This photograph shows the Salem State Folk Song Society in 1966. The mission of the Folk Society was to "stimulate interest in folk music through studying folk instruments and theory, circulating folk music journals, inviting guest performers to their meetings , and sponsoring hootenannies and folk concerts." They were under the direction of Shirley Conrad of the Music Department.

The State Historical Museum (Gosudarstvenny istoricheskiy muzyey) of Russia is a museum of Russian history wedged between Red Square and Manege Square in Moscow. Its exhibitions range from relics of prehistoric tribes that lived on the territory of present-day Russia, through priceless artworks acquired by members of the Romanov dynasty. The total number of objects in the museum's collection comes to millions.

Cape Lookout State Park can be reached by traveling an hour and a half west of Portland through the scenic Wilson River pass. Along the way stop and enjoy waterfalls, scenic views and some great fishing.
A popular campground and day-use area, Cape Lookout is located on a sand spit between Netarts Bay and the ocean, giving you a terrific view of the ocean with easy access to the beach. Beachcombing is popular here, and the park is reputedly a good place to find glass floats. More than eight miles of hiking and walking trails wind through a lush old-growth forest. The Cape Lookout trail follows the headland for more than two miles. A bench is located at the end of the trail. Enjoy the view! You might see a whale or two along with other wildlife.
One walking trail -- the nature trail -- is perfect for a shorter jaunt. The nature trail gives you a close-up view of native trees and other plants. Numbered markers are keyed to a trail guide. The beach which runs for more than three miles from the base of Cape Lookout to the end of the Netarts sand spit provides another great option for walking at Cape Lookout. The UT Longhorns is Austin's team. I cannot imagine a professional team ever supplanting them around here. The team spirit is everywhere, even on ice in a beer cooler.

Unit D6 9, (Troop D, 6: New Castle County.) On its final day at the Fleet Garage in the Butler Barracks. With 122,718 miles, she is put out of service two days before this was taken. PSP's cutoff was 100,000 until budgetary issues moved it to 125,000. As far as I know, this is the last Ford Crown Victoria on the Western side of the state, for the Eastern side holds them for a long time.

Umpqua Lighthouse State Park is located less than a mile from Salmon Harbor on Winchester Bay. The campground and developed day use areas are centered around Lake Marie. Access to this small freshwater lake is provided for angling and non-motorized boating. There is also a small sandy beach set aside for swimming or just relaxing.
The small overnight campground offers RV and tent campsites, along with two beautiful one-room log cabins. These warm and cozy cabins sleep four comfortably. They also have covered porches which overlook picturesque Lake Marie. Rustic and deluxe yurts are also available in the campground . Showers and restrooms are centrally located.
The park is centered in the stretch of towering sand dunes protected by the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. These dunes, many of which reach heights of 500 feet or more, are ideal for the off-road enthusiast, or for the person who enjoys the magnificent wonders of nature.
The Umpqua River Lighthouse towers above the entrance to Winchester Bay. The 65-foot tower contains a distinctive lens which emits a red and white flash. The lighthouse and adjacent museum are operated and maintained by the Douglas County Parks Department. For information about museum and lighthouse tours, call (541) 271-4631.

From Whirlpool State Park you can walk, run or bike the multi-use recreational trail. For spectacular vistas, hike along the Niagara Gorge Rim Trail. For more difficult and challenging hikes, stairs descend to a trail along the river’s raging edge. The park also offers nature programs, shelters, picnicking and fishing. Restrooms available. Open Spring to Fall.

[anthropology of the state] This picture is a juxtaposition of a Delhi Police officer getting his shoes polished at the premises of the Old Delhi Railway Station and a mother of two observing the situation from behind the bars. The photo catches a complex moment which opens up not only questions about power and marginality but also unravels intersections of caste, class and gender in contemporary urban India.
The boys loved this Merry Go Round, but they are already starting to gravitate toward the faster kiddie rides.

When I took this picture in August of 2001, the Empire State Building maintained all of its essential glory, but had could no longer boast that it was the tallest building in New York City. The following month, it was the tallest NYC building again (and second in the country after the Sears Tower in Chicago).
By the way, I liked the sort of harsh, futuristic composition with the spires of the fence jutting into the frame. According to wikipedia, the fence was put up in 1947. You can't go all the way up to the top of the antenna, but the observation deck or terrace is at the 86th floor. My friend from Italy was adamant that we had to go up to the top... He didn't tell me until after we'd paid the substantial entry fee, waited on line for over an hour, and were in the elevator somewhere around the 80th floor, that he suffers from a fear of heights. He didn't last more than 5 minutes or so up here, but at least I got a few good shots in. ;)
Two local women are waiting for the light so they can cross State Street. This intersection, State Street at Roosevelt Road, is one of Chicago's busiest. This is the east end of the Roosevelt Road Viaduct which spans the former Rock Island, the Chicago River, the Amtrak Yard, and the former Pennsylvania Railroad.
The path they have just walked up is from an underpass that allows pedestrians to safely walk from Dearborn Park to this intersection. Notice the CTA 'L' train that's paused at the Roosevelt Station.
