The IAEA Event: Net Zero Needs Nuclear Power will highlight the crucial role of nuclear power as part of the energy mix. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mr Rafael Mariano Grossi will announce the ‘IAEA Statement on Nuclear Power’ supported by 40 countries, both those already operating nuclear power plants and newcomers. Together these countries acknowledge that all available low-carbon technologies, including nuclear power, should be recognized, and actively supported. The Statement underlines the benefits of nuclear power, including that nuclear power plants produce no harmful greenhouse gas emissions; that nuclear energy contributes to energy security and the stability of power grids; and that it mitigates air pollution at a local level.

Thames Valley Police press statement - Police, fire and ambulance services remain at the scene of a large fire in Reading.
Officers were called at 2.56am today following a number of reports about the incident at a property in Rowe Court off Grovelands Road. Sadly, one person has died as a result of this incident. A number of other people remain unaccounted for. A 31-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of arson and murder, and is in custody. We are working with our colleagues on a search and rescue operation and will exhaust all our efforts to find signs of life. We expect this phase of the operation to continue today and into the evening and perhaps beyond. Three people have been taken to hospital, and these all have non-life-threatening injuries. An additional eight people were treated by the ambulance service at the scene.
A number of other people have been evacuated and are being cared for by the local authority and partners.
RBFRS Press statements - At 2:51am on Wednesday, 15 December, we received reports of a fire at a block of flats in Grovelands Road, Reading.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham Road, Theale, Whitley Wood, Wokingham, Bracknell, Ascot, Crowthorne, Slough, two pumps from Newbury and the Aerial Ladder Platform and Incident Command Unit were sent to the scene, together with seven officers and crews from Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire within a four-storey block of flats, affecting all levels. Sadly, one person is believed to have died, and there are a number of others who are as yet unaccounted for.

MSfit Opens For People Living with multiple sclerosis

A young man’s vision and the collaboration between WSSU’s Department of Physical Therapy and the Gateway YWCA have come together to form MSfit, a free fitness and wellness program offered to people living with MS.

It was the brainchild of WSSU alumni and former WSSU employee Brian Murrill, whose mother Patsy Murrill is living with multiple sclerosis. She was diagnosed in 1995. She is a teacher at North Hills Elementary School.
"It's been a challenging yet rewarding experience seeing this program come together. I originally came up with this concept in January of 2013 to honor my mother. My original goal was to create a program that would directly address the physical and emotional needs of people living with MS,” said Brian. He said since then his organization has developed key partnerships with the Gateway YWCA, National MS Society, and the WSSU Department of Physical Therapy.
Here is his view of the future for the program. “Today we have three main objectives: the first one is to provide the MS community with a free fitness and wellness program that is designed to improve the quality of life of our participants and their families. The second one is to take the results from our program and share them with physicians to better understand the role fitness and wellness plays in managing MS. The last one is to create an opportunity for graduate level PT students to get hands on experience working with our participants. MS is the most common disabling neurological disease of young adults in the U.S. It is our hope to grow this program and improve the overall quality of life of as many participants as we can. When you support MSfit, you are empowering people to move beyond their MS by giving them the knowledge, skills, tools and confidence to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors, actively co-manage their disease and live their best lives through health and wellness," Brian said.
The MSFit clinic is a free clinic where screenings occur for multiple sclerosis patients, along with development of an exercise program, and education on the exercise protocol for the clients at the YWCA.
MSfit officially opened its doors to participants January 26th at the Gateway YWCA, in Winston-Salem, NC, from 1-5 p.m. Since MSfit announced the launch of the program in October, it has received an overwhelming response from potential participants.
Prior to beginning the program, participants are required to complete an initial fitness screening that will gauge their level of ability. The screenings were conducted by the Winston-Salem State University Department of Physical Therapy (PT).
Dr. Sara Migliarese, a physical therapy professor at WSSU, said, “The WSSU Department of Physical Therapy is excited about the partnership with MSfit. Our third-year students performed the fitness screenings and developed exercise programs for the clients with MS based on their abilities.”
“Under the supervision of DPT faculty, the students will educate each client on safe and effective exercise using the YWCA facilities, classes, and equipment. This service-learning opportunity will benefit the students, as well as the clients, and the WSSU PT Club is already involved in early fundraising activities to help support the MSfit Foundation and cover the cost of the YWCA memberships for the MS clients. WSSU is committed to the success and sustainability of this community service,” Migliarese continued.
As a part of their coursework, the WSSU Department of PT will return to the Gateway YWCA once a month to reevaluate participants and document their successes.

Most Japanese weddings take place at Shinto Shrines. One the wedding day the bride is painted from head to toe in white as a statement of her maidenhood. The bride wears a white kimono and elaborate headpiece to hide her "horns of jealousy:" from the groom’s mother, who becomes the head of her family. A Japanese groom dresses in a black kimono. While the bride and groom exchange vows the two families face each other and not the bride and groom. One of the central moment of the Japanese wedding ceremony is when the bride and groom drink nine cups of sake, after which they are officially declared man and wife. The families also drink sake to symbolize the joining of the two families. At the end of the ceremony the father of the groom and the bride introduce their family members.
At the wedding reception the bride changes into a red kimono, and at some wedding a Western style white wedding dress. The wedding guest play games, skits, and sometimes karaoke at the wedding reception. Guest are expected to offer the couple "goshugi"(money). Most Japanese weddings take place in the Spring or Fall, because of the good weather. Some days are consider luckier to get married on than other. Noah`s Ark was set up in response to the exploitation of poor artisans, by Samuel Masih in 1986, in one room in his house as an alternative way of trading with local crafts people around his hometown of Moradabad, northern India.
From the beginning he was determined to ensure that artisans would be provided with the best rates of pay available and with the support to enable them to be freed from the grip of exploitation.
With Samuel’s resourcefulness the business has prospered: now there are more than 500 artisans are working for Noah`s Ark choosing Fair Trade employment to create better opportunities for their families and their communities.
And it is about more than just fair wages. Noah's Ark provides education classes for 50 local children who do not have the opportunity to go to school in Moradabad.
Each worker is given provision for school expenses, loans for house repairs and healthcare insurance. A social worker is also employed to support the wider needs of the employees and their families and communities.

I suspect they have something to do with the Green Party, an assumption based on the fact that all the main political parties were present in some shape-or-form in central Paderborn that day and this lot were using dustbins as props.

Intellectual Copyright: As of this morning I'm pretty darn sure someone has taken an image of mine without permission, possibly more than one. Despite my privacy and permission being set, from day one of being active on Flickr, so that only I can download and print my images and not allowing 3rd party sharing, etc, it still can (and will) happen from what I can tell.
The insult added to this injury is the fact that this person actually contacted me enquiring about buying a print of this image. I'm participating in a public forum for myriad reasons, but having my pictures misappropriated is not one of them. Not impressed!
