I love the intro and outro to this song. If you listen with headphones, you can hear ambient sounds of people at the beach or something. Anyway, I’m pairing it with this image that was taken at a water feature we have in town. It’s the closest we can get to the beach around here. ;)

I spent several hours along the parkway this morning searching future shot locations, and interesting scenery. I decided to go looking for Elk along some of the more secluded areas, but ended up finding this small waterfall. Tree roots hanging down into the streams of water, the rocks creating small catches before terminating into this small pool beneath. It looks like a wet weather stream cropped up, and I was happy to discover it along my drive. I actually had to turn back and come back for this shot as the parking area was occupied. I hope it turned out well, this of course is a focus stacked image.

This is south falls at Silver Creek State Park, in the state of Oregon.

This time of year, there is a great deal of water coming over the falls.

It is 177 ft. from the top to the falls to the bottom of the splash pool.

There is a lot of hiking to be had in this area, to see other falls, and experience other beauty.

There is a trail that goes in and behind this waterfall, so one can get up close and personal with it. You had better have some rain gear on when you do this because the water mist from the splash pool will get you a bit wet otherwise. :-)

Have a wonderful new week, and stay safe and well my friends ...

In looking for a different perspective of this often shot rock shelter I think I may have found my favorite shot I've ever taken of the massive 100 ft high Ash Cave. Although you can't hardly tell there's a falls, only because of the splash pool, I don't think there are very many landscapes that are this cool. It looks like it snowed on Mars.

An evening shot of the Lake Club. I posted a similar shot not too long ago, but this is a little different angle and shows the waterfall from the splash pool. I know, I need to get out more and take something away from work, but with all this beauty....

A look at one of my favorite power-house falls, Koosah Falls. This 65 footer bellows out a huge mist cloud as it pours itself into a beautiful turquoise splash pool. The current is also pretty swift in this area and took my down ripping my waders as I searched out compostions.

Brush Creek Falls

Brush Creek State Park

West Virginia

I don't think we could have asked for better shooting conditions on our first day of our West Virginia trip. Our second stop of the day was Brush Creek Falls, an impressive and beautiful waterfall located about 20 miles from Sandstone Falls in the New River Gorge. Although gorgeous, the falls is a difficult subject to shoot from below as a massive splash pool makes for an uninteresting foreground. From the right side though it is a completely different story as not only can you get up close and personal with this lovely waterfall but you can get lost in it's personality and beauty.

The River Etive and one of its many small waterfalls.

Copperas Creek Falls

Copperas Creek

Red River Gorge Geological Area

Daniel Boone National Forest

Kentucky

A few weekends ago myself and good friend Nathan Schertler made a day trip journey to Kentucky’s Red River Gorge in the Daniel Boone National Forest. I hadn’t fully decided on where to go yet because it was a sunny day with no clouds. After stopping by the 1st stage Baby Arch, Underworld and the in-the-process Great Arch, we decided to make the hike back to Copperas Creek Falls. I had been to the falls two times in the past, 4 and 5 years ago, back when hardly anyone knew of the remote waterfall, so when Nathan and I started the trail I was surprised to see how things had changed. It had become a freeway. What once looked like nothing more than a deer path was now an easy to follow well worn trail. At first I was pretty concerned about making the 4 mile or so round trip hike, my knees had been bothering me badly all day and I started thinking to myself that I had made a mistake, but as the trail wore on my knees seemed to improve. I had never seen the water on the creek so high, there was no way to avoid getting the feet wet on this trek as there are at the least 10 creek crossings, some half way up the calf. I'll admit, half the fun is getting there as the hike is beautiful and really cleanses the soul. Upon our arrival this was the scene that had greeted us, I had planned the hike perfectly as the sun was just off to the right of the falls. The waterfall plunges 40 ft over a large rock recess into an emerald splash pool and though I'm sure these two rocks in the foreground had been moved there by a human, it made for a gorgeous scene. Damn, I could just live out here forever.

The title says it all. When you go on a waterfall trip, you usually want to have at least a couple of cloudy days, but on this trip, no go. 3 days of bright sunshine. Nonetheless you got to take what you can get, so that's what myself, good friends Jason Haley, Bryan Janosick, Randy Sanger, and new friend Sarah Hampton did. Although at beautiful waterfall, I kind of felt it was a difficult waterfall to compose because of the massive splash pool. I found it was an excellent waterfall for isolations and there is a section of smaller waterfalls just above the falls that were quite fun to shoot too.

Bear Pen Branch Natural Bridge

Bear Pen Branch Bridge Falls

Bear Pen Branch

Wolfe County

Kentucky

Back in July my good friend Chris Morris and I got the opportunity to visit a natural bridge that has been on my bucket list for years. Up until recently it was a double bridge with two spans over top of one another but sadly the lower span collapsed probably because of debris impacting it in the creek. It’s not often I am completely taken by surprise but even with the lower span gone this was immediately an all time favorite arch. Seriously, there is a waterfall flowing right through it. Below the falls, a long shallow splashpool which ended at another waterfall with another natural bridge right next to it! Wow! Of all the years I’ve been shooting waterfalls I have simply got in the water getting my shoes and socks wet and dealing with it for the day but at Chris’s suggestion for the first time I took off my shoes and socks and waded the splash pool. Cold? Yes, but that didn’t matter, wading around in a shallow pool on a hot July morning at a waterfall and a natural bridge, it just doesn’t get any better than that!

Blue Hole Falls on High Shoals Creek in the North Georgia Mountains. I finally got to experience this place, after two failed attempts. It was great to get down to the falls early and experience it without all of the people swimming in the splash pool.

A little cold snap in Oregon froze the splash pool and surrounding area.

The Butler Wash Ruin is on the eastern side of Comb Ridge, at the head of a small, ephemeral tributary of Butler Wash. This settlement was established by Ancient Puebloans in the early 1200s. The utility of this shot is not the view that it gives of the settlement, but of the general lay of the land and particularly the height of the buildings above the splash pool.

The central point of this cluster is evident in the large alcove and a smaller unit is in the next alcove to the west. From this vantage, with a set of binoculars, one can find walls and granaries in many of the alcoves in this canyon.

For a view of the primary settlement that shows three kivas, see my next post or the first comment

Ash Cave Falls

Ash Cave Ice Cone

Hocking Hills State Park

Ohio

Looks like we're in store for some below freezing temps for quite some time! When that happens, especially for a few weeks, one of the coolest phenomenons I've witnessed occurs at Ash Cave in Ohio's Hocking Hills State Park! I call it the Ash Cave Ice Cone and forms in the splash pool of the 90 ft tall waterfall. This photo here is from a trip my fiance Lisa and I took during a winter weather emergency back in March 2015. It was awe inspiring to be standing here with this towering 50 ft tall monolith and was a bucket list accomplishment! What a powerful scene created by nature! Just might have to go back if this predicted cold weather holds up!

Funston Arch Complex

Eagle Creek Natural Bridge

Kentucky

Located on private property , this is one of Kentucky's more beautiful places as a stream passes beneath a natural bridge then makes two 4 ft. or so drops into a splash pool shared with another 20 ft tall waterfall! Besides what you see here to the left out of the shot are two more natural arches and behind me are two natural windows! It doesn't get much better than this and it's a place I can spend hours at, and have done so more than on one occasion!

Mannum Falls

South Australia

On my previous trip to this spot 2 years ago, the water flow was lower meaning that half splash pool was white and half was black giving it its yin yang appearance. Today, the higher flow meant lots of foam and the whole pool frothed up. I still like this little pool but wonder if one day I should bring a blow vac to the scene! That is definitely not one of our 50 + tips from our new ebook which you can check out in the link below !

This composition was actually a last minute afterthought when my daughter and I visited this falls. This is the 5th time here and the only reason we went to it was because Emily had not been to it. I took a few perspectives of the falls but really nothing new stood out as the flow of the falls seemed a bit lame and there were a couple of ding dong photographers that were wandering about in and out of my shots so finally I said to hell with it and packed everything up. Emily was collecting small pieces of sandstone for a project she was working on so I decided to have a look at the falls from the left side and I noticed a small cascade flowing into the splash pool where the water was loaded with sand. Upon closer inspection I realized there was a distinct color difference in the water that was separated by a lengthy log. Before me, to my delight was a cool composition; a mixture rocks, water, trees and a rain saturated landscape.

The post processing for this shot was a bit more difficult than normal. Although it was fairly warm out the camera recorded a deep blue tint into the image, a phenomenon I've only experienced in freezing temperatures or during Blue Hour. Nonetheless, it took about 2 hrs. post processing work (normal workflow is about 1/2 an hour) to pull this one out of the blue.

Check out my Facebook photo page Fultz Fotos, there’s different stuff there than here!

A beautiful waterfall on Eagle Creek in the Columbia River gorge of Oregon. This falls gets much less attention due to it being just down stream of the famous Punch Bowl Falls. It was a real scramble to get down to the splash pool, but so worth it for the unique view we were greeted with.

An impressive waterfall - 60ft tall and flowing deep and fast into its splash-pool below.

It's also one of the scariest places I've been in a landscape; this view is from a small platform area, a steep descent down the left face of the gorge. With my own dog for company there was limited space even to turn around and plant the tripod and camera bag.

This little (the flow over the log is only about a foot high) cascade is just off the splash pool below the beautiful Dry Creek Falls. From a fun Spring hike with Larry/bnzai9. On the way back we managed to miss the first turn onto the trail and walked down the road a ways, lots of nice creek shot opportunities there too. N18208

Laural Creek

Tributary Of The Gauley River

Gauley River National Recreation Area

West Virginia

What was hands down one of the coolest photographic subjects for me was on a tributary of the Gauley River at an unnamed falls on Laurel Creek in West Virginia. The hike down to the falls, although fairly short, was really steep, loaded with loose gravel and pushed me beyond my safety comfort zone but, wow, was it worth it. A beautiful towering waterfall with a massive double swirl in the splash pool and several great friends behind their lenses along the pools edge. Good times, I must say!

Fallingwaters Falls, AR

I found out about this location on my first van trip in the beginning of 2020. I drove up from I-40 (about an hour) and shot it early morning then. I wasn't overly happy with any of the shots I had taken that day, so when I had to make a plan B on a place to crash for the night I headed up this way. I had the late afternoon and early evening to photograph this waterfall. The water volume was much better than my first trip, which made photographing it so much better.

I did shoot a lot with my 10X ND filter, sometimes stacking it with my polarizer. This enabled me to get the splash pool smoother and lended itself better for what I was trying to capture here.
