I've loved this style of stool since I was a child. I couldn't believe my luck when I found this one at an antique mall recently.

Tutto intorno siedono nobili, dignitari, ministri, sacerdoti.
Found this hidden away today, it was given to me when I was a little girl. It was made for my aunty probably over a 100 years ago by her husband, it survived the great floods in Kings Lynn many years ago! I use to do handstands with it! It is covered in paint speckles too, so was used by my dad to get to places he couldn't quite reach with his paint brush! It only has 3 legs now and can't quite believe that we don't have the leg that has fallen off! Anyway bought memories of my childhood flooding back when I found it!

Here's the more-or-less completed step stool... made from recycled inch-and-a-half pine boards from the rails of an old waterbed I bought in the Eighties...
I was unable to find a plan that was entirely to my liking and/or could be easily used with the wood I had, so I came up with this simple design myself.
Since it's going to be painted, I elected to go with a very sophisticated screw-and-glue joinery technique (nyuk nyuk) and just fill the screw holes with wood filler. Waiting for the first application to dry at this point, then a final application of the filler, then sealer/primer coat, then plain white paint.
At some point Lynda will probably give it the tole-painting treatment, but plain white to start.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN - These are dead stock (never used) rubber wood stools which we have "dip-dyed" in the same fashion as the above (i.e., carefully painted.) From utilitarian to the ultimate in cool, in one step.

Another recent "treat" I got myself. A pair of women's us 7 1/2 EU 38 Puma Hidden Wedge sneakers.
The wedge is about three inches tall. Now I've worn boots with fairly tall heels, particularly years ago, and my clogs have raised heels (until the wood wears away), but I don't recall wearing anything with this high a heel before. It did take a few hours before my toes got used to being bent so much, but I now wear them all day.
So far, no one seems to have noticed the wedges (they are really well hidden in the Pumas) or my new additional height, or how short my pants got. I've actually worn them all day all over town several days, and not even gotten a strange look, although I'd assume that women who wear wedge sneakers would recognize the style.
But, you know, I don't really care what people think, I like the extra height. I'm on the short side, so now I'm a little closer to average. And I can see that I need to clean the dust off the top of the refrigerator without a step stool...
These are "designer" sneakers, on the innersoles and straps they say : Puma by Miharayasuhiro.
Even though they are women's 7 1/2 they aren't really at all tight. I'm surprised that they are plenty wide despite being a women's shoe, and while my toes bump the front, they aren't doubled up and my heels are loose unless I tie them tight. I didn't even have to think about taking the innersoles out.
These are neat sneakers.
I only wish I'd gotten a BEFORE picture! These were fun to reupholster. The customer used iridescent vinyl adding to the fun of the shape of the stool.

This is a unique survival of a Cucking stool. It was kept in the Customs House on Ipswich Docks ready for use on the quayside and was rediscovered when the old customs house was demolished in 1842.
It was called a Cucking stool after the Norman French word “Coquiner”: to nag or scold, but was usually miscalled a ducking stool. In Ipswich, as in many towns, there was a special fear of women who cursed and made trouble between neighbours. Here they were ducked in the river; elsewhere they could be made to wear a bridle.
This was not a method of testing to see if someone was a witch, but a legal punishment. There was a connection, however, as a scolding woman could become a cursing woman and a woman whose curses worked was a witch. Villagers swam witches (male and female) as a test when the charge could not be taken to court for trial. It was thought that as the witch had rejected their baptism with water so water would reject the witch.
(Women that constantly complain and quarrel in the aforesaid town of Ipswich and will not control their wicked tongues but maliciously gossip about their neighbours should be punished with the ducking stool unless they pay a heavy fine if they have the money. (from the “Domus day of Gippeswiche”, written in 1291))
