Somehow, I snapped this shot when the stage lighting got turned down at almost minimal. Barely anything was visible! So, this was an attempt to recover one of my worst exposures! 😅 If you're intetrested, check out a screenshot of the original RAW image in the comment.

Holga moment as Sonic Youth played Tuesday, July 28th at Roseland in downtown Portland. The air conditioner went out just as they hit the stage and they proceeded to melt us all into a wreathing puddle of pleasure.
A dramatic moment during a live performance as the stage lights and haze came together to frame the guitarist in a beam of light. Concert photography is always about anticipating the moment when music, lighting, and emotion align—and this was one of those moments.

I caught her in a small venue in San Juan Capistrano, Ca. (The Coach House- 27 Jan 2019) She's an American singer and song writer. More recognized older works might be "Wreck of the Day" or "Breathe". Excellent show. If you get a chance to catch her show, it's well worth seeing. The lighting was stage lighting. Depending on the artist they allow cameras in the place but no flash photography. The lighting effects were very interesting. They had a lot of Red/Blue and Pink/Blue, Green, Red, All Blue, All Red and they would switch them around for different back lighting effects.

As you can see, the colorful stage lighting was far from ideal. So, here was a self-challenged attempt to see if I could capture some decent scenes while handholding the camera. And, this was one of the few images that survived the mass delete! 😁 Enjoy.

Spending the weekend editing photographs from last week's Open Mic Night! Here is one of my favourite shots!
I captured this photo at a Band of Skulls gig in the Engine Rooms in Southampton. The venue was quite small, which ensured the crowd was packed in quite close to the stage when I took the shot. I was hoping to capture the effect of one of the lights casting across the camera's lens, and I wasn't disappointed.

Suspended in Reflection: The Sphere of Grace
The air inside the Spiegeltent is thick with the charged, vintage electricity unique to Spiegelworld’s Empire. Velvet curtains, flickering stage lights, and the faint murmur of an enchanted audience set the stage, but everything else falls into shadow the moment she steps into the light.
Suspended within a crystal-clear aerial sphere, the performer moves not against gravity, but in absolute, fluid harmony with it. Every line is intentional; every curve of her spine reflects an extraordinary balance of sheer athletic strength and weightless elegance.
The curved, reflective surfaces of the sphere catch the intense glare of the stage lights, casting warped, shimmering flares across the pitch-black void around her. Against the dark backdrop, the sharp contrast highlights the fine details of her performance—the delicate texture of fishnet tights, the slight arch of her back, and a serene, subtle smile that makes the impossible look effortlessly graceful. It’s a breathtaking fusion of classic circus contortion, modern cabaret flair, and striking visual geometry—a quiet moment of pure artistic control amidst the chaotic magic of the show.

A rare moment of deep reservedness during a live performance by the rhythmic noise duo Nullmaschine. While the room is filled with the fast, loud, and uncompromising energy of their music, the lens captures a calm, almost meditative stillness.
The high-contrast lighting frames Rico (Maschinenkrieger KR52) as a focal point of intense focus. On the left, barely visible in the shadows, is the silhouette of Stefan (Nullvektor), the other half of the machine.
It is a study in the discipline required to control noise—where the most aggressive sounds are often created from a place of absolute, silent precision.
Can a photograph truly capture the volume of a moment, or does the silence of the image always change the story?
