Being the Spring equinox (well here in the Southern Hemisphere anyway) I thought some florally pastely whimsy might be appropriate. Hit 30C today, yay! Time to start swimming on the beaches instead of just photographing them.
Fun fact about the equinox. As you know it marks the tipping point from days being shorter than nights, to days becoming longer than nights. BUT .., days and nights are equal in length (each 12 h) for the southern hemisphere two or three days before the technical spring equinox and most of Australia sees about 12 h 8 min. of daylight on the spring equinox itself. This is because our atmosphere refracts sunlight so that we can see the Sun just before it's risen in line with the horizon and just after it's passed below the level of the horizon at sunset. Seeing the sun before it rises! Science amazes , and confuses me!
Happy equinox wherever you are in this fascinating world of ours :)
It is always nice to see a little color during the "dog days" of summer ... right. :-)
I certainly hope all of you enjoy what is left of our summer. I know I am trying to. :-)
The season is spring.
We prepared for the trip.
I prepared a new car.
I gave you an extraordinary dress for you.
For our shining future ...
We are going on a journey tomorrow morning.

A large open area in the cypress swamp is spring fed which gives movement to what should be stagnant standing water. It's a peaceful place to ponder life or fantasy while gazing at the reflections in the water.
The spring is almost gone now, the new fresh green and moist atmosphere is unevitably replaced by humid warm, sick drying green and tons of insects. Yep, the summer is coming. Not a good season for the forest photography. But it is neccesary for life as every other season. And the walkies are still superb!

Spring is finally starting to arrive with daffodils blooming. Taken at Cheekwood Gardens, Nashville, TN
Two of the Grand Forks horses, looking for something to snack on. It's been a grim late winter and spring here. Now we have flooding.
This year the daffodils bloomed smaller due to lack of rain in March. These daffodils were in the back yard of my mother's house by the fence in the shade.
Will be selling her house soon.

SPRING FLOWERS ARE A WELCOME SIGHT FOR GARDENERS, BUT EVEN MORE SO FOR POLLINATING INSECTS..Bumblebees, solitary bees, butterflies and many other pollinators emerge when the weather warms up, but pollen and nectar can be hard to come by. A huge number of plants rely entirely on bees and other insects for pollination, and yet population numbers are declining.
This little herb - chamomile ( Matricaria chamomilla) - really attracts a wide variety of insects. Today I noticed this interesting beetle - the Eurasian bee beetle (Trichius fasciatus). Its name is not accidental, because it definitely looks like a bee, right? Spring by the sea, still cool and with some rain : )
