U.S. Senator Michael Bennet speaks on a panel on the federal focus on water in the west at the Water in the West Symposium hosted by the Colorado State University System at the McNichols Civic Center in Denver, April 27, 2018.

This series imagines anxiety as an overreaction made visible. A fear so magnified it feels fatal. Drawing on the cinematic language of Alien, the piece transforms internal panic into a visual narrative of survival. The creature becomes the mind’s invention: danger expanded to survival scale, where the ordinary suddenly turns catastrophic. Through this metaphor, the work examines how the body responds to imagined extinction with real terror and how, in a fleeting moment of clarity, the survivor reclaims control from a threat that was never truly there… and yet is.

Titan Missile Museum

Titan II ICBM Site 571-7

The first inertial guidance system for the Titan II was built by AC Spark Plug, and included an inertial measurement unit based on designs from Draper Labs at MIT, and the ASC-15 computer designed and built by IBM in Owego, NY. The first Titan II missile carrying this system was launched 16 March 1962. Acquiring spares for this system became difficult, and the Air Force decided to replace it with a new system. The AC Spark Plug system, including the ASC-15, was replaced by the Delco Electronics Universal Space Guidance System (USGS) on operational Titan II missiles starting in January 1978. The guidance computer in the USGS was the Magic 352, made by Delco.

--------------

The INERTIAL MEASUREMENT UNIT or IMU, operational 1963-1979: was a part of the onboard missile guidance system. The IMU contained three gyros and accelerometers mounted on a stable platform to provide missile movement information to the guidance computer. It was located near the top of the missile in Stage II between the propellant tanks. A set of three surface-located reference points provided earth surface location information when the missile was in the silo. This information was sent down a transmission tube by a light beam to the Azimuth Alignment Set (AAS), for calibration and alignment of the Autocollimator. The Autocollimator projected a light beam to the IMU which detected any movement of the stable platform on board the missile, and transmitted this information to the Missile Guidance Alignment Checkout Group (MGACG) in the launch control center. The MGACG then transmitted alignment signals to the IMU to correct for the movement of the stable platform. This process of verifying the missile's exact location ensured that, at liftoff, the guidance system began the flight profile from an exact geographic position, assuring that the missile would be able to deliver the warhead to the designated target coordinates.

SALT LAKE CITY — L3 Communication Systems-West presented an in-kind donation to the Utah Guard Sub-for-Santa program Dec. 6 at the Salt Lake Armory.

According to Capt. Noé Vázquez, director of the Sub-for-Santa program, donations from private citizens and organizations like this will ensure a more meaningful Christmas for military families in Utah who have indicated a need for support this year. As of Dec. 5, the Utah Guard Family Support Services office projects helping about 300 children during the holiday.

The Utah Guard Sub-for-Santa program was originated in 2003 after many community members realized the sacrifices that our Utah servicemembers were performing. The intent of the community members was to give back to military families, with deployed members and who were in need. Last year, the Sub-for-Santa program assisted nearly 400 children in need. While this program specifically assists those dependents of our Utah military who might go without during a holiday season, the program does accept general gifts for the parents or family gifts.

Sub for Santa is dedicated to helping people who cannot help themselves. An application process verifies that the donations go to the families who need it most. Applicants are also given the tools and resources with learning opportunities to help them better manage their money, time, and talents from a Family Assistance Center.

Those wishing to make a donation to the Sub-for-Santa program can make payments online at the following link: utngtrust.org/charitable_trust_1_1/subForSanta.php.
