This was taken this morning at the Bear Lake West golf course. Me and E went out early so that we could get back early enough to get to Raspberry Days.

Our old garden seat surrendering to nature. I was playing around with ETTR and histograms to get the widest dynamic range possible. Man, there is a lot to learn about getting the shot you want.

many of the animals at the shelter are there because of owner surrender...sometimes they grow tired of the animal, sometimes it is due to circumstances such as losing a job or relocating and can't afford good care of the animal or can't find a place that allows pets...and then there are times when a loving owner has become ill...too ill and can't care for the animal...as is the case here.... a healthcare worker brings the pup in surrender for the owner.

This pup was quickly re-homed.

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the Irish Political Figures Photographic Collection. Our boss has decided to make the collection available for use on Flickr. Grasping the opportunity with both hands, our first selection is perhaps the most iconic image from the collection. We see Pádraic Pearse surrendering to General William Henry Muir Lowe and his son John, on Moore Lane, Dublin. Partially visible to Pearse's right is nurse Elizabeth O'Farrell.

As today's contributors have noted, this image is described as "one of the most famous and widely reproduced Irish historical images". It was likely taken on Parnell Street (between Moore Street and Moore Lane), at approximately 2:30pm on 29 April 1916, evidently by an amateur photographer who was a British Army officer at the scene. At least a handful of slightly altered versions exist - some seemingly attempting to account for the boots of Nurse Farrell, who was half hidden (or perhaps hiding?) behind Pearse. While history has focused more on the men pictured (Lowe and Pearse especially), in more recent years some recognition has been afforded to Elizabeth O'Farrell and her contributions before, during and after the Rising....

We all need redemption.

“I Stand Where the Silence Ends”

I stand alone where the world forgets to breathe.

A horizon emptied of noise, of time, of mercy.

The salt beneath my feet whispers of lifetimes

I never got to live.

Above me, the moon,

not gentle, not maternal,

but colossal, cold, a witness.

They saw it all, didn’t they ?

The ache lodged in my ribs,

the nights I begged quietly,

the mornings I wore my own pain like perfume.

My arms are open, not in surrender,

but because I don’t know where else to put them.

When everything you touch turns to frost,

you start to wonder

if maybe your body was made of winter all along.

The world paints me distant,

but they don’t see how close I am to shattering.

They call this solitude, pride,

I call it survival.

And even here,

where nothing grows,

where the sea forgot its voice,

I may rise.

Not as hope.

Not as defiance.

But as the quiet fact of someone

who is still here,

despite it all.

Trudging through the endless Washington mud and fallen branches was totally worth the scratches and extra laundry today.

Hours to myself, getting lost, clearing my head and making decisions about life...I surrender to the choices of others, to the weight of the shoes that keep me attached to the earth, and the forces of nature.

I accept that the scenes I write and direct in my head do not play out on the same stage in reality, especially when they include other people.

And I forgive myself for wanting things out of my reach.

Gratitude to Evergreen State College.
