Last week I had the pleasure of heading to the coast to spend the day at the beautiful oak-lined Savannah State University for Time Magazine. The article, by Laura Fitzpatrick, uses Savannah State as an example of modern school integration, as there is talk of merging this historic black university with a neighboring majority-white school to cut budget costs.
I trudged through the marsh behind the school with a marine science class collecting fauna for a lab, met members from Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Gamma Chi Chapter, saw the tailend of a track practice and more. Almost every student I spoke to said one of the main reasons for choosing their school was because of pride in its rich African-American history.

For an overcast day with the sun making some funky colors in the gray sky I think this came out very well. I processed a few others with angles from the other side of this monolithic statue but it included the sun which made the clouds kinda weird and oily looking.
Sometime this week or so I should have another pano of the Austin skyline which I am hoping will come looking great and not have different light variations like my previous pano from Austin. It will take some time but I'll definitely get it posted once it's completed.

Harris Beach State Park is an Oregon State Park located on US Highway 101, north of Brookings. The day-use area offers a restroom and picnic area with tables, and the campground has RV sites, yurts and tent sites available year-round. It is named after the Scottish pioneer George Harris who settled here in the late 1880s to raise sheep and cattle. Harris Beach State Park is home to Bird Island (also known as Goat Island), which is reported to be the largest island off the Oregon Coast and is a National Wildlife Refuge. Umpqua Lighthouse State Park is located less than a mile from Salmon Harbor on Winchester Bay. The campground and developed day use areas are centered around Lake Marie. Access to this small freshwater lake is provided for angling and non-motorized boating. There is also a small sandy beach set aside for swimming or just relaxing.
The small overnight campground offers RV and tent campsites, along with two beautiful one-room log cabins. These warm and cozy cabins sleep four comfortably. They also have covered porches which overlook picturesque Lake Marie. Rustic and deluxe yurts are also available in the campground . Showers and restrooms are centrally located.
The park is centered in the stretch of towering sand dunes protected by the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. These dunes, many of which reach heights of 500 feet or more, are ideal for the off-road enthusiast, or for the person who enjoys the magnificent wonders of nature.
The Umpqua River Lighthouse towers above the entrance to Winchester Bay. The 65-foot tower contains a distinctive lens which emits a red and white flash. The lighthouse and adjacent museum are operated and maintained by the Douglas County Parks Department. For information about museum and lighthouse tours, call (541) 271-4631.

Tangbau Hkawng Yang, 39, an ethnic Kachin woman, works as an assistant at the Metta May May centre in Lashio township, Shan State, Myanmar. Following the death of her husband in 2012 and subsequent discovery of her HIV infection, she sought help at the Meikswe Myanmar-run shelter, which provides support to people who are living with HIV/AIDS, including antiretroviral treatment and skills training to promote livelihood generation.

A Maryland State Trooper handles a traffic accident involving an overturned semi that went off into the woods.
The Virginia State Capitol in downtown Richmond was designed by Thomas Jefferson. He modeled the capitol on the Maison Carrée at Nîmes in southern France, an ancient Roman temple.
It was completed in 1788. In 1904, two wings (not in the original plans) were added to the east and west ends of the building.
It served as the Capitol of the Confederacy during the American Civil War (1861–65).
It houses the oldest legislative body in the Western Hemisphere, the Virginia General Assembly, first established as the House of Burgesses in 1619.

Won her first goat at 8 by writing a 300 word essay on how she would care for it.
“I remember being in the car and getting butterflies when I saw the fairgrounds exit.” First started to really talk to Tom in their early 20s, they had started to date long distance while she was in nursing school in AZ. When Tom had his accident they began to speak more and more. She came up to help take care of him after one of his surgeries to rebuild his ears. She stayed at his families house for a week after the surgery to take care of him. That was a defining moment in their relationship. After she graduated she moved to Syracuse. Her and Tom bought his parents farm, the same house she had stayed to take care of him. They still live there to this day.
“All the goats have their own personalities, some I hate and some I love. I can just look at them and tell if something is wrong.”

Gluing money to the ground, putting someone in a large stuffed prize and scaring people, putting someone in a large box or can and, with a cell phone, telling them which way to walk to scare people, using a fake spider or a snake on a piece of fishing string to pull or drop in front of people.

BASTROP, Texas – Despite earlier optimism, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department firefighters and other personnel were still facing a fire threat to historic structures at Bastrop State Park today.
According to TPWD incident commander Robert Crossman, all but about 100 acres of the 6,000-acre park have been blackened by fire, but firefighters have so far been able to save most of the Civilian Conservation Corps-constructed structures on the park, with two possible exceptions – two CCC observation structures believed to have been damaged.
