Captured just a couple of months ago, this was part of the shoot I did for a make up artist.

I had always wanted to take such a photo with a "classy woman" look, and managed to do so this time around. Safe to say that Sonia (Insta: @sonia_sandhu_mua), the make up artist, wasn't too impressed with a black and white shot of the model (Ranu - insta: @1ranu1), especially when she wanted to highlight the make up.

Regardless, I am in LOVE with the end result of this.

The chubby child in the studio is me - nearly 1 year old.

I know because my mum told me.

I also know because those bits of hair at the front still curl up and annoy me.

It's obvious my mum 'dressed' my hair especially for the school photographer.

And in the middle pic I am wearing a home-made jumper and pinafore.

I always thought of myself as quiet and rather serious (still do I guess).

So I wonder how the photographer got me to smile.

And I find, from a friend who has grandchildren, that the school photographer has not been put out of business by the digital age.

I love stage and concert photography. In large part because it tends to present a series of dramatic moments which are there to be captured. However, increasingly in recent years, it has also allowed me to meet many of the artists I've been photographing on stage.

My model here is Rayma, one of the beautiful Cuban dancers who was part of the show Hemingway's Havana which was part of The World Festival, during this year's Edinburgh Fringe.

I only met Rayma near the end of this year's Fringe and she asked if I could take some studio shots of her. Hmmm, let's review...beautiful dancer...studio portraits...not the most difficult decision I've had to make. :-)

There were significant time constraints, since Rayma was returning to Cuba a couple of days later. However, we managed to arrange a fairly brief studio session, which was fun, as this shot (and the one featured in the link below) hopefully indicates:
