A little explaination for my not italian speaking friends... ;-))))

The statue represents Giotto, the famous Florence painter; in italian you can read "G8" as "GI-OTTO" (and not "g-eight" or worst "Greater Eight"!!!!).

Then, having only my 55-200 that evening, and being the Vicchio place small, I could shoot only the higher parts of the statue and the church; the Summit, in effect... :-)))))))))

The colours are real, not photoshopped. There was a feast in the town and various coloured spots lightened the statues and the buildings.

Uhm....finish to talk, Firenzesca?

Finish.

End of the Summit.

Do you know that feeling when you finally see the summit cross before you just in time to see the sun setting behind the mountain peaks across the valley?

A quick 45 minute climb sees me at the summit of Carn Aosda already. It may look very sunny but it's bitter with a cold northerly blowing pretty strong. In the background we see our 2nd destination of the day, The Cairnwell, while over to the left is Creag Leacach, a Munro I climbed last year.

This trip sees me bagging 2 more Munro's. Carn Aosda, my 22nd Munro, stands at 917 meters (3008 feet), while The Cairnwell, my 23rd Munro, stands at 933 meters (3061 feet). They do both stand at the heart of the Glenshee Ski Development, so may be not a pretty or remote as some other Munro's.

Long shadows still linger around Summit as a Union Pacific Portland (Albina Yard) sneaks down the Palmdale Cutoff in the distance, as BNSF 8070 and company dig into the final three curves on the West Slope of Cajon. The train has almost finished it's early morning assault on Cajon Pass, once the train passes through the crossovers at Summit the train will begin to pick up speed before the actual apex of the hill, and descend into the Mojave Desert.

With the exception of this I don't usually take pictures with people, but I thought I'd make the exception for a silhouette!

My brother at the top of a hill in Iceland, quite glad he's got his hood up as it definitely adds to the image! I cropped it to give a slight panoramic feel, the block of white above that was the sun didn't really add too much...

ONE MORE 2014 FAVORITE: SUMMIT SUNRISE

The New Year is just about here! Here's to a 2015 full of fun, creativity, and adventure.

PS: The photo is of my great friend, and fantastic photographer Matt Kloskowski atop Steens Mountain at dawn last fall. It was a cold, windy and beautiful morning up there.

Gros Morne Mountain has its summit obscured in a bit of fog. It's the second highest mountain in Newfoundland at 807 m (2,648 ft). It's also the namesake of Gross Morne National Park which encompasses 1,805 sq km (697 sq mi).

Looking South West from the summit of Island Peak. The prominent peak near the middle of the image is Ama Dablam.

I wrote a blog about my experience on the mountain here!

Summit Lake (12,830 feet) is an excellent example of a high alpine lake. It lies in a cirque formed by Mount Evans and Mount Spalding with rocky ridges and cliffs rising from the lake to the summits over 1,000 feet above. It is the most accessible lake above timberline as the Summit Lake parking area is just a few hundred feet from the lake. The area to the east of the lake is Summit Lake Flats and is the only known area of permafrost located in the United States outside of Alaska.

Another shot from the Summit of Silver Star Mountain during that storm we had earlier this year....... I am looking forward to some serious extreme weather this year and I hope it comes soon!!!

We only got a few peeks at the summit of Rainier on this trip but the light and shadow was spectacular anyway. This was one of the times the clouds parted.

The foundations of a former palace or monastery cover much of the summit plateau at Sigiriya Lion Rock. The views of central Sri Lanka are excellent.

another one for ‪#‎COP21‬ and global warming . at first it was just a doodling on a small square of canson paper and I've discovered I can improve this square in a cartoon pinguin...

canson paper and acrylic paint 10cm squares. final composition is about 35cm.

using a kite base and wetfold of course !

BNSF and UP double stack trains meet at Cajon Summit, CA adding quite a bit of color to this late afternoon scene. In a few moments the sun would dip into a thick haze caused by the nearby Sheep Fire.
