Sculpture by Robert Shields.

I met Trish as she was relaxing on this seat in Merrion Square Park, Dublin, Ireland. Her Dreadlocks were really impressive. I asked Trish for her photo and she readily agreed.

Trish said she in from Dublin and lives near the Park. I got Trishs email address and sent her a copy of the photo

We all are baggers, Each in his or hers own way - Mark Twain

My name is Wissal Youssef and I prefer Wissal Sheikh. I'm 27 years old and I'm a journalist in British newspapers.

I love my experience that I'm having in Morocco because it makes me discover a lot of things that I love and write about them. Writing is my only arm who protects me, this is why I'm working like a journalist. I can listen to people stories and write about them, I love to hear their voices and share it with others, precisely woman's voice.

This experience taught me to see beauty in the bad things. The great things are innocences. Innocence in communication, working, writing, life...

This is why I wish that our innocent heart builds an amazing world.

I dream to big up my experience in my work and look for some stories that no one get it before, and became a prototype journalist who beats the hardest of society to prove that women can be something great if she has the tools and liberty to make decisions.

STRANGERS PROJECT:

I always had the power of seeing something different in people. I had the idea of creating this project in 2014 when I realize I’m shooting a lot of portraits for my friends, clients, people on the street… So I transformed this passion into an artistic project where my goal wasn’t take just average pictures of strangers, but make portraits of them that reveals something.

It’s an on-going project which I want to take 100 portraits stories.

I have officially started my new project 100 strangers

:) I've wanted to do this for a while now, but I just couldn't bring myself to ask strangers whether I could take a photo of them.. But here it is:

Me and some friends from the university spent the weekend in a lovely town called Tryavna. We were walking on the street, freezing, when this man opened the door of his shop and asked us to come in. And I am so glad we did.. He said he has been a pilot, but after he had realized this profession can make you a hero, but sometimes a villain too, he decided to quit and he has been making shoes since then. It turned out that visitors of his shop have been some of our presidents, he showed us newspapers to confirm :) The reason was a shoe heowned which was Vasil Levski's (you can read more about this national hero here ). The legend says that Levski was captured and later executed because his shoe got stuck in a fence while trying to escape.

Uh, and last, he said that he is leaving for the United States in a week to open an exhibition about shoes there :)

I approached this man and asked him for permission to take his photo. He was really polite and said yea. He kept talking to me about his job in post production. And i just kept photographing as we spoke. This allowed me to get a natural smile from him, as oppose to asking for one.

Stranger Portrait: Another guy called Chris. Didn't get time to ask to many questions as he was part of a small group who were all putting the world to right.....I'll catch him again sometime.

I met Jacklyne and her friend Una (stranger #36) as they were leaving their office on Spadina Avenue in Toronto. They were both laughing and seemed to be in a great mood. As I predicted they were more than happy to participate in my project and they even asked if they could do some crazy poses together (see photo in comment section).

Jacklyne was born in the Phillipines (Quezon City in Manilla). Her father had moved to Toronto in 1987. Ten years later, in September 1997, her mom and siblings moved to Toronto to be reunited with her father. Jacklyne was 5 and half years old.

Jacklyne attended George Brown College and graduated from the Arts and Science Program. She is 21 years old and works as an office manager for a Green company that deals with high-efficient appliances such as water heaters, furnaces and air-conditioners.

In her spare time Jacklyne enjoys reading and walking. She also loves shopping and funky shoes. Jacklyne loves art and her favourite neighbourhood is Kensingnton Market as well as the Yonge & Wellington Street area, where the 3 elephants are.

After a week with no strangerhunting I was back on the streets trying to find my fifth stranger. I spotted this girl on Karl Johan Street. Her knitted cap and mittens cough my attention and I knew she would be a great stranger. I was happy to see that she had a knitted sweater under her jacket to. She had a real spring theme going on. Perfect for an April strangerportrait.

I asked for her portrait and she was a little reluctant at first, but as soon as I told her about the 100 stranger project she was happy to let me take her picture. I don’t know if she done some modelling in the past, but she was a great model to work whit. I find some strangers hard to photograph as they sometimes put on a nervous smile or are simply feeling awkward in front of a camera. Her pose was great and I’m really glad I got to shoot her portrait. Somehow I forgot to ask her name. I’m really sorry I forgot as I would love to put a name to her face. I post some of the stranger portraits on my facebook whit a link to the 100strangers group. After a couple of minutes an old school body told me she knew her. And I got her name after all:-)

I spent a good couple of hours in the main square of Genova on a late Saturday afternoon.

Chiara was waiting for a friend near the entrance of Palazzo Ducale; I immediateli like the way she dressed and all the details and when I explained the project Chiara agreed to pose. We moved to the other side of De Ferrari and we were finished a few minutes later.

Thank you Chiara, I hope you like the portrait.

I was wandering in a University campus. There are particularly nice building. Very moderns. Despite the fact you'r not allowed to take photos in the area, I was wondering how would look a ambient lit portrait in a corridor where I had try flash portrait before.

Aurélie was waiting for a friend of her and I needed a subject ! She was happy to be photographed by me because she said never having been photographed with a good camera.

It's always a pleasure to be helpful !

As for a reward she told me that she would be pleased to play the model for me.

Thank you Aurélie !

Meet Liv.

A great start to the round 3 of my 100 strangers project albeit completely unexpected - in fact it happened a few weeks back and I am just getting to posting now. Having completed round 2 of my strangers project I decided to take a quick break and set some goals to work on for Round 3. More deliberate use of light and more shadows was definitely one such goal. However old habits die hard - was at a restaurant to photograph lifestyle portraits for realtors and arrived early to set-up. As I finished my preparation noticed Liv reserving a seat - the light and the stranger portrait potential was too difficult to resist and I made a request.

Liv is a hairstylist and was waiting for her friends - so happily agreed to spare a few minutes. She loves hanging out with friends and visiting different restaurants and trying new food. Her favorite quality is her friendly nature and ability to relate and connect with people.

I did a few simple shots taking advantage of the soft light streaming through the glass windows. Then since the restaurant was empty and there were large areas of contrasting light and shadows we experimented with the pictures a little. Liv was a natural with no qualms about posing or sitting on the restaurant floor - that she was completely at ease on camera was a advantage. My guests started arriving so we had to wrap up - but I think it was a good start to my next round.

Thanks much Liv for being a part of my project and helping me commence round 3- I really enjoyed our random session. Wish you all the very best. If you would like a copy of the pictures please drop me a note

For my other pictures on this project: 100 Strangers - Round 2.

For pictures from my prior attempt at 100 Strangers: 100 Strangers - Round 1.

It's been quite a while since I last took a photo for my 100 strangers project so today I ventured into the city determined to find that special face. I spent some time wandering around and did see quite a few potential subjects but the right opportunity to introduce myself didn't occur. I spotted Marjellyn with her shopping bags finishing her lunch. I sat next to her and explained the project and asked if she would be willing to pose for me. She happily agreed and we moved to a quieter area of the square. I took a bit more time with Marjellyn and managed to get quite a few photos that I was pleased with. I selected this one as it shows the interesting tattoo on her shoulder.

Marjellyn was very patient whilst I snapped away and asked her a few questions about herself. Marjellyn is 22 years old and works as a nursing assistant in one of the large hospitals in the city, she was in the city to meet her sister and do some shopping. Thank you Marjellyn for helping me today and I hope you like the photos.

Julie is Flickr Stranger # 95 in my second set of 100 Strangers. Met Julie at the International Cafe in Helen, Georgia located on the Chattahoochee River. She was our server and was extremely good. Specializing in German fare and the waitstaff wear traditional folk dress giving an extra touch of Bavaria flare. Julie referred to her dress as "dirndl"... a type worn especially in Germany's Bavarian and also in Austria and the South Tyrol based on the clothing of Alps country peasants. The different color variations can depend on the origin of the woman wearing the dirndl. Julie was very happy to share this information with us. Besides being an excellent server she is a mom of 3 teenagers... bless her heart!!! She shared that she was going through the trial of a divorce. She has her plate full in more ways than one... prayers and gratitude for you dear Julie!!! So happy that you agreed to be one of my Flickr Strangers. And yes it was a delicious meal with a fantastic view of the Chattahoochee River from our table located riverside. A delightful experience. Shot at Alexanderplatz area, Berlin. I took Leica X Vario with me on Berlin trip and I was not missing my trusted PEN-F. When I was shooting strangers with X Vario I realized one very important feature that is a game changer – it can fire a flash in bright day light! PEN-F coupled flash is limited to sync speed of 1/250 and camera itself has base iso of 200 which does not help in sunshine. I could get external flash with HSS for PEN-F, but it will not be a small package anymore. After not using X Vario for a few month, I can see now where it excels- that 3D look is something that PEN-F just does not do that well. Possibly I could get 25mm F/1.2 lens, but again, it will not be that small package any more. Will I abandon PEN-F – no way, it is smaller and faster than X Vario and who generally cares about 3D look in street photography, but for people shoots X Vario will be a better tool for me.

This is Tonusri Mondol. Met her on Language Day at Central “Shohid Minar” (national monument). People gather around from many parts of the country to remember the sacrifice of lives by Dhaka University students in 1952 on the same day. Salam, Barkot, Jabar and many others were shot dead by then Pakistani army as they opened fire on the procession by students demanding Bengali as a state language.

She was among the organizing committee. As I approached, she agreed and I took the bellow photo first. However, as I saw the image in play back I felt like it would be a better idea to take a more personal up-close shot. Consequently, after 10-15 minutes later I approached her again, changing my lens. It was mid day and l was somewhat worried about unnecessary contrast that might be a side-effect of this direct sunlight. Yet, I decided to give it a try without taking her to somewhere else with better lighting. Here is what I managed to get finally. There were many people around and it was tough to get a clean background like this. So, I decided to fix it using Photoshop.

Thank you Tonusri to be part of my project.

She was the first encounter on the same day. My second encounter, who was another gorgeous beautiful lady hanging around the same place, however, decided not to participate after having a conversation of nearly one minute or so.

Death Valley National Park

Stranger Things Sunday: I’m just catching up from our weekend trip out to Akron, Ohio after a brutal ride home today. I did have the opportunity to shoot the Cuyahoga Valley’s scenic train friday evening, which I’ll get up later on this week. On Thursday afternoon I got a notification that an NS unit was on the point of the regional coming out of Norfolk. It’s fairly uncommon for this to happen, and VERY rare to get an NS unit north of Van Dorn yard in Alexandria these days. While I didn’t have my DSLR with me, and timing didn’t work for me to run home and grab it, my camera phone actually did a reasonably good job in a pinch. So here’s an NS Dash-9 in passenger service pulling an Amtrak train on the CSX RF&P sub from Thursday evening shot with my iPhone. Strange, indeed.

-There is a stranger in town.

-So what? Strangers are not interesting any more.

When I noticed through the viewfinder that he gave me that look, I thought "uh-oh..." After the shot, he smiled... I said "thank you!" and smiled back in relief.
