With statistics showing that road accidents are the number one killer of young people in the UK, Fixers are taking action on road safety.
To have their voices heard, 20 Fixers and over 50 guests attended the 'Fixers Road Savvy Forum' at the Abbey Centre in Westminster on Wednesday 4th September.
The event brought together young people, politicians and road safety experts to discuss the biggest road safety issues facing the country today.
Fixers from across the nation participated in a morning workshop session, brainstorming ways to improve road safety. The findings will be presented to the government in the form of a ‘Fixers Green Paper', following the Department of Transport’s decision to consult on road safety proposals.
In the afternoon, a panel of five Fixers – Jordan Bone, Manpreet Darroch, Jen Byrne, Cathal O’Kane and Abi Phillips – used these ideas to answer questions from an audience of politicians and road safety advocates. The discussion was hosted by ITV presenter Nina Hossain.

Port Metro Vancouver has released their annual statistics for 2011 and its more good news for Canada’s Pacific Gateway and more jobs for B.C.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Salzburg and the Department of Statistics of the Alpen Adria University of Klagenfurt organized the conference in collaboration with the "Methodenzentrum Versuchsplanung" of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), the Department of Statistical Modelling of Saint Petersburg State University and INFORMS Simulation Society (USA).
This international conference is devoted to statistical techniques in stochastic simulation, data collection and design and analysis of scientific experiments and studies representing broad areas of interest.
The 1st- 6th Workshops took place in St. Petersburg (Russia) in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2005 and 2009. The Seventh International Workshop on Simulation took place in Rimini in May 2013, the Eighth Workshop took place in Vienna in September 2015, and the Ninth one in Barcelona in June 25-29 2018.

Linda Vista Community Hospital, originally called the Santa Fe Railroad Hospital and Santa Fe Coast Lines Hospital, is a former hospital at 610-30 South St. Louis Street in Los Angeles, California, United States, in the Boyle Heights neighborhood. The hospital was built for railroad employees and was one of four employee hospitals run by the railroad Santa Fe Employees Hospital Association. The property was purchased for $5,500 and the hospital was constructed at a cost of $147,000. The hospital opened to great fanfare in 1904 and even had its own Jersey cows, chickens, and a garden to provide patients with the freshest milk, butter, eggs, poultry and vegetables. This original Moorish-style hospital building designed by Charles Whittlesey, known as the Santa Fe Coast Lines Hospital, was razed and rebuilt in 1924 in the current Mission Revival Style structure. In 1937 it was renamed the Linda Vista Community Hospital.
The Santa Fe Railroad sold the 150-bed hospital to a managed healthcare company in 1980. By the late 1970s, the railroad hospital association facilities were experiencing declining use, as more railroad workers began to use conventional medical-insurance policies. The area surrounding the hospital also became a less-affluent area and hospital funding was affected. According to a California Health Law News report, when Linda Vista tried to reduce operational expenses in response, the hospital was blamed for an increase in facility death rates. During that time, the hospital was regularly treating a fair number of gunshot wounds and stabbings from the local neighborhoods, which affected its mortality statistics. An increase in uninsured and under-insured patients forced the hospital to close its emergency services department in 1989. The quality of care at Linda Vista Community Hospital continued to decline as doctors moved to other hospitals. In 1991, the hospital ceased operations. In the decades since, it has become the center of several paranormal investigations; the most notable investigation was initiated by Ghost Adventures, where the crew stayed a full night in the hospital. Since that time, it has been used primarily as a filming location. In January 2006, the hospital was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In 2011 the 4.2-acre Linda Vista Hospital complex was purchased by AMCAL Multi-Housing Inc. The structures on the historic registry, the main hospital and former nurses dormitory, will be renovated into the "Linda Vista Senior Apartments", and provide a total of 97 apartments for fixed-income seniors plus a medical facility. Phase I, scheduled to begin in spring 2013, will be the conversion of the dormitory building into four studio and 18 one-bedroom apartments.

The exhibition's theme title was "Focus on the Figure". Something the Government and health authorities are focusing on at present.
"Vital Statistics v The Hourglass" gives statistics for obesity in 6-12 year olds in 2003 and estimated figures for 2010 as percentages, shown in the shape of the hourglass (figure). The crayon fill is chosen to highlight that the statistics are relative to children.

During the 1990s, the Philippines made significant progress in fighting poverty. According to the Family Income and Expenditure Survey of 1997, poverty incidence fell from 49.3% of total population in 1985 to 40.6% in 1994 and 36.8% in 1997.
According to an ADB study conducted by Ernie Pernia and Arsenio Balisacan, however, the decline in poverty rates did nothing to improve the country's notoriously inequitable income distribution. Despite the more-or-less sustained economic growth from 1985 to 1997, the poorest 20% of the population only improved their income 0.5% for every 1% growth in average income. In other words, they slipped further behind and income inequality became even more extreme.
The absolute gains were attributable to rapid economic growth during the Ramos administration, increased foreign investment, relative political stability, and decent public sector revenues associated with the privatizations introduced as part of the FVR reform agenda. (see Globalization Part 1 and Globalization Part 2).
Although the Philippines escaped the Asian financial crisis in better shape than many of its neighbors, the crisis did have a significant impact, an impact exacerbated by the damage done to the agricultural sector by the El Niño phenomenon during 1997-98. Both urban and rural sectors were hard hit by rising prices and a weakened labor market, causing poverty to begin edging up again. These factors contributed to a major increase in the number of Filipinos earning less than $276 a year (considered the minimum required to meet basic living requirements here), from 27 million in 1997 to 31 million in 2000 (39.4% of the population)

Put this rough graph (most numbers are estimates only) together just to show how undermanned we are here. All the trends except library staff are going up over the past few years...and yet my request for an additional librarian were recently declined.
Woodlands fielders crowd a Bradford & Bingley batter at Wagon Lane during an All Rounder Cricket Bradford League Premier Division fixture. Spinner Kez Ahmed, who returned figures of 5-35, is the bowler. Bradford & Bingley, who in pursuit of 141 slumped from 46-0 to 76-7, had opener Charlie Best to thank for a nail biting one-wicket victory. The wicketkeeper/batsman contributed 71 and featured, with Ryan Norris, in a decisive eighth-wicket partnership worth 45. With the scores tied, Best went for a matchwinning slog. He succeeded only in top-edging a dolly catch. Fortunately, the last batter in scored a single off the next ball to spare Best's blushes. Woodlands, put in after losing the toss, struggled to come to terms with a wicket receptive to spin and offering startling bounce. Having recovered from 36-3 to reach 111-4, they should have scored more but loose shots straight to fielders cost them dearly.
Match statistics: Woodlands 140 off 45.1 overs (Jordan Laban 56, Logan Weston 22, Matthew Walker 4-17, Noman Ali 3-24) 5pts lost by one wicket to Bradford & Bingley 141-9 off 44.2 overs (Charlie Best 71, Ryan Norris 21, Kez Ahmed 5-35, Elliot Richardson 2-23) 16pts. Bradford & Bingley Cricket Club were founded in 1989 on the merger of the Bradford and Bingley clubs. Bradford vacated their historic - yet dilapidated - Park Avenue ground owing to hefty renovation costs and relocated to Wagon Lane, Bingley. Though technically a merger, it effectively meant Bradford disappeared from the Yorkshire cricket scene. Everyone refers to the merged club as Bingley. Bingley date from 1865 and have been Bradford League members since 1910. They have won the Division One title eight times (three since the merger) and topped Division Two on three occasions (once since the merger). The Priestley Cup has been secured seven times as Bingley and twice as Bradford & Bingley.
