Found this hidden away today, it was given to me when I was a little girl. It was made for my aunty probably over a 100 years ago by her husband, it survived the great floods in Kings Lynn many years ago! I use to do handstands with it! It is covered in paint speckles too, so was used by my dad to get to places he couldn't quite reach with his paint brush! It only has 3 legs now and can't quite believe that we don't have the leg that has fallen off! Anyway bought memories of my childhood flooding back when I found it!

Here's the more-or-less completed step stool... made from recycled inch-and-a-half pine boards from the rails of an old waterbed I bought in the Eighties...
I was unable to find a plan that was entirely to my liking and/or could be easily used with the wood I had, so I came up with this simple design myself.
Since it's going to be painted, I elected to go with a very sophisticated screw-and-glue joinery technique (nyuk nyuk) and just fill the screw holes with wood filler. Waiting for the first application to dry at this point, then a final application of the filler, then sealer/primer coat, then plain white paint.
At some point Lynda will probably give it the tole-painting treatment, but plain white to start.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN - These are dead stock (never used) rubber wood stools which we have "dip-dyed" in the same fashion as the above (i.e., carefully painted.) From utilitarian to the ultimate in cool, in one step.

I only wish I'd gotten a BEFORE picture! These were fun to reupholster. The customer used iridescent vinyl adding to the fun of the shape of the stool.

Side view of the Most-Comfortable edger seat . . . to date. This padded seat has the same contour as the old farm machines where fitted with. Those old farmers would ride in the fields all day, how ? A spring mechanism is housed inside the tube to aid in height adjustment. This is a stool you will take your breaks on . . . .or maybe lunch . . . . . . If your guys or You cringe when you think about pulling the edger out to start sanding,. . . . .Now it could be a race for this New Edger Stool . . . . . . . .. SIT -n- ROLL.

One of my pianos is an old upright - a Sterling which was a respected manufacturer but ended in 1922 due to a fire. (http://derbyhistorical.org/sterling_piano_company.htm)
They made very ornate pianos, but mine is a plain model, yet I am impressed by the claw feet on the piano stool. Who would have thought of using glass balls for the bottoms of a stool?
