Sticker Jam in Arkhangelsk city

Russia

March 2016

I use PoGo sticker prints for journal purposes on my Moleskine notebooks but unfortunately they add too much bulk to the pages for my liking.

Therefore I tried to make the stickers a bit thinner by peeling just the picture part apart from the actual sticker part of the print.

I used two-sided tape to stick the picture part to my Moleskine and the photo is now almost two times thinner than it used to be as a sticker. Hopefully now my Moleskine won't bulge that much after some use and journaling :)

sticker! its like 20 inches long. next time: glow in the dark ink, and i wont cut it up

A sticker on the tractor owned my the Mun Yeun community. Their protests were joined by an assortment of other concerns including a large one called The Assembly of the Poor. Educated middle class Thais helped the rural people to organize. Both environmental concerns and those of the poor are also supported by the king, but his power of influence is considerably diminished since my day, now that money is king.

Do you remember the big red ad in Thrasher with this graphic? You just knew it was going to be mind blowing! 86 was actually the 2nd Powell Peralta tour (the first being the year before).

86 was the second tour. first was in 85 obviously. Harris was the 'tour manager' or closest to adult and transport....George Powell's country station wagon!

Here's one of those Lexus SUVs with the stickers I was talking about. Apparently, the sticker alone costs $200. It is used to alert others that the car you are sullying with your eyes is, in fact, a Lexus. This helps clear things up for those who could not otherwise tell the make of the vehicle.

Curiously, I've only seen these ridiculously stickers on Lexi (is that the plural of Lexus?), but theoretically they could be put on any car.

So here's my latest scheme: I will import Lexus stickers for you, my dear readers. If you Paypal me $300, you too can have a gaudy Lexus sticker. You can put it on your 1984 Datsun and fool everyone into believing that you are fabulously wealthy. I'm taking orders now!

My friend Rachel collected stickers in the middle 1990s- the walls of her room were covered in them. When she left the city to go to college, she peeled all the stickers and put them in this book. A few years later, when she moved to Boston, she gave me the book, and I've had it in a closet ever since. Today I took it out and photographed all 60 pages. It's a wonderful time capsule of urban sticker art in New York twenty years ago- lots of forgotten bands, graffiti artists, and clubs. Leave a comment if you notice any interesting ones!

Sticker art (also known as sticker bombing, sticker slapping, slap tagging, and sticker tagging) is a form of street art in which an image or message is publicly displayed using stickers. These stickers may promote a political agenda, comment on a policy or issue, or comprise a subcategory of graffiti.

Sticker artists use a variety of label types, including inexpensively purchased and free stickers, such as the United States Postal Service's Label 228 or name tags.

Even if there were various unknown pioneers before, the first officially recognized example of sticker art in the USA is André the giant has a posse by Shepard Fairey, created in 1989. The first European (and non-American) sticker art project is I Sauri, started in 1993. Since 2000, many graffiti artists and street artists, like Katsu or Barry McGee incorporated stickers in their production, using them as an alternative to tagging and bombing, or as autonomous art projects.

Label 228s are often used with hand-drawn art, and are quite hard to remove, leaving a white, sticky residue.

Sticker artists can design and print thousands of stickers at low cost using a commercial printing service or at home with a computer printer and self-adhesive labels.

Sticker artists also print their designs onto adhesive vinyl, which has a strong, permanent adhesive, is waterproof, and generally fade resistant. A variant type of adhesive vinyl, called "destructible", is used by some artists. Destructible vinyl decals are primarily used as tamper indicators on equipment and shipping containers. The difficult–to–remove nature of this material is attractive to sticker artists, including B.N.E. and Obey Giant.

Artist Cristina Vanko refers to her "I am Coal" project as "smart vandalism." Vanko uses stickers to identify objects that are coal powered, spreading awareness of global climate change.

The artist Cindy Hinant created a series of projects from 2006 to 2009 that combined the tradition of sticker collecting and sticker bombing in works that reflected on feminine representations in popular culture.

Sticker artists often trade their work with each other in order to expand distribution. An artist's stickers may be distributed worldwide and end up adhered in places they themselves have never been to. These trades are sometimes arranged personally or through social networking sites.
