Georgina Malanga draws a crowd at Awach Market where she sells Tough Stuff solar packs. Christian Aid loaned ADS funds to purchase solar packs containing a panel, light, and battery and mobile phone chargers. ADS then sells these to entrepreneurs like Georgina identified from amongst the volunteers who work with them on health projects and they are able to sell these making a profit of around 300 shillings. This small profit allows them to provide for their families’ basic needs and so keep volunteering. As a widow, Georgina finds it hard to provide for her two children and the niece she cares for while volunteering with a project providing support for children affected by HIV. ‘It is better than handouts - when they are finished you are left with nothing again’ says Georgina. ‘The way they have helped us with Tough stuff, they are going to leave me rich if I use the capacity they have put in me.’
We bought ingredients from our local Walmart to make Stuffed peppers for dinner tonight.One our favorite comfort foods.And as usual, we had leftovers!
