systems. Both are very hard to find in mint condition and were very expensive units at the beginning of the 90s. Only a few were sold of them here in Germany.

Taken around 1990 with a Vivitar PS:20 using Ektachrome 100 slide film. Scanned on a Canon MP990 using auto scan (1200 dpi). No edits other than flipping. The scan software is silly. It does not have you place the emulsion side toward the glass. It also crashes a lot in manual mode.

Natural art in bark. Kinda' like a rendering of a central Sun with planets all around. (What would the ancient alien theorists say!)
Hiking back down from the top of Hurricane Mountain. The descent was very refreshing. It was much cooler in the afternoon and of course going downhill made for a much easier trek.
The hike is a 7-mile (11.25 km) round trip, with a 2000 foot (610 meter) ascent.

Celestron seems to be closing out their Explorascope line of small starter telescopes. Explorascope 80s can be had on Amazon for $35, and I had a gift card so I got one. The images don't really compare to those I get with the Astroscan or the XT6, but that's to be expected--it's an 80mm scope going up against 105mm and 150mm scopes. For what it is, it's a decent little instrument.
Taken by afocal projection with a Celestron Explorascope 80, a 32mm Sirius Plossl eyepiece, and a Nikon Coolpix 4500.

The one thing that made me really proud on this weekend trip to Chicago: learning to use their train system. I took a taxi out to the suburbs one morning and when I wanted to go back downtown, I realized I was right by a train station. Why not, I thought. The system is very similar to the BART here in the Bay area, so the lines were quick to decipher. We were also pretty stoked that it saved us a ton of money on cab fares.
