Pat sunbathing at the Kaloudis Village in Arillas by the Splish Splash pool - May 2008

My nephew Siegel displaying his awesome backflip skills

Crown Fountain is one of the top then must-sees in Chicago. There are two towers at each end of the splash pool that show smiling faces that, after a few minutes, purse their lips and "spit out" water. With benches surrounding the splash pool, it's the perfect place to take a well-deserved rest from sightseeing and watch the little - and even big - kids play in the pool.

17th September 2012 - on the last day of our holiday at the Kaloudis Holiday Village

Taken on a recent trip back from Falling Waters Trail in April. This was a great falls to visit. There is a nice picnic area a short distance before the falls, and the splash pool looked like a great spot to fish.

Lots of angles here, although this one required climbing up the left bank about 150 feet and then back down again. I didn't like the "dead on" shots as well as this side view.

Supposedly the falls are named for the "profile" of a face that appears on the right side of the falls if you stand in the right place. Not sure if you can see it in this shot, but if so, my friend David will point it out!

Last week, I unexpectedly received some secondhand dolls in the mail from an old friend! Colleen and I adored each and every one of these four dolls, and are very thankful and appreciative for such a thoughtful gift. Ordinarily, I would have chosen to include these dollies in an segment of "Dolly Diaries" since none of the dolls were in terrible shape. However, since flea market season is slowing down, and I haven't had the funds to purchase many dollies recently (which means less "Dolly Transformations" videos for you all), I thought I would give these lovely girls (and dude) there own Dolly Transformations video! I had a blast sprucing these dolls up and making them handmade accents. I hope you enjoy watching!

To see pictures of these dolls, or to read more about them, check out my albums.

I headed up to one of my first waterfall locations yesterday to shoot some classics. In about 5 hours time I hit 4 waterfalls... Minnehaha, Bad Branch, Crow Creek, and Hemlock Falls. I haven't been to any of these falls since 2009 and since I started shooting with my 5D. I have also developed an approach to my landscapes that I know I didn't really have then so it was interesting to see how I approached these falls now.

Hemlock Falls has a really fantastic hike with a ton of cascades and smaller falls along Moccasin Creek. I recalled cascades coming off the splash pool from previous visits but I really focused a lot of my efforts there this time. I'm pretty happy about how this one came out.

The water levels were high as we have been getting a ton of rain this Spring... this prevented me from trying to get to the upper falls on Moccasin Creek... Again... Ugh!

I wasn't sure if my car would make it down the logging road to Abiqua Road Falls without damaging something, but I managed to do so this morning. I was determined. Unfortunately, it was pretty late in the morning by the time I actually did get there, so I ruined what had been a nice, overcast day up until this point. Still, it was worth it because that amphitheater truly is something special.

Thanks for viewing!

Having not photographed anything since December 1st, I just had to get out and shoot. Saturday the weather was good, so I headed out. Glen Helen was packed full of hikers, so I opted for a less busy location. George Rogers was close by, and not busy.

While not the most scenic waterfall by any means, it still offers some good scenery and is close to home. I've already photographed this falls many times, so this day I looked for different compositions that I have not already done. In this scene my goal was to catch the swirls in the shallow, splash pool below the falls. The green moss on the rocks helps add some color, to a rather dull winter scene. I'm ready for Spring!

Clark County, Ohio.

This shot shows the whole splash pool area. It may not look it here, but I took some head-on pictures just out of the picture on the extreme left and was getting wet. Lots of spray! I think I did get one from there where I wiped off the last Neutral Density filter and quick pressed the shutter release.

NO INVITES OR ICONS PLEASE

If you live in eastern Tennessee then you have probably heard one of many stories about the flood of 1929.

Like the story of Oakdale.. A once thriving town that had theaters, numerous stores and even a elaborate motel. All of which got washed away in the flood or closed up there shortly after. Now Oakdale is merely a post office and a gas station.

Or the story of Harriman and how whole steam engines were lifted from the tracks and dumped into the river. River front factories were washed away and many people lost there lives. Some of the bodies were never found.

Lamance Falls huge monolith stone that stands at the edge of the splash pool was put there from the top of the falls during the flood also.

Which brings us to the monument. After 2 weekends in a row of being rained out troop 45 decided they were camping out along side Whites Creek rain or shine. So on March 22, 1929 approximately 20 boys from Troop 45 met at the cabin for an evening of games, food and story telling. The boys were awakened at around 4 am as flood waters from Whites Creek started to enter the cabin. The boys went out to the porch in hopes of getting to higher ground but with the rain coming down at a rate of three inches per hour the only option was to climb onto the roof of the cabin. Here the boys tried to scream to men on a near by railroad trestle for help but the water was rising to fast for them to help. The steel bridge on Rt. 27 had collected a lot of debris and turned itself into a makeshift dam until it gave way sending a tidal wave of water and rubble towards the cabin. The impact broke the cabin lose from its foundation and broke the roof into pieces.. separating the boys from each other. The roof pieces continued to break up and sink, leaving the boys clamoring from tree to tree as the flood waters continued to rise and wash away more trees. By around 2 pm most of the boys had been rescued by local Rockwood men however seven of the boys had drown and the troop leader had died trying to rescue the boys. Those who did make it did so with broken legs, broken hips and severed limbs. Many of the boys were in the hospital for up to seven months having multiple surgeries... all of which was paid for by the troop leaders wife using the life insurance from her deceased husband.

This one is from a month or so ago. It is a new 37 ft. high falls I found along American Canyon Creek. It was very misty at the base of the falls, and difficult to photograph.

A double rainbow at the splash pool of Shoshone falls near Twin Falls, Idaho. I took this on a bright sunny spring day and ended up using a variable neutral density filter to cut the light reaching the camera sensor, thereby slowing the shutter speed and obtaining a more artistic effect of the cascading water.

Hells Hollow Falls. Slippery Rock gorge, Pennsylvania (April 13, 2025)

Had to go to Massachusetts yesterday so I took advantage of it by hiking to 2 waterfalls.

Both were rather disappointing, but I can see the potential if there were more water.

I can't believe there were 2 dads and some kids actually fishing in this tiny splash pool!

I took off my polarizer because i was trying to catch the cool white water reflections in the splash pool, but this is a good lesson in why a polarizer is almost always a good idea when there is sun out. I found the reflections on the gorge walls to be distracting. Tried to tone them down with PS, but I still don't like the effect. Maybe with more water it would have been OK.

Having a play with this one. The Lower Dwili falls on the Neddfechan river has just gained a tranquil splash pool courtesy of the Flood filter. I'd visited upper Elakala Falls numerous times, hoping to capture that swirl in the splash pool. Conditions never allowed it...until this time.

We convinced our lovely friend and her daughter to stay the night last night and I made up for the awful dinner by taking them to my fav little french patisserie for breakfast. Food win! Great way to start a Sunday.

Minks and I then headed over the other side of the mountain for a long overdue catch up with a dear friend and her two cubs. Spent a gorgeous couple of hours soaking in the sun and watching our sweet, naked girls frolic in the splash pool. It was a timewarp of sorts with a rather large collection of vintage My Little Ponies coming out to play in the sun along with Twink from Rainbow Brite. As most can imagine, Minka was just a little bit enamored with the Ponies. Why oh why, did I birth a child into a horse mad family *face palm*

Minks put up a fine protest when it was time to leave but was thrilled when she realised that I was taking her to play golf with her pa. I dropped her off and then thought I would get a bunch done here; three loads of washing later and Stew was back! We then headed out for a couple of hours to do some more wood and then we realised another weekend had vanished. Seriously, need a few more days in my weeks!

I tried to take a picture of Arminka this afternoon and was utterly horrified at the result! My gorgeous child was channeling those kids that go stupid in front of camera and pull the most hideous faces. What happened to my dream boat, my little cherub who looks dreamily into the distance?? *sook* Still grabbed a couple of cute shots and I should post a pic of her and Stew working hard with the log splitter, très cute.

Okay, so big week for us ahead. I plan to hold onto all my minutes in the day and make them all count. Happy weekend all xx
