Strix varia taken at maximum zoom and then some. I think the focus is on the leaves but she seems in field too. Owls are almost always backlit because of their huge, light-sensitive eyes.

Father owl, eye injury improving?

Taken at a park in Vancouver, BC, Canada, on May 15 2013. I rounded a corner and found myself face-to-face with this Barred Owl. After about an hour, the bird spotted a squirrel and went from perch to perch trying to catch it, so I managed to photograph it in many different spots and poses.
