A recent nationwide survey showed the dramatic impacts of healthy practices, such as early and exclusive breastfeeding to 6 months of age, especially in the areas where volunteers like Mrs Bik are working.
Funding and support from the EU and UNICEF is ensuring that these proven strategies continue and expand in areas they are needed the most.

Preston Lodge run the ball out of defence at The Pennypit during a 36-17 defeat by Highland in Scottish rugby union's Tennent's National League Second Division. Victory for Highland saw the Inverness-based visitors stay second in the table behind Biggar, with PL dropping from fourth place to sixth. The hosts led 7-5 until the 33rd minute, and trailed by just two points going into first half stoppage time. But Highland took control by crossing twice, converting the second try, between the 58th and 60th minutes.

Preston Lodge RFC were established in 1929. Their roots lie not in the Masons but in Preston Lodge High School, with whom they maintain a close relationship. The club came of age during the late Sixties/early Seventies, during which they won the Edinburgh & District League three times. With the advent of leagues in Scottish rugby union, PL were placed in Division Five (East). By the 1984-85 season, they had reached the top division, and numerous international players appeared at The Pennypit. PL beat Caithness, at Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld, to lift the RBS Shield, crowning a memorable 2013-14 season during which the first XV went unbeaten in securing promotion to the Second Division, tier three of Scotland's National League system. At present, PL operate in the same division. Four ex-PL players - hooker Bobby Cunningham, prop Allan 'Chunk' Jacobsen and lock Scott Murray - have won full Scotland international caps.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Salzburg and the Department of Statistics of the Alpen Adria University of Klagenfurt organized the conference in collaboration with the "Methodenzentrum Versuchsplanung" of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), the Department of Statistical Modelling of Saint Petersburg State University and INFORMS Simulation Society (USA).
This international conference is devoted to statistical techniques in stochastic simulation, data collection and design and analysis of scientific experiments and studies representing broad areas of interest.
The 1st- 6th Workshops took place in St. Petersburg (Russia) in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2005 and 2009. The Seventh International Workshop on Simulation took place in Rimini in May 2013, the Eighth Workshop took place in Vienna in September 2015, and the Ninth one in Barcelona in June 25-29 2018.

Actually, the first time I went on Flickr was back in 2003. However since I didn't have a good camera, I didn't join any groups. Once I got my Nikon in 2007 that was it, I was hooked!!!

During the 1990s, the Philippines made significant progress in fighting poverty. According to the Family Income and Expenditure Survey of 1997, poverty incidence fell from 49.3% of total population in 1985 to 40.6% in 1994 and 36.8% in 1997.
According to an ADB study conducted by Ernie Pernia and Arsenio Balisacan, however, the decline in poverty rates did nothing to improve the country's notoriously inequitable income distribution. Despite the more-or-less sustained economic growth from 1985 to 1997, the poorest 20% of the population only improved their income 0.5% for every 1% growth in average income. In other words, they slipped further behind and income inequality became even more extreme.
The absolute gains were attributable to rapid economic growth during the Ramos administration, increased foreign investment, relative political stability, and decent public sector revenues associated with the privatizations introduced as part of the FVR reform agenda. (see Globalization Part 1 and Globalization Part 2).
Although the Philippines escaped the Asian financial crisis in better shape than many of its neighbors, the crisis did have a significant impact, an impact exacerbated by the damage done to the agricultural sector by the El Niño phenomenon during 1997-98. Both urban and rural sectors were hard hit by rising prices and a weakened labor market, causing poverty to begin edging up again. These factors contributed to a major increase in the number of Filipinos earning less than $276 a year (considered the minimum required to meet basic living requirements here), from 27 million in 1997 to 31 million in 2000 (39.4% of the population)

Thanks to all who visit this photostream, particularly to those who take the time to comment. I do try to reciprocate and to respond when questions are raised in comments.
Interestingly since the 16 Million Views milestone was reached in November 2018 the number of daily views appears to have more than doubled. These fluctuations lead me to believe that Flickr under Smug Mug now, has altered its way of recording photo views.
Its too early to say yet how much impact on Groups the deletion of images from free accounts over 1000 images will have.

Bournemouth .With seven miles of golden sands and sparkling sea, the vibrant cosmopolitan town of Bournemouth has it all - a vast variety of shops, restaurants and holiday accommodation, buzzing nightlife and endless countryside with beautiful award winning gardens and water sports galore. Bournemouth is a large coastal resort town in the ceremonial county of Dorset, England. According to the mid-year estimates for 2010 from the Office for National Statistics the town has a population of 168,100, making it the largest settlement in Dorset. It is also the largest settlement between Southampton and Plymouth. With Poole and Christchurch, Bournemouth forms the South East Dorset conurbation, which has a total population of about 400,000.
Founded in 1810 by Lewis Tregonwell, Bournemouth's growth accelerated with the arrival of the railway, becoming a recognised town in 1870. Historically part of Hampshire, it joined Dorset with the reorganisation of local government in 1974. Since 1997 the town has been administered by a unitary authority, meaning that it has autonomy from Dorset County Council. The local authority is Bournemouth Borough Council. Bournemouth's location on the south coast of England has made it a popular destination for tourists. The town is a regional centre of business, home of the Bournemouth International Centre and financial companies that include Liverpool Victoria and PruHealth.
Although Bournemouth is on the coast, the centre of the town lies inland - the commercial and civil heart of the town being the Square. From the Square the Upper and Lower Pleasure Gardens descend to the seafront and the pier. Areas within Bournemouth include Bear Cross, Boscombe, Kinson, Pokesdown, Westbourne and Winton. Traditionally a large retirement town, Bournemouth (mostly the Northbourne, Southbourne and Tuckton areas of Bournemouth together with the Wallisdown, and Talbot Village areas of Poole) has seen massive growth in recent years, especially through the growth of students attending Bournemouth University and the large number of language schools teaching English as a foreign language.
Bournemouth is located directly to the east of the Jurassic Coast, a 95-mile ( 153 km ) section of beautiful and largely un spoilt coastline recently designated a World Heritage Site. Apart from the beauty of much of the coastline, the Jurassic Coast provides a complete geological record of the Jurassic period and a rich fossil record. Bournemouth sea front overlooks Poole Bay and the Isle of Wight. Bournemouth also has seven miles ( 11 km ) of sandy beaches that run from Hengistbury Head in the east to Sandbanks, in Poole, in the west.
Because of the coastal processes that operate in Poole Bay, the area is often used for surfing. An artificial reef was expected to be installed at Boscombe, in Bournemouth, by October 2008, using large sand-filled geotextile bags. However, this deadline was not met, and the construction was actually finished at the end of October 2009. The Boscombe Reef was constructed as part of the larger Boscombe Spa Village development. Bournemouth also has several chines ( e.g., Alum Chine ) that lead down to the beaches and form a very attractive feature of the area.
The Dorset and Hampshire region surrounding Bournemouth has been the site of human settlement for thousands of years. However, in 1800 the Bournemouth area was largely a remote and barren heathland. No one lived at the mouth of the Bourne River and the only regular visitors were a few fishermen, turf cutters and gangs of smugglers until the 16th century. During the Tudor period the area was used as a hunting estate, Stourfield Chase, but by the late 18th century only a few small parts of it were maintained, including several fields around the Bourne Stream and a cottage known as Decoy Pond House, which stood near where the Square is today.
With the exception of the estate, until 1802 most of the Bournemouth area was common land. The Christchurch Inclosures Act 1802 and the Inclosure Commissioners' Award of 1805 transferred hundreds of acres into private ownership for the first time. In 1809, the Tapps Arms public house appeared on the heath. A few years later, in 1812, the first residents, retired army officer Lewis Tregonwell and his wife, moved into their new home built on land he had purchased from Sir George Ivison Tapps. Tregonwell began developing his land for holiday letting by building a series of sea villas. In association with Tapps, he planted hundreds of pine trees, providing a sheltered walk to the beach ( later to become known as the ~ Invalids walk ). The town would ultimately grow up around its scattered pines. In 1832 when Tregonwell died, Bournemouth had grown into small community with a scattering of houses, villas and cottages.

According to national statistics the population in Naryn Oblast has limited access to health care services and faces health concerns, such as child and maternal mortality that are higher than national average rates for the rest of the country. In response to this challenge and to increase access to high-quality health care and promote quality of life by maintaining international standard of health service, the Aga Khan Health Services established the Aga Khan Medical and Diagnostic Centre (AKMDC) in Naryn which was inaugurated in May 2016. AKMDC is a private and not-for-profit consultation and diagnostic centre.
The Centre, operating under a licence issued by the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, is staffed with qualified doctors, nurses and paramedics to provide reliable and affordable services in gynaecology, obstetrics, cardiology, family medicine and paediatrics.
Equipped with a general x-ray, Doppler ultrasound, ECG services, gastro-endoscopy services with generous support of the Government of Canada and the AKDN, the Centre offers full laboratory services including biochemistry, pathology and haematology tests. A well-equipped and well-stocked high quality pharmacy is available to accommodate to the patient’s needs.
I had to be happy to find such a large, fairly pretty building (for Bucharest) proudly proclaiming it was the National Institute of Statistics. Reading on the place Romania has its collection of successful mathematicians.
