Gregory Sanford, the inimitable archivist for the state of Vermont, relaxes at his home near Plainfield. He's a dear friend of more than 40 years, going way back to our days at Washington College in Chestertown, Md.
Built in 1932 under the agenda of Gov Huey Long, the Louisiana State Capitol is at 137m and 34 stories tall the tallest capitol in the United States. Symbolizing the end of "political domination of Louisiana's traditional social and economic elite" by Long, the building cost $5 million in the midst of the Great Depression. Only three years after its completion, Long was assassinated in the building over a judicial gerrymandering dispute. The Art Deco piece depicts various aspects of Louisiana state history. The 49 steps of the staircase leading to the front door contains the names of all 50 states in order of admittance. Alaska and Hawaii, admitted after the construction of the building, were added to the top step with "E pluribus unum". Historical Louisiana "Pioneers and Patriots" flank the staircase. At the 21st floor the building shifts from a square to an octagon, topped by the "Temple".

Ornamental capital on the facade of the State Lake Theater Building, now the home of the ABC Television station in Chicago, Illinois.
On old maps of French Creek State Park there is an old quarry marked off route 345. If you look at the current maps, the quarry has been removed. After an inspection of Google Maps the quarry becomes clearly visible.
To get there, follow 345 out of Birdsboro until you see a blocked off road. The quarry is about a 5 minute walk from that point and offers some breath taking views.

Finally got back down to see this theatre again after years of only having a not-great film shot.
Unfortunately, the light was bad.
Looks like it sold and is in worse condition than 20 years ago. Dunno what the plans are for the place but I love the way it looks.

Okay, I am a bit of a deli snob. I grew up in NYC after all. It's been a long, long time since I've been impressed by a deli. Well, color me impressed! This is the real deal! EXCELLENT corned beef, and bread to die for. The pickle is also the authentic New York style, but I've had better pickles.
I've been eating at some other delis in the area, from Amici to McAllister, but it's been a long time since I was impressed.
The folks there are friendly and knowledgeable, and best of all, have a very New York attitude. All that's missing is being called "Boss" or "Chief." (Whenever I go to NYC, people are always, 'What can I do for ya, chief?')

Wells begins to burn during the Engineering Building (2) fire, 1916. On the front: "Wells Hall starts to burn," "Harvey," "Ruins of Engineering Bldg." A small group of people watch as the fire spreads from the Engineering Building to Wells Hall. Chairs and other furniture are on the lawn.

A scene from a cruise along the waterways and River Neva in Saint Petersburg in Russia, which are both adorned with grand and ornate buildings along the way.
The State Hermitage Museum is a museum of art and culture in Saint Petersburg, Russia. One of the largest and oldest museums in the world, it was founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great and has been open to the public since 1852.
Its collections, of which only a small part is on permanent display, comprise over three million items including the largest collection of paintings in the world. The collections occupy a large complex of six historic buildings along Palace Embankment, including the Winter Palace, a former residence of Russian emperors.
Apart from them, the Menshikov Palace, Museum of Porcelain, Storage Facility at Staraya Derevnya and the eastern wing of the General Staff Building are also part of the museum. The museum has several exhibition centers abroad. The Hermitage is a federal state property.
We went up to the Empire State at around midnight, very very drunk. Not many of my photos from that night are useable (most of them blurry, or wonky), and there was a really high wind (they closed the observation deck early to do maintenance) but this one? I'm quite happy with. Considering the Nikon D40 doesn't do above iso 400 and isn't great with night... :)
