The sprinters are reeled in by the peloton after the Baldock Road sprint.

These 5 riders (left to right: Gregory Daniel (Axeon Cycling), Kiel Reijnen (UnitedHealthcare-blue/white jersey), Jesse Anthony (Optum), William Clarke (Drapac), and Daniel Teklehaimanot (MTN - Qhubeka) jumped out ahead of the peleton and have about a 2 minute lead on the rest of the riders.

William Clarke is lifting a musette bag filled with his lunch. The riders can burn through 6000 or more calories racing, so they eat on the bike during the race. Jesse Anthongy (orange helmet/sox) has his own bag slung over his shoulder.

Which translates to the rock towers of the monkey stones.

They are popular with climbers.

The probable explanation for the name of the group of rocks is due to the eagle owl that nested here in the past. The Old German word for eagle owl is Auf and the term Aufensteine corrupted to Affensteine (monkey stones) over the years.

Five riders opened a gap of over 5 minutes halfway into the stage.

I say "during" because I am bound and determined to beat this crud. I have a lot to be thankful for. Cancer has taught me so much about myself. And being at Stage 4 has made me realize what's really important in my life. Don't sweat the small stuff.... and it's really all small stuff. Life is short. LIVE, LOVE, ENJOY, and SMILE as much as possible.

Here's a shot taken just an instant before Mark Cavendish and Tom Boonen crossed the finish line. Look at Cav doing his victory salute while Boonen is still pushing with everything he's got, thrusting the bike ahead to get his wheel on the finish before Cavendish. Cavendish took a big risk and I'm sure he and his coach have reviewed videos of this.
