Lots of Road Switcher made their way in front of my lens the other week.
Left is 294 670-5 in Rastatt, 15.02.2022.
Middle is 98 80 0650 153-6 D-VL in Ettlingen West, 16.02.2022.
Right is 98 80 1002 042-2 D-ALS in Ettlingen West, 16.02.2022.
What is remarkable is that the latter two locomotives are not just in their builders liveries, they are registered to work for them. D-VL is Vossloh Germany, whereas D-ALS is Alstom Germany. They were passing in short succession past me, but due to their different destinations I suspect they were both leased by third party Train Operating Companies.

Main power for the Dinkum Thinkum... just in case he gets out of hand. If there is one thing I learned from STNG, it is that you should always have a physical switch to shut it off.

The hoppers in the train came from the FP&E's East Yard and are loaded with coke from the Diamond's Coke Plant; they are bound for the West Yard, where they'll be mixed in with hoppers of limestone and spotted at the Diamond's Lime Kilns.

A railroad signal maintainer performs adjustments on a track switch during a routine inspection. A model 5H switch machine is used for this installation. The maintenance involves, among other things, a confirmation that the switch points and other components move within a relatively narrow tolerance. Too little pressure on the points, or misalignment of components by a fraction of an inch can result in a derailment.
The model 5H had previously been produced by General Railway Signal, but that company has since been acquired by Alstom Signals. The full operating and maintenance manual can be found here:
