Chadwick Hampton, an orthopedic surgeon with the 212th Combat Support Hospital (CSH), assists Dr. Nguiabanda Leandre, a civilian surgeon with the Hopital D’Instrruction Des Armees in Libreville, Gabon, as he performs surgery during a medical readiness training exercise, known as MEDRETE 16-4. The exercise, held from May 22 to June 10, is a combined effort between the Gabonese government, U.S. Army Africa, the 212th CSH and the 3rd Medical Command (Deployment Support) from the U.S. Army Reserve. The exercise serves as an opportunity for U.S. and Gabonese forces to hone and strengthen their life saving skills as well as reinforce the partnership between both countries. Fidel Castro is dead at the age of 90. The brutal communist dictator established a repressive police state in Cuba, reneging on his promise of free elections for a democratic nation. He executed thousands of Cubans who opposed his totalitarian regime and imprisoned tens of thousands, beating and torturing many of them. He divided tens of thousands of families, destroyed the economy and the culture and established a communist regime, becoming a satellite of the Soviet Union. He put the world on the brink of nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
During almost six decades, millions of Cubans have fled the communist island in search of freedom and prosperity because all freedoms were suspended by the tyrant who would lecture the nation via radio and TV saying: “Dentro de la revolución todo, contra la revolución nada.” (With the revolution, everything, against the revolution, nothing.) He made sure all his opponents were silenced by incarceration and often by torture and death.
Fidel Castro and his communist regime exported and supported terrorism, guerrilla warfare, as well as drug trafficking throughout Latin America and the world.
I'm a living witness that his legacy is one of repression, family separation, suffering, death, and destruction of a once prosperous nation.
Free Cubans all over the world are celebrating the death of a monster who enslaved an entire nation and made the Island of Cuba his private plantation. Donald Trump's statements about the legacy of Fidel Castro are spot on and historically accurate. I should know, I lived under that repressive regime for more than ten years and experienced firsthand the havoc this brutal dictator has reeked during his more than five decades in power, turning Cuba into a maximum security prison. Trump said, and I agree:
"Fidel Castro's legacy is one of firing squads, theft, unimaginable suffering, poverty and the denial of fundamental human rights. While Cuba remains a totalitarian island, it is my hope that today marks a move away from the horrors endured for too long, and toward a future in which the wonderful Cuban people finally live in the freedom they so richly deserve."
The President-elect added, "Though the tragedies, deaths and pain caused by Fidel Castro cannot be erased, our administration will do all it can to ensure the Cuban people can finally begin their journey toward prosperity and liberty." May our people be free at last!
Supported hand held shot just before dawn. EASTMAN Kodak Fine Grain Release Positive Film 5302 expired vintage from 1961. Shot at night and predawn at ISO 6. Shot with Hanimex / Praktica Super TL 35mm with Super Lentar 28mm f/3, and Soviet KMZ MIR-1 37mm f2.8 (adapted) M42, universal thread mount lenses. This was an experiment to test long exposures in limited natural light with this film. Interesting results. Most were handheld and supported. Stand developed in Glycin - carbonate developer for 2 1/2 hours, water stop, Ilford Hypam 1:4 fix. Scanned in B&W.

The Dennis Dart is a rear-engined single-decker midibus chassis that was introduced by Dennis of Guildford, England, in 1989, replacing the Dennis Domino. Initially built as a high-floor design
In 1996, Dennis launched a low-floor version of the Dart known as the Dart SLF, with the letters SLF standing for Super Low Floor in reference to the new low-floor design. It was 2.4 m (7 ft 10 in) wide and initially offered in lengths of 10 m (33 ft) and 10.6 m (35 ft), with air suspension introduced in place of the taper leaf used in the original design. . It was also offered with a wide variety of bodies, namely the East Lancs Spryte, UVG Urbanstar (later renamed as the Caetano Compass)

This is a very unusual one, bodied by East Lancs Spryte as a Fire and Rescue Command Support vehicle, it was supplied new to Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Services and was based at Malvern Fire Station.

This is a new design for Grizzly Mountain Arts! Dave has crafted the beautiful 1 7/8 inch acorn whorl of this support spindle from poplar. Pyrography, burn etching, was used to create the details on the acorn's cap. The 11 1/2 inch long shaft was created from walnut and the weight of this spindle in 51 grams (1.8 ounces).

We were stuck inside Nigg Energy Park in Scotland for a few days while I was at work on the ship. Luckily I managed to go for a couple of walks with the camera in hand, which only did me good. I sort of like this one. Done with one of the Nikon FM2 cameras on Ilford PAN400.

This is one of the supports for the Interurban Bridge near Waterville, Ohio. Different views of the bridge are here.
This photograph highlights the deterioration of the bridge and why it is considered a hazard. Entire concrete sections have broken off and exposed steel reinforcing rods and the dirt that fills much of the bridge, which provides a medium for trees to grow on the bridge. On the left a large block of concrete dangles over the river—where people kayak—suspended by steel reinforcing rods.
The bridge spans the Maumee River and was built in 1907-1908 for an electric trolley line between Toledo and Lima, Ohio. The bridge has a “Roman Aqueduct” design and was constructed of steel reinforced concrete filled with dirt. With a length of 1,200 feet (372m), when it was built some people considered it the longest reinforced concrete bridge in the world.
Use of the bridge for electric trolley service ceased in 1937 due to competition from automobiles and due to the Great Depression. In the 1940s the bridge was used temporarily for automobiles after a nearby highway bridge collapsed.
The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The State of Ohio, which owns the bridge, has said that it plans to demolish the bridge. While there is some interest in maintaining at least a portion of the bridge, it is not clear if that will be feasible.
The bridge was built by the National Bridge Company of Indianapolis and the Chief Engineer was J. M. Walker. It was used by the Lima-Toledo Traction Company and Ohio Electric. The bridge is referred to by multiple names, including the Interurban Bridge, the Lima and Toledo Traction Company Bridge, the Ohio Electric Railroad Bridge, and the Old Electric Bridge.
