Hartz IV (officially called Arbeitslosengeld II until 2023) was Germany’s basic unemployment benefit for long‑term unemployed people. It provided a low fixed monthly payment plus housing costs for people who had no job or very little income. The system was known for strict rules and sanctions if recipients did not actively look for work.
In 2023, Hartz IV was replaced by the Bürgergeld, but the term “Hartz IV” is still widely used and strongly associated with poverty, unemployment, and social stigma in Germany.
If a political campaign poster promising a “strong economy” simply says “Hartz 4,” it is likely meant satirically or critically. The message could imply:
• The promised “strong economy” would actually lead to unemployment and poverty.
• The party’s economic policies might increase the number of people needing welfare.
• Or it mocks the idea that the only result of their policy would be more people dependent on state support.
So in satire, “Hartz 4” can symbolize economic failure, social inequality, or a lack of real opportunities.

an April picture, just in case I do decide to do what i did in 2021 and get a gorse picture for each month of the year.
Strong winds bringing big waves to the islands along the Northern Sea also deliver razor clams (aka American jackknive clams) and other mussels that are a great source of nutrition for the small waders that are roaming the beaches this time of the year. It is a bit of work though to get the flesh out of the mussels as you can guess from the picture. The big bird in a picture is a red knot, which is mostly grey in winter plumage. There is only a slight hint of color on its breast. Lots of Turnstones in the background and this time I wished I had been a bit further away from the bird.

it's amazing how much weight these tiny spiderweb threads can sustain... I cropped this quite a bit to get close enough to see the street refracted in the droplets...these were pretty tiny!

These little flowers are still standing tall despite the snow. I guess it is not spring yet and old man winter is showing his fury.

I watched a video yesterday talking about how A.I. is ruining the internet and even kinda hurting the meaning of art. I for one and this is my opinion only, cannot stand A.I. anymore. Every website you visit has a pop up asking you to use their A.I, it's everywhere now! People generating realistic images just sitting at their computer, people creating digital art just by typing in a few words is just not art to me. Yeah OK it might be digital, but even digital art prior to the A.I craze took skill to master, learning how to use the software and what not. It took TIME.
The same thing can be said for photography. It takes TIME and I may never be perfect at photography, who is? There is alway someone better at it. How can someone said their generative photos or digital art have soul?
Maybe my work is soulless as well but atleast I know they are REAL.

On Sunday afternoon we went hiking at San Francisco's Lands End. We ended up at the Sutro Bath ruins, always a good spot for sunset. We had fun playing with the sun, communicating over distance with hand gestures - no mobile phone reception here.
I processed a photographic and a balanced HDR photo from two RAW exposures, merged them, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Templi di Angkor - Tha Prohm
A differenza della maggior parte dei templi di Ankor, Tha Prohm è stato lasciato, fino a pochi anni fa, nelle stesse condizioni in cui fu scoperto. La strana atmosfera creata dalla combinazione degli alberi che spuntano dalle rovine e la giungla circostante ne hanno fatto uno tra i più popolari e visitati templi di Angkor.

Unlike most Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm has been left in much the same condition in which it was found: the photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor's most popular temples with visitors.
