"Witness and Witnessed"

"Witness and Witnessed" investigates the perpetual split between who we are in our interior life and who we present to the world's gaze. The profile—alert, watchful, turned toward some unseen horizon—stands guard over the frontal figure lost in introspection or surrender.
I'm interested in the moments when these selves briefly occupy the same space, when we become simultaneously aware of being both subject and object, the observer and the observed. This simultaneity is impossible to sustain, yet it's where transformation occurs—in that uncomfortable awareness of our own multiplicity.
The linear elements emerging from the dissolving forms reference anatomical studies, suggesting that understanding ourselves requires a kind of vivisection, a willingness to sketch the infrastructure beneath the surface. But these lines also refuse to fully contain or explain—they gesture toward meaning without pinning it down.
The chromatic choice—that insistent red fading to translucence—speaks to passion, yes, but also to the way intense experience literally colors our perception, staining our self-image in ways we cannot fully wash clean. The drips and degradation aren't about damage but about honest documentation of how consciousness works: imperfectly, in layers, with parts always obscured.
This piece asks: What does it cost to see yourself clearly? And who is doing the seeing?
MelOrchid creates mixed-media works exploring the fragmented nature of identity and consciousness, held in private collections internationally.

Once again, this PATCO station in Philly proves to be the epicenter of a new, highly temporal art movement, if you will, where scofflaw detritus meets biological imperative. You may recall that November 7, 2007 marked the beginning of this trend. This morning I saw the latest installment: cigarette butt placed in a pile of sick. I'm not sure what it says, but it definitely makes a statement.
Monroe and I were at a stop light a few Sundays ago, and stopped next to this guy. His helmet says, "helmet laws suck"!! Monroe said...pull out your camera!!!!

Wenonah High School closed out its annual Black History Month Celebration with a message from controversial civil rights leaders, Reverend Al Sharpton. Sharpton embodied a powerful anointing from the moment he touched the stage and for the duration of his timely message. Sharpton touched on topics that many are afraid to address such as charter schools, immigration, prison reform, gun control and parent-child communication.
Hosted by the Wenonah High School Culinary Arts Department (Diann Pilgrim, Instructor), the audience was treated to an elegant breakfast prepared by the students in the program. Reverend Sharpton commended the program and the school for helping to ensure that students are equipped with a trade that can support them after graduation.
The spirit of unity resonated throughout the building. Many left the Wenonah High School gymnasium with a renewed commitment towards the work of social justice and equality.
