Storage of electricity is arousing fresh interest as a complement to intermittent generation and an alternative to costly grid expansion plans. Given the rapid increase in RES (mainly wind) generation and the obstacles to construction of new lines and even to an upgrading of the existing ones, TSOs and energy companies are looking for alternatives. Alternative solutions are:

1. Reinforcement of the networks

2. Greater flexibility of existing generators, e.g. CCGTs

3. Electricity storage via hydro systems (pumping stations)

4. Other techniques of electricity storage: compressed air and car-type batteries

5. Demand response (possibly accompanied by diffusion of electric vehicles)

Which alternative looks most promising?

Should the solution be left to market forces or are there regulatory choices to be made?

So this is a rather large set of Ikea Besta units that are in our craft/play/work room. (You can only see about half the width in this photo). Absolutely well needed storage as when we moved in we only had under the stairs! All our books are on the very top 3 shelves that are just peeping into shot. After having all our books in boxes for the last 8 years it was quite nice to have somewhere to finally put them. There are also the top cupbards which house our oversize books and other junk. A row of cd's are across the centre section and then the double row of cupboards house my sons toys and my crafting/sewing/knitting items as well as two filing drawers! So it holds a lot of c@*p! I now want to take the top set of shelves off and move the books elsewhere, once i've gone through them and got rid of stuff we really don't need. This is mid way through the clearing process. HELP I need support through this one.

Building simple water storage systems is fundamental to try to collect as much rainfall as possible when it does fall. Our Drought Resilience Initiative includes this type of measures to support poor communities who have no water management system.

These storage cubes came from LTD. They're actually supposed to be for scrapbooking supplies, but they could really be used for anything. I'm using them for craft and scrapbooking stuff. Now I just have to finish organizing stuff in my craft room so I can move these in there!

Last weekend I went to Plymouth, MA to attend Mr. Rick Sammon photography seminar, I enjoyed his presentation. When I got out from seminar I saw this abandoned storage garage house next to the exit, I decided to stop by and took couple shots there.

A storage facility that I use that feels like a prison?

A little "tablescrap" that I built. I was trying to find a use for those pesky, not-good-to-use, technik motor piston holder thingies(they are the pieces on top of the boxes!). I like how they add a lot of detail into it!

I just bought this Yashica Electro 35 CCN wide (black). Holy crap what a great lens and fun little camera. I cleaned the battery contacts, cleaned the rangefinder glass inside and out, and put new seals in it. I love its size and weight - not too heavy, and not too light.

Read about my experiences with the CCN here.
