Alan works out every day on the exercise bars installed behind the pavilion of our local cricket club. He wants me to come back and do some more shots when he achieves his fully "ripped" shape that he's striving for while the gyms are shut during the COVID lockdown.

I met Sally today while she was buying film for her new Diana 120 camera. I decided to position her against the bright sunlight to emphasise her hair. Having studied photography a couple of years ago, she is keen herself and was kind enough to let me shoot her. Hope you like it Sally!

I met Ellen in Nottingham, she was walking towards me and her dark red top made her standout from everyone else, so as we came level, I introduced my stranger project to her.
Ellen is a student in her third year of studying philosophy, communications and society.
Ellen is from Manchester and when I asked her is she prefers her home city or Nottingham she quickly said Manchester and then added that it’s the best city ever!!
When her studies end, Ellen wants to travel with New Zealand being the country she’d like to visit the most.
In her spare time Ellen enjoys listening to pop music and singing – the latter only to herself, never in public. Ellen also loves going for walks.
If I could grant Ellen a wish what would it be for? ‘Getting a really good job in publishing,’ she told me.
The one-word Ellen would use to describe herself is loud.
Does Ellen have a guilty pleasure? ‘Drinking too much,’ she said.

This is Trevor.
On my way round to the bottle bank I saw a man on a ladder. He looked perfect. But I didn't have my camera. After quickly depositing my empties, I jogged home, picked up the Holga and set off back to ladder man. Hold on though, who's this, with the twin red bags coming slowly down the street towards me? Dreams can come true. I could ask red bag man to be my ninety-nine and then ladder man could be the cherry on my One Hundred Strangers Cake.
Trevor was happy to be part of the project, if perhaps a little bemused by my coffee-fuelled ramblings of ladders and strangers and getting to one hundred.

When I first encountered Miah, he was uncertain what I was asking him. After he understood he declined, simply shaking his head. I decided to persevere and try another tact, and started speaking to him in Urdu. I started by asking him where he was from and went from there.
After I had been talking to him for a while, and he had got to know some things about me (and the project), I asked again and he nodded politely.
During the shoot he stood dead still and very serious, something which I did not see during my conversation with him. Maybe he wanted to convey a different person in the photo...?

21 / 100 : Lion King (And the return of...)
Hey guys!
I know, it's been a while.
And with WHILE I mean A HELL OF A LONG FREAKING TIME!
I've been off the radars since early december, but there's some good reasons behind that!
For starters, my father had to undergo a bone marrow transplant on january 15th.
I moved back to my parent's house fro Christmas and lived there for almost two months, to support and help my family during that difficult moment.
While there, having my father in the hospital, i clearly remember thinking that "This 2013 started in the worst possible way"
Ahh, silly me.
What I didn't know back then is that today, 70 days from the transplant, my father is going so well, I moved back to Rome and this 2013 that seemed off to a bad start, instead, began in the best possible way : with my father acing the transplant and recovering at a surprising pace!
During the two months I spent home, I didn't have many chances (nor time, per say) to shoot new photos so I decided to focus on the other aspects of my work.

Ok, now let's dive into this new Stranger for my project.
Two days ago I finally made up my mind and decided it was time (a.k.a. I REALLY NEEDED) to go out and shoot strangers again!
I've previously said this but it's amazing how much this activity, in a relatively short time, has become crucial to my self confidence as a photographer!
So I packed in my 85mm, my camera, and went to my favorite spot in the centre of Rome.
I was all fired up but something unplanned was waiting for me there : a huge political rally!
Which may sound like good opportunities in terms of variety of people you may find in the streets but believe me, it was not the case.
I won't say a word about the political party they were demonstrating for, but believe me, the electors were pretty damn old, ugly and (personal opinion) pretty dumb.
So I found myself not only facing the rejuvenated, utter fear of approaching strangers after 3 months of inactivity, but also with a tidal wave of people that I din't find interesting packing up the place.
But hey, you know that at the end of the day, it all goes down to persistency.
So I stayed there and tried to make the best out of it.
After a few tries (and the consequent few noes) this guys popped right up my face!
As soon as I saw him, the magical question popped right out of my mouth, without even time to think about it "Hey, can I take your portrait?"
I mean, look at that beard, and hair… You can't help yourself, am I right?
The guy, with the sweetest voice, said "Yes, THANK YOU!"

Meet Scooter, a party promoter living in Toronto. Born in Windsor, Ontario, Scooter moved to Toronto in 2005. He is 31 years old and throws a party called Cub Camp. Although Scooter has DJ'd around the world; New York City, Montreal, San Francisco, and Barcelona, his main project at the moment is this Cub Camp event. It's a party he's been doing for over 2 years now and he also throws it in NYC on occasion. Scooter noted that Toronto has lots of opportunity for the type of work he does.

Stranger #48 – Nataly – I met her in the centre of Wrocław, Poland. I asked for a photo and she agreed with some hesitation after I explained the project. I took a few shots in rather uncomfortable, windy conditions but I knew the results should be all right. It turned out Nataly is from Ukraine. It was a really nice encounter but I had the impression she was a little bit scared or at least deeply surprised by the situation ;)

We had come to Castlenaudry and we had decided to take a stroll around the amazing reservoir that the town had. The view was just lovely and the clouds were so dramatic that I stopped to take a photo, this photo in fact:

Sitting behind us was a lovely elderly gent who started asking us about, I think the view and just commented on what a lovely day it was. He insisted that he take a photo of my wife and I and even though he didn't speak a word of English we stayed and tried to chat with him for a while.
I can't remember the last time I met such a charming friendly man that I couldn't speak to! Even though he was initially shy at first about me taking his photo he opened up with a big smile for me. He seemed pleased with the result and we let him get back to enjoying the view.
Amir is Sally's boyfriend and agreed to be my 43rd stranger. He was inside the bank next to an alleway and when returning to Sally and me he also didn't need much persuation to participate in my project. He even asked if the light was good in the spot that I asked them to pose. I guess so :)

I met Hillary and Beansie as they arrived at the top of the Tor. I asked if they had come from far and they told me “Canada”. I told them about my project and asked if they would be up for being in it and they both agreed. I spoke with both as we walked around St Michael's tower.
As we chatted I discovered that they were part of a larger group and I asked if it would be OK to chat to Hillary for a while to take her picture then for me to get Beansie and do the same again. They were again agreeable and Beansie went to join the rest of the group.
I asked Hillary if she would be OK sitting by the tower and she did. It meant the she could take the pack off her back, have a rest and relax a bit. We were also shaded from the sun. We talked for a while. I took 3 photos and we chatted a bit more.
Hillary is a teacher and writer. When I asked if she had been in front of the camera before, she told me that she used to act but became less confident in her later teens. She said that I was good at making her feel at ease – which made me smile. Hillary works 2 terms of 4 months each and she is now on the long break in between – which has allowed her the time to visit England, Scotland and France.
When I asked what Hillary likes to write, she told me that she had just written a musical. I think it was about the passage to death. She would like to be able to write the music as well as the words but she does not have that skill.
When I asked if Hillary had anything else that she would like to share, she told me that she had just visited Stonehenge. A shaman had experimented on her. Since then she said that she had been attracting strange people. I figured that she was hinting that I was one of the strange people. I asked her and she agreed – she said that the shaman was the first and I was the second. She was smiling so I guess that I wasn't strange in a bad way.
I realised it was time to go and find Beansie. As we got up I realised that the rest of the group were gathered around. It was time for them to go down. I managed to get some photos of Beansie too (my stranger 183) and talked to both some more as we walked down the Tor together.
Hillary also told me that she like the way I pronounced her name. She likes the way the English pronounce it. It is the same way that her great grandmother says it (her Mum's Mum's Mum) – she is from England too.

Continuing my search for more "strangers" in Toronto, I met Adam who was more than happy to help me out with my project. Adam grew up in the north end of Toronto, in the Bathurst and Steeles area. He graduated last May with a Law Degree and does litigation work.
Adam is 26 years old and belongs to two musical groups. He sings, plays guitar and the bands' repertoire includes classic rock/blues music. Adam describes himself as a city goer and loves Toronto because it has a bit of everything.

Ernie from Milwaukee now living in Racine is a painter and looking forward to retiring in this upcoming year.
This is Roger. I met him at his marina in Derwent Water while he was attempting to fix the engine of a van...in fact he was trying to fix four vans and was borrowing parts from other vans to fix this one. Roger said they have a cafe at the marina and they serve the best scones around...this is backed up by tripadvisor...unfortunately we didn't manage to sample them.

I was walking in the Park when he saw me with my dog. He thought he would knew my dog and pet him. I thought he is a perfect stranger to take a portrait of. He was amazed that I've asked him. I talked to him and he said that he was homeless. He is living in a small garden shed downtown. He call his home "Tortuga". He told me where I could find it, and I knew location exactly but never saw the stairs in the bush to his garden shed. Photo of the stairs to his garden shed
I shot a few portraits of him while he was talking to someone else. This time I took the portrait with a auto focus normal lens.

Lydia was walking down Fitzroy Street when I noticed her. I loved her style and the light was great so I stopped her to ask for a picture. She asked a bit about the project and I explained what I was up to and what it's for. After brief consideration she agreed.
Lydia is from New Zealand though she works in London and like every single Kiwi I've ever met, she was really friendly, confident and relaxed. I'm a big fan of Kiwis, unless they wear black rugby jerseys and happen to be playing against the Springboks.
I'm really starting to like my diptychs showing a narrow full length shot along with a close up portrait. I've had a long running dilemma about how to present my pictures because I love the style shots, but I love people's faces too. This gives me the best of both worlds and in Lydia's case this was important as both aspects are stunning.
Thanks so much Lydia for agreeing to be in my set, I really can't say enough times how much I appreciate the wonderful people on the other end of my camera!

This is Sachiko. Her name is Japanese and it means, "happy child."
I met her at a workshop. While we were there, we had to choose someone we did not know and engage in an activity. And this is how I met her.
When the workshop was over, I talked with her about the 100 Strangers Project and asked her if she wanted to participate. I happened to have a copy of all my strangers photos on one sheet of paper. I shared it with her and she thought it was a good project. She agreed to participate but she warned me that she doesn't photograph well (I know... it's hard to believe.)
I asked her to tell me something that was close to her heart that she would like to share.
And she did just that. She started with her hands in her pocket and as she talked her passion escalated. Her hands emerged from her pockets and matched the passion in her voice... and we ended up talking more than an hour.
What is Sachiko passionate about? Creating a society that incorporates living off of the land similarly the way she has seen the Amish do in Pennsylvania. This would free people from a food system that we have grown dependent upon.
"What if we grew our broccoli and other foods? What if we did not have to depend on grocery stores and fast food restaurants to supply our foods. We would be much healthier and obesity most likely would not be an issue. What if we created a sustainable system so that none would starve? What if we all understood how to plant and grow what we eat?"
I so enjoyed her passion and vision. What a thought -- no one goes hungry! What if...
Contrary to Sachiko's belief, I had no problems taking a beautiful photo that expressed her passion. When we parted, we commited to staying in touch. We started as strangers but I believe I found a friend.

I met Agnieta on Dundas Street in Toronto. She kindly agreed to participate in my strangers project.
Agnieta is 21 years old and is presently studying finance at Ryerson University. She is in her last year and will be graduating in 2015. She was born in Lithuania and moved to Toronto when she was 10 years old. At the age of 14 she moved to British Columbia because her mom, a dental hygienist, could only find employment there. They also wanted to get away from the harsh Toronto winters. Agnieta eventually returned to Toronto four years later to attend University.
After graduation, Agnieta's plans are to move and live in Australia, with her boyfriend, and enjoy the warm weather and beaches. She also wants to travel all over Asia. After a few years, she is hoping to end up in Spain and stay there forever.
In her spare time Agnieta loves music and enjoys travelling. Her favourite area in Toronto is High Park. She loves High Park for the walks and the dog park, but a favourite place to sit and enjoy a moment is the rooftop lounge at the Hyatt hotel in Yorkville. It has, in her opinion, the most beautiful view of the city with Lake Ontario in the background.

I met Moses in Toronto earlier this week. I was there for a meeting and took the opportunity to continue my 100 Strangers Project during my free time. We were both at an intersection downtown, waiting for a walk light. Moses noticed me taking photos of a pedal/electric tricycle used for transporting tourists. He made a remark on how cool these bikes were and we started chatting as we crossed the street. After a couple of minutes I asked him if he would do me a favor and I introduced my project to him. He agreed to participate in the project and gave me a few minutes of his time.
Moses was born in Toronto and grew up in the downtown area. He is 40 years old and is an entrepreneur in the import/export business. In his spare time Moses plays guitar, drums and loves to write hip hop music. We had a nice chat and I handed him my business card in case he wanted to contact me for a copy of his portrait photo.

Alba works for UNICEF, and it was actually her idea to stop me, so this time the photographer was not to blame! She is one of the many cooperants of this organization that work around Plaça Catalunya trying to obtain donations or permanent memberships in order to achieve imprevements in children's lives and rights all around the globe.
Though I politely declined her offer, since I'm already commited to other organizations and projects which also claim time and money, I chatted with the for a while and shared most of her points of view on the matter.
Nonetheless, I asked Alba for a portrait and she gladly accepted, though she warned me she is "not very photogenic". Alas, how many times have I heard that?
I offered to send her the pictures, but declined: "they are a present, you can have them". I think she gave me a honest simle, which I really appreciate.

I saw Jezabel as she took photos of a young woman. During a pause I decided to ask her if I could take her picture. She agreed to be part of the 100 stranger project.
Jezabel took photos of her friend Yasmin with a borrowed Canon. The photos are a Xmas gift for the parents of Yasmin.

Rob, was at my job installing a security fence, I knew I had to shoot the art and piercings. Although looking intimidating, Rob was really approachable. The piece on his stomach turned into a memorial as the artist Mike Benson who started it passed away 3 weeks ago at the age 23. Rob laughed when I asked to take his photo saying "people usually devert around him while keeping a watchful eye". I uploaded his shot so he could view it. He thought it was cool when he saw himself on Flickr 100 Strangers. Thanks Rob.

Elijah getting ready to run from the back door. The mail lady was delivering mail.
We live on a one lane road that dead ends at the lake. There are not many vehicles that come in and out. The boys are old enough now to recognize some of the usual vehicles. Elijah isn't the most friendly kitty to strangers. When he hears the FedEx or UPS trucks come up the road he usually growls and heads into the livingroom. If one of those trucks backs into the driveway he keeps growling as he runs to one of the bedrooms for safety. :)
Nani enjoys travelling. She had most recently been in Sri Lanka.
I asked Nani if she enjoys yoga... "who doesn't?" she replied. Today she was with two friends, who made themselves scarce while I was photographing Nani but reappeared later as their car park ticket was running out (I think).
I had earlier asked Nani if she thought her friends would be OK without her, while we took photos around St Michael's Tower. The sun was quite low and the light was beginning to fade a little, there was plenty of cloud cover, so it was good to try a few different positions. Before they left me, I took a photo of the friends together.
Thank you Nani for agreeing to be in my project. It was good to meet you. I wish you well with the rest of your travels.

Meet a smiling girl in an art shop, from Rome. I was facing a block in the project. Due to shortage of time and inspiration, due to not feeling open towards the world, a lot of time had elapsed since my last "100 stranger" pic. I was thinking that maybe I would remain stuck at 5 and never complete the project. What was I thinking? It is a bit crazy, you know, maybe I should call it over. Then, one afternoon, I had the rare opportunity to enjoy a bit of sun. I was looking for a gift for my wife and I noticed this very nice art shop. So I entered, and found something which I liked. After taking it, having noticed that the two girls in the shops seemed friendly enough, I explained the project. They were slighty surprised but agreed very quickly. And so I took not one, but two different strangers pics. Since I was getting rusty, I told them my name but forgot theirs. Even so, thank you miss Stranger #6 for letting me go on with this project.
Chris is a farmer. He was visiting Glastonbury with his second cousin. Their common great grandparents lived at the bottom of the Tor.
When not farming or enjoying the countryside, Chris is active in his village. He has been a school govenor and helps organise social events. The village has no pub so they use the village hall as a venue.
I think it had been twenty years since Chris had last been up the Tor. I asked him if he had got breathless or paced himself. He said something like "it is but a step". He had been up similar hills recently.
Thank you Chris for taking part in my project. It was good to meet you and your cousin.

On a technical note. I generally shoot Aperture priority. Today I tried Manual setting - F/4.0, 1/400 sec. To give me enough depth of field on the face and a fast enough shutter for eye movement. I also forgot to bring my reflector today; it would have been handy to bring some light back to Chris' eyes.
My wife and I met up with Evan and Alfred on Sunday for a short stint down at Surry Hills.
I hadn't shot with Alfred for a while and I was keen to show him the delights of Crown Street, but things were a little slow as I think most people were at the beach due to the warm weather we have been having lately.
Luckily it wasn't long before I spotted a petite blonde wearing the classic Wayfarer style sunglasses that caught my attention. I quickly glanced at Evan who gave me this huge smile and then I was off chasing her down.
Hannah seemed a little hesitant at first but as I explained what it was all about she warmed to the idea and promptly agreed to a photo.
We moved to a side street to get out of the harsh midday sun and I was fortunate enough to find a plain coloured wall to shoot against. As I explained to her that I would take a few different shots and that I didn't want her to smile Hannah said she was very well practiced at not smiling in front of cameras as she is an ex model.
Perfect!!
Before I could ask, Hannah offered to take her sunglasses off which to my delight exposed her beautiful green eyes which were totally captivating.
I fired off a dozen frames or so and started to chat with her about her current career.
Originally from the south coast of New South Wales, Hannah is no longer a model and now works as a freelance filmmaker who writes, directs, edits and animates. Currently she is employed at PostBox in Sydney as Assistant Editor where she works on music videos and short films from pre-production to post.
A very talented lady indeed!

Stranger #47 – Wiktor – I spotted him in the centre of Wrocław, Poland. A well dressed guy who was walking slowly through a less crowded area immediately caught my attention. I asked for a photo and he quickly agreed but also noted that my request was rather unusual, so I explained its purpose. Wiktor was interested in the project, he asked about the number of strangers I photographed so far, for instance. As you can see he was patiently posing so I was able to take quite a few good shots. He seems to be a nice guy and it was a really fruitful encounter.

Dallas is the partner to Hannah (Stranger #98) and was very reluctant to have his portrait taken, but luckily for me I really didn’t have to do much convincing as his mother, younger brother & Hannah all badgered him until he gave in and agreed.
So, to keep things happening quickly I shot him right where he sat at the table.
I am pretty sure he was uncomfortable during the shoot, but to be quite honest, I was pleased when I saw the final image.
Dallas works in business development & plays touch football in his spare time.
As you can see Dallas is a very fit & strong young Aussie who is engaged to the beautiful Hannah. They are planning a trip to Hawaii soon to celebrate the event.

I had to pop into Redhill this afternoon so thought it best to bring my camera. I've been quite busy on the photography front lately but haven't photographed a stranger for what seems like ages. I thought it would be good to warm up before the 100 Strangers meetup in London tomorrow and when I spotted Michelle standing in a door way looking at her phone I decided that she would be the perfect subject.
I asked her if she'd pose for me and she answered "sure, if you want to" like it didn't matter one way or another.
I asked her to move over to the other side of the pavement to get a bit of the local 'scenery' into the background and snapped off a couple of shots.
Michelle wasn't very chatty but told me that she was waiting for her mum.
I thanked her, gave her a card and headed off. Well thanks Michelle for being a part of my project and I hope you like the picture!

Holly works for the carnival she says she has been around it since she was very little because her father does the same type of work. She is an amazing young woman with a story to tell but she didn't quite trust me enough to let me on it. She said she loves the people she gets to meet when going from place to place . Walking past the Ritz on Pall Mall, we'd just finished oggling a Lamborgini Diablo parked outside. I had a poster of one on my room many years ago. We walked past the bus stop when I saw Victoria here sitting waiting for a bus. I doubled back and asked her for a picture. I'm trying to remember exactly what it was that she said but it wasn't looking positive. I showed her my moo cards which seemed to seal the deal.
I didn't really have much to work with in terms of backgrounds and light but moved over a wall nearby on the edge of Hyde Park.
Victoria asked if I wanted to have her sunglasses on or off. I suggested we try both and she said that she'd just finished a hard day's work and gave the impression she was happier with them on. Fair play, her sunglasses are awesome and very much part of what stopped me in my tracks.
We started shooting and it immediately became apparent to me that this was not the first time she'd been in front of a camera. She was throwing poses like an old pro and following my suggestions to the letter. She admitted to me that she has done a little modelling before. She was clearly enjoying this session as you'll see when I post some of the other pics from the encounter. Victoria is Russian but has lived in the UK now for three years.
I would have loved to have spent longer with her but was concious of that fact that not only did she have to catch a bus but my son was sitting on the wall looking bored and wouldn't give me much longer. I'm not sure why I didn't think to get him to pull out my reflector to spark up the light a bit. Doh! It did make for a more dynamic set than usual when I have my models holding the reflector. Learning point!!
Anyway, I thanked her and she rushed for her bus which had pulled up and already closed the door. For a horrible moment I thought she was going to miss it but for some reason the bus driver did what they never usually do and re-opened it for her. I wonder why?

#23 This is Elise. I spotted her instantly on the train platform with her blue hair and blue hat. I knew I had to have her on my Strangers list! Not only do her hair and hat match, but also her shoes and fingernails! I took a three or four shots of Elise, but thought this one captured her the best. She was with her friend, Victoria-Stranger #24-stay tuned! I asked how they met, they didn't remember. Elise has blue hair because it matches her beret and hat. She has quite a few tattoos and was able to explain a bit to me. She likes Tim Burton and has 2 that reflect his work. www.flickr.com/groups/100strangers/
Rained the entire day. This was a brief moment of shelter with a stranger (she was trying to grab a quick cigarette).
Meet Hania. This is Hania's first year at Sacramento City College and she is majoring in International Relations. When asked for an interesting fact about herself, Hania shared she once had her elementary school go on lock down do to a movie she and the school's film club was filming. Not her most proudest moment but as she puts it, one of her most interesting ones.
Hania and I met in down town Davis one afternoon. It was her fashion style that caught my attention that was until I saw her eyes. I approached Hania, informed her of my 100 Strangers Project and invited her to take part. Hania accepted and we shoot several frames creating many excellent portraits but this one here is my favorite. The main subject here are her eyes they were just glowing. I'm am pleased with the results of our efforts.

Meet Val. He works as a producer for CBC News. We met when I noticed the rather retro look he was totally pulling off, with a warm fur hat and some vintage Gucci glasses. I asked what his favourite thing to do in his spare time was, and he said he loved to smoke cigars and pipes almost every day. "On some days, I'd stop by a cigar shop and buy a shoebox worth of cigars". I learned that his favourite brand of the cigar was Nat Sherman Cigars. Since Val looked like someone out of the '70s, I decided to create what I thought was a vintage Polaroid filter. I had him look right into the camera in order to show off his cool orange glasses. I did an orangy-blue filter in order to provide contrast between the two colours to make his glasses and hat pop. Do you have any constructive criticism?

Sandra and Ven (I think that's his name) were standing outside the entrance of the Tattoo convention and were having a discussion when I stopped them and asked them for a portrait of both of them. They did agree but I think Sandra seemed more happy to do it. Ven was carrying a big backpack and I believe had just arrived and so was probably a bit tired. Sandra had come down from Scotland but is of Russian origin.
Anyway, I had seen this dark wall and thought it would be perfect as a contrast against Sandra's blonde hair and complement her dark eyes. As she was getting in position she put her hand against wall and I thought that would make a great composition. I also wanted to include the green of the plant at the top right hand side as I felt it went well with the shot.
I really loved her look in this shot, but not the shape she was making with her hands and asked her to straighten them. Unfortunately by that time she was all smiles and although they were nice, something in her expression kept bringing me back to this one.
On a side note, I have decided that if I shoot two or more people, even if they are individual shots, I will count them as 1 encounter. Therefore Sandra is 42a in my shot, Ven will be 42b. Thanks guys for being a part of my project.

We were headed back to the Opera House car park after spending the day around the Sydney Harbour area visiting a few art galleries and photo exhibitions. Before making our way to our car I took a quick walk along the outdoor tables of the Opera Bar which argueably has one the best views in the world. It is situated on the forecourt of the Opera House which overlooks the stunning harbour and the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge. The bar was full of patrons enjoying the day when I spotted 3 very well-dressed people standing at a table near the main bar. I circled round and headed straight for them and introduced myself.
After the usual blurb and greetings I discovered that the three people who I had just met, Sarsha, Rosie and Banel were in fact the band playing at the bar. As they were nearly ready to start their next set, I quickly moved Sarsha to better light with the hope of getting the bridge in the BG and fired off a few frames to the amusement of the bar patrons. As you can see the bridge in the BG wasn't in my fmind when I looked through the elens.
Sarsha was a dream to shoot and again I had that feeling that she had done this before. Regrettably, I didn’t have my flash with me today, so no catch lights. My other regret was not asking her to remove her beanie as Sarsha was sporting a shaved head which would have made for a unique portrait.
There was so much to like about Sarsha's style and l was especially drawn to her amazingly deep blue eyes.
As it turns out Sarsha Simone is an accomplished soul singer and fashionista. Her voice is amazing and suits well with her music which is a fusion of soul and hip hop. I really like her new song Blissful Nights which you can listen to here Her blogspot site is here
I enjoyed meeting Sarsha as she was very friendly with a positive vibe. When I heard Sarsha sing I kept thinking that she reminded me of a modern day, white Grace Jones.

i saw james with these two bikes when we got back from our photowalk yesterday. i thought he had such an interesting look about him. it took me a few seconds to get up the nerve to ask (as usual). but when i approached him about the project he was so nice. he explained/apologized for squinting since his eyes were very sensitive to the sun. i asked him if both bikes were his and he said "yes." i really love this stranger shot--perhaps my favorite so far.

The last time I photographed a stranger, it was summer holidays. Now we're just past Halloween. That's too long. So yesterday I met up with Arnab to put things right.
We decided that the area around London Bridget and the river nearby needed our attention so, after a coffee and bacon roll, we set out.
London was heaving. There is an event going on at the Tower where they've set out poppies around the grounds. One for each allied soldier killed in action during WW1. It is quite sobering to see just how much red there is. And even more so if you consider that they'd need a much bigger castle if they included the figures from the German side. But I digress. The point was that we actually couldn't move around parts of London and had to head around blocks to get to where we wanted to be.
It was while standing outside the Design Gallery, looking at a lovely plain while wall, that I spotted Diletta. She was walking fast, head down in her phone and as I walked up to her I thought there was no way she'd agree. But I wanted someone with her exact colouring for that background. Not too dark and not too light. Happily she agreed after I explained the project so we set to work. I really loved her simple, elegant style so I went for a three quarter shot too which I'll put into the comments.
Diletta is from Italy but lives in London now. I love the diversity of this town. Thanks Diletta, it was great meeting you and thank you for your time.

This pretty girl was giving flyers about a blouse shop nearby which had an anniversary to celebrate. I walked a bit back and forth, trying to make contact in a subtle way (while I left the people I was with for a moment). Somehow :-) I had her convinced quite fast to pose a moment.
The first two pictures on a black background were not so nice (my fault as there was little light and wrong white balance). This one and another were far better, as the sun shone through the street and lit her from the side. I like the result!
I think I remember her name but I want to make sure it's the right one. If you see yourself here, please react by mail! I'd like to have your name as well. Thank you for posing with such a nice smile, beautiful outfit and make-up! Feel free to contact me if you want to do it again :-)
