Rally & march in support of Referendum 71, in Seattle.
If passed, Referendum 71 will uphold Washington state's "everything but marriage" domestic partnership law, which was passed by the state Senate in March, passed by the state House in April, and signed into law by Governer Gregoire in May of 2009.
Update, November '09: Referendum 71 was approved by the voters! Thank you, Washington state!
It shouldn't even be on the ballot. Why is it OK to put people's civil rights up for a vote? But it is on the ballot, so if you live in Washington state, please vote to approve it.
Update, November '09: Referendum 71 was approved by the voters! Thank you, Washington state!

November 12, 2019 - Syracuse, NY - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the completion of the state supported 50-mile unmanned traffic management drone corridor, which runs from Central New York to the Mohawk Valley. The first-in-the-nation corridor is the most advanced drone testing corridor in the nation. With the needed infrastructure now in place, companies will be able to test both unmanned aerial systems platforms and UTM technologies in real world settings, generating data that will inform the industry and regulators and taking us one step closer towards the routine commercial use of drones. The completion of the corridor advances the regions' collective strategy to accelerate and support emerging uses of UAS in key industries, including agriculture and forest management, transportation and logistics, media and film development, utilities and infrastructure and public safety. At the Syracuse International Airport, the Governor today also announced that the home of the innovative GENIUS NY UAS competition, the Tech Garden in Downtown Syracuse, will undergo a major expansion project to include the addition of two floors to the existing facility. The increased visibility and street-scape will serve as the anchor of the Syracuse's City Center Innovation Hub, a core component of the Syracuse Surge strategy, and will serve as the gateway to the "Innovation Alley" on Warren Street in Syracuse. Empire State Development is assisting the expansion project with up to $12.5 million made available through the regionally designed CNY Rising Upstate Revitalization Initiative plan. Canada has been very kind to me and my family as immigrants. Not to say I haven't faced the odd racial slurs or minor discrimination (at the same time, I probably have made the same mistakes myself towards others), all in all Canada welcomes immigrants with open arms, and gives immigrants more or less equal opportunities to an excellent education, job prospects and a very decent publicly-funded health care; and most of all, Canada is peaceful and overall a secure place to live.
When the Wuhan/ Covid-19 virus outbreak became a global pandemic at the start of 2020, tens of millions of people lost their jobs practically overnight around the world. I'm extremely fortunate that my industry (pension) is an essential service and my employer has been very supportive, generous and responsive in helping us to work from home.
When it became clear that my much-anticipated Irish vacation (in May 2020) was to be cancelled, I made a personal pledge that if I get the refunds for my cancelled flight to Dublin and the packaged tour (totalling CAD $1,800/ USD $1,325/ EUR 1,175/ GBP 1,050), I would donate the entire amount (and then some) to help those less fortunate than me.
So here I've made the following donations in relation to the global pandemic:
CAD $1,000 to United Way of Greater Toronto Area
CAD $600 to the Canadian Red Cross Society
EUR 450 to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Ireland

Col. Michel M. Russell, Sr. assumed command of 401st Army Field Support Brigade from outgoing commander, Col. Richard B. O’Connor, II in a ceremony held at brigade headquarters July 17.
The time-honored change of command ceremony is somewhat of a rarity for a unit deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Today’s Army Force Generation model has units rotating in and out of the battle space for a set period of time with the commander usually remaining in command throughout the deployment.
The 401st AFSB is unique in that it is headquartered in Afghanistan with commanders and personnel joining and leaving the unit as their individual assignments dictate.
The 401st AFSB’s mission is to serve as the single entry point for integration and synchronization for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology between the tactical level and the Materiel Enterprise while enhancing unit readiness and improving combat capability; and provide field and sustainment level logistics for both U.S. and Coalition forces in Afghanistan in accordance with Joint Sustainment Command – Afghanistan and U.S. Forces – Afghanistan priorities and is accomplished by more than 41,000 Soldiers, Department of Army civilians and contractors at locations across the Afghanistan area of operations.
