The cowshed is the second largest stone Gateway in the Elbe Sandstone Range after the Prebischtor.
It is 11 meters high and 17 meters wide - luckily I took a photo of the information sign.
The Cow Shed's form has inspired many artists and photographers.
The name may have come from two sources - during the Thirty Years' War, the population of the surrounding towns hid their cattle there, or alternatively the inhabitants of a nearby medieval castle, which had become a cattle rustling hideout had used it for the cattle which they captured in their raids.
We didn't spot any cattle or cattle poo so the cattle have long gone!
When the Painters Way first became popular in (18th centuary?) they attempted to rename it to Wildensteiner Felsenhalle (Wildenstein rock hall) but the original name had stuck.

A graphic depicting the statistical facts about survival of Stage IV metastatic melanoma. I have highlighted the LBB (liver bone and brain) curve as I have it in my bones. Just got word on Veterans' Day that there are no Melanoma parties being hosted in my brain per the MRI detective!!!
The time line starts sometime between July (clean scans) and October 2009 (when stuff showed up in my spine and ribcage on periodic CAT scan.
