Cape Lookout State Park can be reached by traveling an hour and a half west of Portland through the scenic Wilson River pass. Along the way stop and enjoy waterfalls, scenic views and some great fishing.
A popular campground and day-use area, Cape Lookout is located on a sand spit between Netarts Bay and the ocean, giving you a terrific view of the ocean with easy access to the beach. Beachcombing is popular here, and the park is reputedly a good place to find glass floats. More than eight miles of hiking and walking trails wind through a lush old-growth forest. The Cape Lookout trail follows the headland for more than two miles. A bench is located at the end of the trail. Enjoy the view! You might see a whale or two along with other wildlife.
One walking trail -- the nature trail -- is perfect for a shorter jaunt. The nature trail gives you a close-up view of native trees and other plants. Numbered markers are keyed to a trail guide. The beach which runs for more than three miles from the base of Cape Lookout to the end of the Netarts sand spit provides another great option for walking at Cape Lookout. The third annual State of the Schools event featured BCPS Superintendent Dr. S. Dallas Dance both celebrating the school system’s progress and detailing the next generation of ways BCPS will deepen and expand the educational experience and opportunities for students. In addition, the luncheon highlighted student voices, performances, and artistic talents throughout. State of the Schools is hosted by the Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools in conjunction with Achievement/Excellence Sponsor Daly Computers and other business sponsors.

Cathedral Gorge State Park is a state park of Nevada, USA, featuring a gorge eroded through soft bentonite clay. The park covers 1,608 acres (651 ha). It is located in Central/Eastern Nevada 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the intersection of U.S. Route 93 and State Route 319, near Panaca. Cathedral Gorge was established as one of the four original Nevada State Parks in 1935. The park sits at an elevation of 4,800 feet (1,500 m) above sea level, and is typically arid with semi-hot summers, and very cold winters. In the summer, temperatures usually range from 95 °F (35 °C) in midday to roughly 55 °F (13 °C) at night. Rainfall is variable, and thunderstorms are prevalent.
A majority of Meadow Valley (which lies along U.S. Route 93 from the towns of Caliente to Panaca) was covered by a freshwater lake nearly 1 million years ago during the Pliocene Era. The richly colored canyons of Cathedral Gorge (called the Panaca Formation) are remnants of this ancient lakebed. Over centuries, the lake began to gradually drain. Erosion began working away at the exposed portions of sediment and gravel that once composed the lake bottom. Rainwater and melting snow carved rivulets in the soft siltstone and clay shale, splitting tiny cracks and fissures into larger and larger gullies and canyons.

Atlanta is the capital and most populous city in the U.S. state of Georgia. With an estimated 2018 population of 498,044, it is also the 37th most-populous city in the United States. Atlanta was originally founded as the terminating stop of a major state-sponsored railroad. With rapid expansion, however, it soon became the convergence point between multiple railroads, spurring its rapid growth. The city's name derives from that of the Western and Atlantic Railroad's local depot, signifying the town's growing reputation as a transportation hub. During the American Civil War, the city was almost entirely burned to the ground in General William T. Sherman's famous March to the Sea. However, the city rose from its ashes and quickly became a national center of commerce and the unofficial capital of the "New South". During the 1950s and 1960s, Atlanta became a major organizing center of the civil rights movement, with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ralph David Abernathy, and many other locals playing major roles in the movement's leadership. During the modern era, Atlanta has attained international prominence as a major air transportation hub, with Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport being the world's busiest airport by passenger traffic since 1998.
Atlanta is rated as a "beta(+)" world city that exerts a moderate impact on global commerce, finance, research, technology, education, media, art, and entertainment. It ranks in the top twenty among world cities and 10th in the nation with a gross domestic product (GDP) of $385 billion. Atlanta's economy is considered diverse, with dominant sectors that include transportation, logistics, professional and business services, media operations, medical services, and information technology. Atlanta has topographic features that include rolling hills and dense tree coverage, earning it the nickname of "the city in a forest." Revitalization of Atlanta's neighborhoods, initially spurred by the 1996 Summer Olympics, has intensified in the 21st century, altering the city's demographics, politics, aesthetics, and culture.

The Georgia State Capitol is an architecturally and historically significant building in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. The building has been named a National Historic Landmark which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As the primary office building of Georgia's government, the capitol houses the offices of the governor, lieutenant governor, and secretary of state on the second floor, chambers in which the General Assembly, consisting of the Georgia State Senate and Georgia House of Representatives, meets annually from January to April. The fourth floor houses visitors' galleries overlooking the legislative chambers and a museum located near the rotunda in which a statue of Miss Freedom caps the dome.
MBTA "State" Blue Line subway station in Boston, Massachusetts. Until recently, this was perhaps the best preserved of all Boston's stations. The ceiling was covered with very fine, beautiful, white, ceramic tiles.
In the early 1900's when it was built, the craftsmen used incredible skill to cut and fit the tiles to the complex curves and angles of the arched ceiling.
Only a few of the ceiling tiles were cracked or missing, the rest were in excellent condition.
I was shocked to see that all of the tiles have been thoughtlessly stripped off as part of a current renovation project. What a shameful waste of a beautiful architectural feature!
The "T" doesn't care about wasting money either, to needlessly destroy something that didn't need to be replaced.

Owned by Union Pacific Railroad investors from 1902 to 1977, the park acreage served as a cattle ranch and private retreat of the Harriman and Guggenheim families. Today, Harriman State Park provides the perfect setting to enjoy the park's unique history in a beautiful natural setting. Harriman State Park, the crown jewel of the Idaho State Park system, is situated in the heart of a 16,000 acre wildlife reserve. This sanctuary protects a diversity of birds and mammals similar to that of nearby Yellowstone National Park. The property, also known as the Railroad Ranch, was once the private retreat of the Harriman family, of Union Pacific fame, and the Guggenheims, then prominent in the copper industry.

Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) Chief Executive Officer Eric Green outlined the port’s growth opportunities and plans for the future during today’s sold-out State of the Port address. Hosted by the Propeller Club of the United States – Port of Jacksonville, the event provided updates on JAXPORT’s major projects, business growth, and supply chain trends impacting Northeast Florida’s maritime industry to a crowd of nearly 400 transportation and logistics professionals.
“The solution to the nation’s port congestion problem—is right here in this room,” Green told attendees. “As the industry looks to combat everything from truck capacity issues to labor and equipment challenges, protecting the supply chain is a global priority. That’s where Jacksonville’s modern deepwater seaport comes in.”
During his keynote address, Green announced that JAXPORT’s single biggest growth initiative, deepening the Jacksonville shipping channel to 47 feet, is on track to be completed through JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal as early as May 2022. The project includes the construction of a turning basin to allow larger ships to turn at Blount Island berths.
In coordination with deepening, more than $100 million in berth enhancements will be complete this summer to enable the SSA Jacksonville Container Terminal at Blount Island to simultaneously accommodate two post-Panamax ships. By the end of 2022, Blount Island terminal operator SSA Atlantic will welcome three new eco-friendly container cranes and complete the first 20 acres of a modernization project to enable the facility to accommodate more containers.
At the Dames Point Marine Terminal, Ceres Terminals has committed $15 million in private investment in cargo handling equipment and systems. Investments continue at the Talleyrand Marine Terminal, where the port is working on expanding its footprint and capabilities.
“Under Eric’s leadership as CEO, JAXPORT has attracted more than a billion dollars in investment over the last five years, including multiple public-private partnerships,” said JAXPORT Board Chair Wendy Hamilton. “These investments provide a modern deepwater seaport that will continue to provide supply chain solutions for the nation and bring new jobs and business opportunity to our community.”
“In our business, we deal through partnerships, and JAXPORT for us has been an amazing partnership,” said Southeast Toyota Distributors Group Vice President Casey Gunnell. “They are a business-forward organization that’s looking to not only support us but help us grow in this community.”
To build on the port’s position as one of the nation’s top vehicle-handling ports, JAXPORT is expanding a primary Ro/Ro (rolling cargo) berth at Blount Island to dock two vessels from a single berth. The $36 million project will take about 24 months to complete.
In lockstep with growth strategies outlined in its strategic master plan, JAXPORT is also exploring options to build its breakbulk capacity. “Some ports have shifted away from breakbulk; we are embracing it,” Green said.
Mary Baer, anchor of Jacksonville television station WJXT-TV, moderated a “Why Jacksonville” panel discussion featuring JAXUSA Partnership President Aundra Wallace and leaders from global companies who have grown their businesses in and around JAXPORT.
Last week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis visited JAXPORT to announce that Singapore-based ocean carrier Sea Lead has selected Jacksonville as a port of call on its first-ever US East Coast service. Jacksonville is the last port of call on the rotation connecting Jacksonville to three ports in China and one in South Korea. This new service is an expansion of Sea Lead’s U.S. West Coast operations and showcases the advantages JAXPORT’s uncongested berths and efficiency offers worldwide ocean carriers.
In fiscal year 2021, a record-setting 1.4 million containers moved through JAXPORT, maintaining its position as Florida’s largest container port and one of the top 10 container ports in the nation. JAXPORT is also one of the nation’s top vehicle-handling ports, moving more than 616,000 vehicles last year.
