Stranger on the horse. casual shot in the park at the foot of the New Jerusalem Monastery. cloudy weather, it is snowing
There's a story behind this portrait. I was walking around the city when someone behind me asked if I could take a photo of her. I looked back and there she was! I never speak to strangers (remember my mom's warning!) but I had to say "of course". A second later, she threw her backpack and coat on the ground and started posing!! I mean, fashion shoot posing!!!! :))))) When we were done, I asked how was she planning on getting these photos. She suggested posting them on Twitter. I am not a Twitter person. I countered her offer with mine - Flickr. She never heard of it. :))) She decided to give me (!!!!) her email address... A few hours later, after a little editing, I attached them and sent the email to her. Guess how this ends... she gave me a wrong address. :)) As they say, only in NY! :)))
You had to shimmy past other walkers because the snow off the packed path was so deep. From a fabulous break in Lake Louise just before the world shut down in 2020.

Thank you to the stranger Jonny for sitting for me :D
Angel Olsen - The Sky opened
You've been on my mind
Guess it's about time
To see things just as they were
To see things just as they were
Left so much behind
The sky opened up and I climbed
To see things just as they are
To see things just as they are
And on my way back to the ground
I was appalled by what I had found
If you dare to be
True to what you believe
There's always somebody to lose
There's always somebody to lose
Even if you try
To pull all your feelings aside
There's always someone who will see
There's always someone who will see
And on my way back to the ground
I was surprised by what I had found
No one will ever be you for yourself
Even if the world is ready to help
If you give it some time
Out of the stranger you may find
Someone that hears what you mean
Someone that hears what you mean
These thoughts are easy to think
Easy to say
But when you're walking alone
Will you be okay?
Left so much behind
The sky opened up and I climbed
To see things just as they are
To see things just as they are
And on my way back to the ground
I was appalled by what I had found
No one will ever be you for yourself
No one will ever be you for yourself

When mom talks we all listen, but we are still allowed to stare at strangers.
Grizzly quad coy in GTNP.
Forest Tent Caterpillar Moth, Malacosoma disstria, one above and one below the leaf. Reminded me of that engaging but creepy US TV series about another world connected to ours, but somehow upside down.

*FIXED!*
I managed to get some help and figured out where the black box in my photos was coming from!
A black and white, long exposure, landscape image of two strangers standing in awe in front of Skógafoss in Southern Iceland.
I have been working on this image for quite some time now, returning to it from day to day. I think I am finally happy with this completed edit. I don't normally do black and white landscape images but I really think this one benefits from that treatment. I hope you all like it too. :-)
A lone sundown walker.
I titled this sundown image, 'Stranger Danger'......when in all actuality, there were likely no threats at all.
This person may have had a dog on lead.
I especially like how parts of this lone stranger seem to be missing from the image. The light reflections on the bench seat and the top of the backrest, give the illusion that he is partially invisible.

Each and every view, comment and fave are so very much appreciated. Thanks for visiting.......

I love the doors, it is a photographic subject that I really like, because they give a lot of play and come in all shapes and colors.
But this was different because I had not seen anything like it. It is actually half door, the other half, given the low light was completely dark. I found in a farmhouse inhabited near Ogassa while I was walking looking for autumnal forest.
I suppose that must be the gates from one corral, but because of the total darkness of the interior, I did not dare to make more inquiries, lest came the farmer with a shotgun and with little desire to parley with a stranger who entered in his possessions .
Normally, they are very good people and eager to talk but now, no longer trust anyone. Me neither. Not going to be that they let go of the dogs.
He had always believed that photography was a safe and risk-free activity, but just in case, I left as fast as I could.
No more to say, a door is a door, just caught my attention textures and contrasts.

No worries... Problem free!

We met Anita one lunchtime in a café in Petworth after our visit to a nearby National Trust Property. She was with her little dog, Benji, who was wanting to be friendly with us. I asked to take his photo, which led us into conversation.
Anita told us they were in the area house-sitting for her niece, away on holiday in New York. Billy the cat also lives in the house, not a problem as he and Benji ignore each other - after a quick hiss and scramble!
I explained my strangers' portrait project and she was happy for me to take her photo. In response to my request for information about herself, she told me about her interest in craftwork: decoupage and pyrography.
She has since sent me photos and explained that she taught herself decoupage, the art of decorating objects with paper cutouts, during lockdown. It involves taking items, painting them, and decorating with images mainly cut from napkins. "Very relaxing and time consuming, just what I needed to while away the days during lockdown!"
Pyrography is the art of burning decorative designs on wooden items with a heated tool, which Anita learnt, also self-taught, during 2025. She described this as "fun to learn as different woods burn differently and I hope to return to this to learn more about shading and techniques in general."
I must admit that the idea of pyrography seemed a little hazardous before Anita enlightened me.
I promised to send photos and the link to her story when posted.
Mutual thanks and goodbyes made, we left the warmth inside the café to be on our way home. It had been a lovely and unexpected encounter.
