A storm blew through leaving a trail of devastation across the state of Iowa. We were fortunate with only rain and high winds. My Irises took a beating, lost some, trampled down a few that I cut and brought inside, closed up a few but opened a few more! I find beauty in all the stages that a flower takes from bud, to flower, back to bud, to dying. Behold life and death in a cycle thru Mother Nature. I've been looking through a few old photos of gardens in houses I've lived in. This was taken in the re-designed garden of my last house in Reading, around Springtime of 1999, in a year when I'd clearly planted a lot of bulbs.

Photo of the day March 02, 2026 - A miniature daffodil. One of 2 daffodils blossoming in my wife's flower gardens.
I was originally calling these Easter cupcakes rather than springtime, but they don't have much to them specific to Easter... they're more generalized springtime in the theme. Either way, they're bright and festive... and tasty! The cupcakes are lavender white zinfandel (vanilla cupcakes with white zinfandel jelly and whole bits of dried lavender in the batter), topped with a meringue buttercream. I believe this buttercream is the "Italian" style. It's the first time I've made anything other than "normal" buttercream and I have to say I like this one much better... it tastes lighter and smoother and is just the right amount of sweet for me. Plus, it's very easy to work with and holds up well at room temperature.
For the flowers, I took a package of rainbow Twizzlers and cut them into cross-sections, then stuck them on florist wire into the meringue grass. Jelly Belly eggs are also scattered about.
I love the feel of this Phase 8 dress but not always the look in pictures. Somehow makes me feel too busty and big. Not sure it’s a style that suits me but felt so good I couldn’t resist wearing it again.

strange how scanned film (or polaroids) sometimes linger in my files for months or yers and then suddenly, one day, feel like the right thing...
Springtime means classic car cruisin' season has begun. We took our Mustang out of her winter coverings a couple of weeks ago but have only taken her out for 2 short rides so far. Unfortunately, she is up on jacks this weekend for some brake work and apparently a new caliper, so hopefully next weekend she will be all set to go.
