Friday 13 December 2019, saw the latest police community support officers (PCSOs) complete their training in preparation for beginning duty on the streets of Greater Manchester.
The occasion was marked by a passing-out parade at the Force’s Sedgley Park Centre.
The work of PCSOs complements and supports their regular police officer colleagues. They provide a highly visible and accessible uniformed presence in the heart of local communities, which is intended to improve the quality of life and offer reassurance to the general public.

This artistic provocation seeks to estimate the orders of magnitude of critical ecosystem services fundamental to all planetary life processes. It is common to use economic metaphors, which entail specific understandings of value, to describe our relationships with society, the world, and the biosphere. Today’s prevailing economic conventions are unable to recognize the intrinsic value of the ecosystems on which all life depends. In cultures overdetermined by concepts from economics, we are left without adequate discursive instruments to socially or politically address the importance of ecosystem contribution to life on Earth. This experiment consists of 1 square meter of wheat, cultivated in a closed environment. Critical inputs such as water, light, heat, and nutrients are measured, monitored, and displayed for the public. This procedure makes palpable the immense scale of ecosystem contributions and provides a speculative reference for a reckoning of the undervalued and over exploited “work of the biosphere.”
Philipp Gartlehner of the Ars Electronica Center planted barley with the heilp of the Life Support system and after three months, the harvest was ready to be brought in. The cost for growing one square meter of barley indoors accounted for the massive amount of 430 Euro. Another reason why we really have to take care for our ecosystem.

My initial reaction to these two Scottish fellas was to think how refreshing it was to have some music that was plain & simple. 2 acoustic guitars, 2 voices: nothing less, nothing more. No trying to be cool, no trying to be the next big thing. Just plain & simple. The downside of this however was that it got a bit boring. Actually I quite like 'cool' or 'quirky' or whatever else. Plus it seemed a shame that their lovely Scottish accents seemed to disappear when they were singing.
An almost colorless park this morning. The leaves were swept away, covering the concrete footing that I'm assuming will support a new street lamp, the orange traffic cone marking that footing disappeared and our friend the garbage can is nowhere to be found.
The Disney Store's Maleficent doll is now fully deboxed. She is posed standing, supported by a Kaiser stand. She photographed in natural light from all angles.
Review of Maleficent Disney Film Collection Doll
The Maleficent doll has realistic features, so looks like a real person rather than an animated character or a generic doll. She resemblances the character as portrayed by Angelina Jolie, but I think her features are too heavy to make it a good likeness. Her head also seems oversized. She has very pale tan skin that is almost pasty. Her expression is also a little dull and listless. Her lips are very full, I think too full, and forms a slight pout. Her lower lip has a series of four silver dots, that grow smaller towards the right (her left). Her eyes are narrow, and colored green and yellow. She has dark eyeliner around her eyes, short thin eyelashes above and below her eyes, and arched black eyebrows. She has prominent cheekbones, but not as pronounced as in the movie. Overall, she doesn't exude power, or evil or beauty, as she should. She has headgear of faux black leather, that entirely covers her head, forms a widow's peak over her forehead, and has long double curving horns on top, that are angled towards the back. It does not appear to be removable, but is a solid molded piece that is glued to her head. She has no hair.
She has the same body construction as that of the 2012 Disney Classic Princess 12'' dolls, and is same as the Aurora doll in this series. She is 11 1/2'' tall to the top of her head, standing in her high heeled boots, and 13'' to the top of her horns. She has 13 points of articulation, with ball jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips and ankes, and hinge jointed knees. The legs are made of hard plastic, but the knee joints are not stiff enough to prevent her legs from being slightly bowed. Also because of her hip construction, her legs splay out when they are bent at the hips for her to sit down.
She has a full length gown that is textured and is dull black in color. There are dress details and double layered collar out of faux leather. The front of the gown is about a half inch off the ground. Her gown is a a couple of inches longer in the back than the front, forming a short rounded train, with black satin trim. When extended, it looks like the tail of a bird. Her sleeves are over-sized and attached to the sides of her dress almost to the hemline. With her arms extended out towards the sides the sleeves look like bat wings. There is a tear drop shaped black jewel at the neckline. The gown fits her very well, and drapes nicely. She is wearing a wide black faux leather choker that is removable. On her arms are black knit fingerless gloves that go up to her elbows. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I tug on the gloves, I can't get her thumbs to show, and her other four fingers are mostly hidden. I did discover that she is wearing a painted black ring on the index finger of her right hand.
She is wearing knee high black boots that are apparently the same as those made for the Disney Film Collection Wicked Witch of the West Doll, from Oz the Great and Powerful, in 2013.
The only accessory is a her magic staff. The staff is dark brown plastic stick 9 inches long that is fairly stiff and straight. It is made to look like two thin branches twisted together. At the end is an oval shaped yellow and green magic crystal, that matches the colors of Maleficent's eyes. It does not have any handle to make it easier for the doll to hold it in her hand. I have deboxed it, but haven't had time to figure out how the attach it to her hand, so I left it out of my photographs so far.
Overall, I like this doll, and I think she is worth the $35 price tag, but I don't love her. By far the best feature of the doll is her gown, with the train resembling a bird's tail and sleeves mimicking a bat's wings. What is most disappointing about the doll is that she doesn't look all that much like Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, and she doesn't have a commanding presence. It is also disappointing that she has the problematic legs of the 2012 Classic Princess dolls.
Purchase Details
I just received my online order (on Tuesday, May 13, 2014) from the Disney Store, of the newly released Disney Maleficent Movie Dolls. The dolls are the Maleficent and Aurora 12'' dolls from the Disney Film Collection. I ordered them last Tuesday, when the dolls were released online, so it took exactly one week to arrive. Both dolls look very good, but I'm liking Aurora more at this point, mainly because I like her face more than Maleficent's. I think the Dark Beauty Maleficent doll by Jakks Pacific is a better likeness of Angelina Jolie as Maleficent. I will post photos of both dolls boxed, then during deboxing, and finally fully deboxed. I will also show them side by side with other comparable dolls, especially the Jakks versions.

PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - The 641st Regional Support Group, an Army Reserve logistics and transportation brigade based in St. Petersburg, Fla., conducted a Best Warrior Competition and Officer Challenge Jan. 24 at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla.
Both competitions took place during the final full day of Operation Responsive Sentinel, a sustainment training and disaster relief field exercise comprising approximately 20 units and 900 Soldiers. Resolve Sentinel's operational and tactical missions at Port Canaveral, Patrick AFB and the Air Force's Malabar Transmitter Annex offered numerous opportunities for the troops to apply their military and civilian skills to plan, organize and execute objectives on land and sea.
The Best Warrior Competition featured six enlisted Soldiers representing several companies and battalions attached to the 641st RSG. The half-dozen men and women faced off in a various warrior-oriented tasks ranging from a written exam and sergeants major interview board to a ruck march and a rifle and pistol qualification round.
The top two competitors will represent the 641st RSG in the 143d Sustainment Command
(Expeditionary)'s Best Warrior Competition planned for March 9-13 at Camp Blanding, Fla.
While specialists and sergeants shot, sang, ran and marched their way to the finish line, scores of junior officers formed at Patrick AFB's Education and Training Center to test their strength, dexterity, memory and morale in the 641st RSG's officer challenge. Teams of five officers competed at six unique
stations spread along a six-mile route. The challenge began with map reading and rank recognition events, continued with casualty evacuation scenario and a ethical dilemma, and concluded with a physical challenge and rifle marksmanship.

Sorry about my recent inactivity and the fact that the photo is a bit rushed, I've got exams coming up and I'm really busy. Not long until the summer holidays though! That means the multi-story...
Adding shelves in my office closet. With so much space, it'd be a shame not to use that for storage!

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany. (May 6, 2017) – Medics from the Grafenwoehr Health Clinic treat injured Soldiers during clinic’s Multinational Trauma Life Support and Emergency Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) training exercise 6 May on Tower Barracks. Clinic Soldiers treating the injured had to overcome a number of difficulties and challenges once the mock casualties had been moved in to the clinic for triage, and encountered situations which were drawn from real-life combat field hospital records and deployed MEDDAC Soldier’s personal accounts.
The exercise was conducted in two phases, the first taking place in Grafenwoehr and built around a scenario wherein mock-injured Soldiers involved in a live-fire training accident in the adjacent Grafenwoehr Training Area (GTA) are rushed to the Grafenwoehr Health Clinic for immediate treatment after an explosive device malfunctions. The mock casualties were then MEDEVAC’ed to the larger German partner medical facilities located 27 miles away in the city of Amberg.

Rally & march in support of Referendum 71, in Seattle.
If passed, Referendum 71 will uphold Washington state's "everything but marriage" domestic partnership law, which was passed by the state Senate in March, passed by the state House in April, and signed into law by Governer Gregoire in May of 2009.
Update, November '09: Referendum 71 was approved by the voters! Thank you, Washington state!
It shouldn't even be on the ballot. Why is it OK to put people's civil rights up for a vote? But it is on the ballot, so if you live in Washington state, please vote to approve it.
