According to Venetian official statistics approximately 16 million people visited the province of Venice in 2011, with increases projected for 2012-13. Most if not all visitors, come to visit the central island Venezia in order to see and be in the heart of the city. Geographically the city center which includes St. Mark’s Basilica, St Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace, the Rialto Bridge, as well as the homes and businesses of Venetians exists on a land mass that is roughly six square miles. These six square miles are criss-crossed by the Grand and the not-so-grand canals which invite tourists to explore the nooks and crannies of a medieval powerhouse that still displays its heritage.
However, as a frame of reference, visitors should do the math. Public access to the six square miles of the central part of Venice is reduced by the areas occupied by private housing, businesses and by canals. Effectively the 80,000 to 100,000 daily visitors and the 40,000 to 60,000 local residents or business employers and employees are competing for approximately one to two square miles of open space. Regardless of the crowds it should be noted that while tourists may travel stem to stern in seemingly endless lines of gondolas, on Venice’s solid ground no car, bus or motor scooter challenges a visitor’s right to live long and prosper. In Venice the trucks, cars, and buses come with keels and rudders. All vie for space on and in the canals. Gondoliers weave their boats and passengers through the Grand Canal water traffic much like carriage driver guide their clip-clopping horse drawn carriages through any busy city’s tourist center. The ancient monolith is impressive close up and boasts intriguing statistics : 348 metres high ; 863 metres above sea level ; 3.6 km long ; 1.9 km wide ; 9.4 km around the base ; covers 3.33 km2 and extends about several km into the ground (no-one knows exactly how far)!

The Tsar Cannon in The Kremlin in Moscow is a remarkable piece of Russian artillery from the late 16th century. Despite its imposing size, it was never used in battle and is more of a symbol of power than a functional weapon. Its massive barrel and intricate carvings make it quite a sight to behold!
Some interesting statistics: The Tsar Cannon is made of bronze; it weighs 39,312 kilograms (86,668 lb) and has a length of 5.34 m (17.5 ft). Its bronze-cast barrel has an internal diameter of 890 mm (35.0 in), and an external diameter of 1,200 mm (47.2 in).

hit “L” for a more spectacular view!
This is a verse from the Bible I discovered a while ago and I always wanted to use it for a photo of mine. I think it is obviously why I choose the title for this shot. There is the “Brandenburger Tor”, the most known gate of Germany and there is the Quadriga which looks as if they want to enter the gate in all their Glory. To emphasize the effect of entering something with glory and speed I used the Radial Blur Filter in Photoshop.
It wasn’t easy to not destroy the image with it but I think the effect turned out pretty well.
As I look at the image my eyes get really dizzy! What do you think? Is the image Top or Flop?
Also I decided to talk a bit on statistics on this image.
Lately a lot of my contact hit the 100.000 views mark. I am really proud of you. The reason why I want to share statistics with you is not that you think “how cool is he” or “man what an ass”.
The reason is motivation.
I want to motivate you to set a goal for 2012 and pursue it. I hit the 100.000 views exactly two years ago. A month ago I hit the 1.000.000 views. It wouldn’t have been without you that I could have reached this. So of course I am really thankful for all of you supporting me and viewing my Images.
If you are good in mathematics you see that it took me nearly two years to reach 1.000.000 views.
As I sat down and started my Flickr vision for 2012 I thought what do I want to achieve this year. After thinking a while I thought to change the two years into one year and the 1.000.000 into 2.000.000.
This means I actually need 2.000.000 views this year which is approximately 5479 views each day :-).
I really don’t know how I should do this but at the end of the year I will let you know if I was able to achieve this.
Again I want to motivate you to set your goals for 2012. If you are like me making crazy plans which cannot be achieved without much luck please write your Flickr goals for 2012 into the comment section.
I am really interested to see what you are planning.

2 i am going to get the lovely bones in about thirty minutes and my excitment to read that book is at an unearthly magnitude. i. cant. wait.
3 i am utterly and completely fascinated by hipster things. like beanies, nail polish, tattoos, piercings, glitter, hair styles and colors, glasses, clothes, belts, anything and everything remotely just amazing. i can sit on tumblr for hours looking at those kinds of photos. i just find it all so intriguing and i love it.
4 i cant stand when people hate on the mothers. how many times a day do i hear "i hate my mom" or "my mom's a bitch" or something remotely pesimistic towards a mom. it irratates me. and their reasoning is always the same "she's mean to me." okay big whoop if you fight with your mom. my mother and i argue ALL THE TIME. on a daily basis. sometimes hourly, depending on the day of the week. but i would never call my mother a bitch. i would never say anything cruel about her. i might say i'm mad at her but that's my limit. i love my mother. same goes for my father and the way i feel when people despise their dads. be grateful for your parents.
5 i cant wait for chirstmas. like i usually get excited, but this level of excitment is foreign to me. but i like it. a lot! haha.
6 i want to see the justin bieber movie at midnight whe it come out so freaking badly. like it's madening how badly i wanna see that movie at 12:01 when it's released

Last year 71 elephants were killed in the Kruger National Park, up from only 2 in 2014, 24 in 2015, 46 in 2016 and 67 in 2017. Another 4 died last year as a result of injuries sustained in snares. Most of the elephants were killed in the north-eastern part of the reserve, bordering Mozambique. While concentrating on protecting the Rhinos against humans the poaching of elephants is escalating. Where will it all end?
Ponta Negra is an upscale neighborhood in the Brazilian city of Manaus, Amazonas state capital. It is located in the city's West Zone. According to the census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), its population was 5007 inhabitants in 2010.
Although considered prime area, the increasing number of rennet cheese sellers boardwalk Ponta Negra have done to decrease the HDI in the region. The Movement Queijinho Vendors (MVQ), led by PT Laish Rebolledo Alencar, argues that the working class should also have the right to access view of the Rio Negro. Social conflicts between the residents of the luxury buildings and the representatives of the MVQ have grown and do not know what will be in the neighborhood of tomorrow.
History: - where today is located the neighborhood of Ponta Negra, but it is known that the region, around 1650, was inhabited by indigenous tribes. According to data historian, writer and plastic artist Moacir de Andrade, a mission was founded by Jesuits in Tarumã area, with the existence of Arawak Indians and Alófila, but no one knows for sure if there is a connection to the Ponta Negra.
"One way downhill having two inlet ends of which are lined with weeds." So Mario Ypiranga Monteiro designated the Ponta Negra beach which dominates the landscape of the neighborhood. No one knows for sure the year of the emergence of what would become the postcard of the city. However, it is known that in the golden period of the rubber, the region served as a supplier of raw materials for the buildings, so that was called Areal, precisely because it has a lot of sand in place. Ponta Negra, also left large amounts of coal and stones. On site there was a large property where it was grown cashews which the large trees became known as Cajual.
For a long time, the only way to access the beach of Ponta Negra was through boats, given their isolation from other neighborhoods of Manaus. In the first government of Gilberto Mestrinho from 1959 to 1963, which opened the access road to the site, but still get to the beach was an adventure, because the road was mud and did not offer security to passersby and not to vehicle drivers. The beach was establishing itself as a meeting point of the Amazonian society, where families were headed on weekends and holidays, especially in the warmer months of August, September and October. However, the Ponta Negra modernization process begins even with the road duplication in the early 1970s, and the construction of residential sets, such as Jardim Europa, which for many years remained the most distant residential area of the center City.. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a town in the district of Ansbach of Mittelfranken (Middle Franconia), the Franconia region of Bavaria, Germany. It is well known for its well-preserved medieval old town, a destination for tourists from around the world. It is part of the popular Romantic Road through southern Germany.
The name "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" means, in German, "Red fortress above the Tauber". This is so because the town is located on a plateau overlooking the Tauber River. As to the name "Rothenburg", some say it comes from the German words Rot (Red) and Burg (burgh, medieval fortified settlement), referring to the red colour of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river. The name may also refer to the process of retting ("rotten" in German) flax for linen production.
In 950 the weir system in today’s castle garden was constructed by the Count of Comburg-Rothenburg.
In 1070, the Counts of Comburg-Rothenburg, who also owned the village of Gebsattel, built Rothenburg castle on the mountain top high above the River Tauber.
The Counts of the Comburg-Rothenburg dynasty died out in 1116. The last Count, Count Heinrich, Emperor Heinrich V appointed instead his nephew Konrad von Hohenstaufen as successor to the Comburg-Rothenburg properties.
In 1142, Konrad von Hohenstaufen, who became Konrad III (1138–52), the self-styled King of the Romans, traded a part of the monastery of Neumünster in Würzburg above the village Detwang and built the Stauffer-Castle Rothenburg on this cheaper land. He held court there and appointed officials called 'reeves' to act as caretakers.
In 1170 the city of Rothenburg was founded at the time of the building of Staufer Castle. The centre was the market place and St. James' Church (in German: the St. Jakob). The development of the oldest fortification can be seen: the old cellar/old moat and the milk market. Walls and towers were built in the 13th century. Preserved are the “White Tower” and the Markus Tower with the Röder Arch.
From 1194 to 1254, the representatives of the Staufer dynasty governed the area around Rothenburg. Around this time the Order of St. John and other orders were founded near St. James' Church and a Dominican nunnery (1258)
From 1241 to 1242, The Staufer Imperial tax statistics recorded the names of the Jews in Rothenburg. Rabbi Meir Ben Baruch of Rothenburg (died 1293, buried 1307 in Worms) had a great reputation as a jurist in Europe. His descendants include members of the dynastic family von Rothberg, noteworthy in that they were accorded noble status in the nineteenth century, becoming the hereditary Counts of Rothenburg (Rothberg), later taking up residence in the city of Berlin where they were well known as jewelers until the 1930s. Most members of the family disappeared and are presumed to have been killed during the Second World War. Several of the von Rothbergs were laid to rest in a crypt located in the Weißensee Cemetery, while two members emigrated to the United States during the Second World War: Elsa von Rothenburg, 7th Dowager Countess (1893-1993) and Hans Joaquin Albert Andreas von Rothenburg, 8th Count of Rothberg (1913-1972). The family is survived by its last living descendant, Andrew Sandilands Graf von Rothberg, 9th Count of Rothberg (b. 1972), who resides in the United States.
In 1274 Rothenburg was accorded privileges by King Rudolf of Habsburg as a Free Imperial City. Three famous fairs were established in the city and in the following centuries the city expanded. The citizens of the city and the Knights of the Hinterland build the Franziskaner (Franciscan) Monastery and the Holy Ghost Hospital (1376/78 incorporated into the city walls). The German Order began the building of St. James' Church, which the citizens have used since 1336. The Heilig Blut (Holy Blood) pilgrimage attracted many pilgrims to Rothenburg, at the time one of the 20 largest cities of the Holy Roman Empire. The population was around 5,500 people within the city walls and another 14,000 in the 150 square miles (390 km2) of surrounding territory.
The Staufer Castle was destroyed by an earthquake in 1356, the St. Blaise chapel is the last remnant today.

Quite a fun year on Flickr! My thanks to all that visit my photostream!
2021 was not quite as intense on Flickr, as Larry and I were doing our '65 Summit Project' that year, where we summited 65 peaks with over 650 m of elevation gain, during that special milestone year for me. That year we ended up walking 825 km's in the mountains, and after adding up all the ups and downs, gaining 73 km's of elevation. That's a bit like going from sea level to the summit of Mt Everest more than 8 times. So 2022 was a year of recovery and having fun on Flickr.
I was allowed to bring to the final exam for my third year Stats course at Laurier. Hey, they told us to bring in one page, with anything written on both sides as an aid. Going into Stats, I was assured it was an easy credit, but it was the hardest thing I'd ever taken (I'm not a math person). Studied longer for this than any other course in my life, and I am still grateful for the C that I received but didn't deserve. It was the worst of my grades in university but the most satisfying. Yes, I saved the sheet.

Synopsis
Kei Kitami # who is aiming for a university # meets Kaori Uemura # an event companion who is 6 years older than her on SNS.
Kaori's dream of coming to Tokyo is to become friends with famous artists.
For that purpose # the presence of radio station producer Ryo Osawa was necessary.
Osawa talks to Kaori during the live radio broadcast.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other # to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days # staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous # unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

According to Venetian official statistics approximately 16 million people visited the province of Venice in 2011, with increases projected for 2012-13. Most if not all visitors, come to visit the central island Venezia in order to see and be in the heart of the city. Geographically the city center which includes St. Mark’s Basilica, St Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace, the Rialto Bridge, as well as the homes and businesses of Venetians exists on a land mass that is roughly six square miles. These six square miles are criss-crossed by the Grand and the not-so-grand canals which invite tourists to explore the nooks and crannies of a medieval powerhouse that still displays its heritage.
However, as a frame of reference, visitors should do the math. Public access to the six square miles of the central part of Venice is reduced by the areas occupied by private housing, businesses and by canals. Effectively the 80,000 to 100,000 daily visitors and the 40,000 to 60,000 local residents or business employers and employees are competing for approximately one to two square miles of open space. Regardless of the crowds it should be noted that while tourists may travel stem to stern in seemingly endless lines of gondolas, on Venice’s solid ground no car, bus or motor scooter challenges a visitor’s right to live long and prosper. In Venice the trucks, cars, and buses come with keels and rudders. All vie for space on and in the canals. Gondoliers weave their boats and passengers through the Grand Canal water traffic much like carriage driver guide their clip-clopping horse drawn carriages through any busy city’s tourist center. To paraphrase Shakespeare, in Venice all the water’s a stage, During the day Venice presents its water stained past in the guise of Palazzos, bridges, towers and churches, all accompanied with a cacophony of sounds and foreign languages (theirs and ours). At night a pleasant surprise awaits visitors who stay in the city. When diners and partiers head home residents and tourists experience Silence, perhaps modern Venice’s most subtle reminder of renaissance times, Silence, no horns, no engine noises, no canal traffic, and minimum ambient light. Consequently, from an open window looking out over the tiled rooftops of ancient Venetian homes, my wife and I could see stars and pick out the Dome of Saint Mark’s and the Campanile by the light of the same moon viewed by princes, popes and the popolo when the Grand Canal was grand.
Did we see everything? No…but we gave it a game try. We took the waterbus up and down the Grand Canal. We visited the highlighted sights. We walked and walked and walked, sort of like exploring a maze. We succumbed to the most unnecessary tour book advice offered, “In order to experience the real Venice get lost and wander its back streets and canals.” Wittingly and unwittingly we did get lost, but then again Venice is an island. So unless we were lost AND wet, we figured it was a safe bet that we would find our way back to our rooms.

UPDATE: See response from Flickr Support in full below in comments. They accept that Flickr My Year was pulling stats from BAD data.
As I have always done, this is my 5th stats count, I used the overall stats provided by Flickr in the stats tab, sorted initially on FAVES, then on COMMENTS and counted against my 68 pages of images, what I find is a VERY interesting discrepancy between what Flickr shows in my Flickr year and my own counting from their data.
HMM...Flickr's "my year stats" are significantly higher than the data they have given me, any ideas anyone and especially Flickr????

POSSIBLE ANSWER: Found this about Stats corruption bug?
The bearded tit is an unmistakable cinnamon-coloured bird of reedbeds in the south, east and north-west of England. Males actually sport a black 'moustache', rather than a beard!
