After a great weekend with my other half in Louisville, Kentucky the weekend before Valentines Day, I thought I would scout a falls I had never seen before on our way home. Located in a small city park on the northern outskirts of town, when we pulled into the parks parking lot I was amazed to see that it was fully visible right there. It was raining lightly and the creek in front of the falls was moving pretty quickly. I couldn't believe how pretty the falls was and the interesting thing about this beauty is the splash pool is created by a small man made dam which overflows onto the viewing platform then falls into the creek making multiple compositions of the falls a challenge.

Odd notation of today's post, today is the 1 year anniversary that I last had an image make it into Explore. I find it a bit interesting that after having over 100 photos featured over 3 years it suddenly stopped. Weird.

It's not too often you find a falls that actually has two different falls that meet in the same splash pool. Shot back in December, this falls actually is quite difficult to shoot as spray from the large falls limits your perspectives. The spray seems to swirl around the small gorge but to make things even harder most of the wooden trail you aren't allowed to leave. Nonetheless, the scene is well worth a visit.

Built as phase one & two of the Christchurch north civic precinct (that's Christchurch Spire beyond it) local firm Plumb Design Group did the interiors. Demolition work started in October to make way for a civic splash pool and leisure centre.

This is a view of the splash pool at South Falls at Silver Creek State Park.

This is one of the most famous attractions in Oregon. This falls is 177ft high and is a real wonder to see in person.

For those of you who are thinking of visiting Oregon sometime.. I would highly recommend you visit South Falls.. You will be glad you did.. :-)

Sorry I have been MIA lately. I have been working on my photography website.. trying to tweak it a bit and add more images..

If any of you who have not seen it yet, and care to look at it.. the link to my site is on my profile page.. :-)

I will be back and active again on flickr soon.. Have missed you all .. :-)

Yosemite Falls is the highest measured waterfall in North America. Located in Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, it is a major attraction in the park, especially in late spring when the water flow is at its peak.

The total 2425-foot (739-m) distance from the top of the upper falls to the base of the lower falls qualifies Yosemite Falls as the 6th highest waterfall in the world (with the recent discovery of Gocta Cataracts it presently appears on some lists as the seventh).

The Ahwahneechee people of Yosemite Valley called the waterfall "Cholock" and believed that the plunge pool at its base was inhabited by the spirits of several witches, called the Poloti. An Ahwaneechee folktale describes a woman going to fetch a pail of water from the pool, and drawing it out full of snakes. Later that night, after the woman had trespassed into their territory, the spirits caused the woman's house to be sucked into the pool by a powerful wind, taking the woman and her newborn baby with her. This story was most likely concocted to caution people from approaching the dangerous splash pool.

Lower Yocum Falls

Yocum Creek

Kentucky

It's not very often that I get surprised when I go shooting waterfalls but this passed Sunday I got a very pleasant one. Our itenerary this day took us to several falls I've never been to and Yocum Falls was one of them. A roadside waterfall, Yocum is a towering 60 + ft. waterfall with interestingly a sister falls of nearly equal height just 200 ft. away. You can see both the falls from above, but I'm not usually one to settle for shooting a falls from above so we decided to descend into the gorge via this old road and walk the creek back up and in doing so this is what we were greeted with first and in my opinion it's one of the most beautiful in the state of Kentucky. There is a unique intimacy with the approximately 7ft tall waterfall that you rarely feel with Kentucky falls as it is enshrouded in rhododendron and the creek makes an abrupt 90 degree turn from the cliff wall, and the only drawback is the garbage that litters the creekbed, in fact there was a rear differential to some form of car and a tire attached to it just a few feet past the splash pool. Unfortunately our journey stopped here as the only way to see the two upper falls, Upper Yocum and Blaze #3, is to make your way up the falls and it was just a little too cold to commit to being that wet the rest of the day. We'll be back.

I hope to start getting caught up with everyone, things have been ultra busy around here! As always, thank you for stopping by and comments and favorites are very much appreciated!

In Summer, when the air and the water are warm, and water flow levels are down, is a good time to let young children learn what it means to be a mountain stream. Hard bottom streams with waterfalls are great for wading and splashing. Here at Campbell Falls the water in the splash pool is about 12 inches at its deepest. Above the fall there are lots of little pools to play in along the flat and hard stream bed. It's Whee! time.

I've never actually gotten this far along the edges of this particular waterfall before. The previous times the water flow prevented me from getting this close or to this side of the waterfall and splash pool. though not as picturesque as the upper falls, known as Cherokee Falls, this one is still worth the hike down to.

With more waterflow you can get some really nice shots from within the cascades and rocks lower down from the splash pool, which make for a nice foreground and the main waterfall in the background.

What I found most interesting about this falls is that towards the bottom near the splash pool, it had many individual little water falls as you can see in the center of the image. A fantastic thing to see. Doesn't it look rather refreshing? Especially after looking at all of those Southwest shots. :) (Best Viewed Large)

Hello everyone & happy Sunday! I hope you are all enjoying the last bits of your weekend. Today I will be sharing the first of many sets of photos taken by our photographer, Sean, of a project that The Design Firm has recently wrapped up for our client, Suki. Our client requested a palm desert theme for her full sim, with a total of four homes for herself & her family. We were also tasked with creating several gathering areas throughout the sim, where our client & her family can congregate, host functions & RP. With all of our clients requests in mind & our team eager to provide our client with a finished product that they can enjoy for years to come, we’ve created what may be the most in depth & detail-oriented project that The Design Firm has completed to date.

In this first set of photos, I’ve opted to showcase the recreational areas that we’ve designed for our clients. One of our clients first requests was to have an area dedicated to a basketball & tennis court. We took that request & hit the ground running. We chose to design a tennis court with a low surrounding wall, allowing the players & spectators to take in the panoramic view of the surrounding desert scenery. With the basketball court, we decided to lower it & incorporate it into the mountain that it’s partially built into. This provided great separation of both courts from one another, while still leaving both easily accessible via a pavilion, complete with lockers & water fountains!

We’ve also created a large communal pool, with a functioning water slide & several seating areas (with fire pits!) to keep our client & her family warm on those chilly desert nights. Lastly, we’ve created a fenced in children’s playground, with water features! We added in a waterslide with mini splash pool at the base of the slide, allowing our clients children & young family members to keep cool during those hot desert days!

As always, thank you so much for following, supporting & cheering us on at The Design Firm. Your support is extremely appreciated!

Lastly, I always recommend viewing my photos in full screen mode when able! This allows you to see the true depth and detail of the spaces that my colleagues and I create for our clients.

P.S. If you would like to know the name of the store or designer who has created any of the pieces that you see in this photo, please feel free to send me a notecard in world (Brinks Lemmon)

My batteries have been draining lately and I needed a little recharge. Waterfalls tend to do that for me. Today I went to one of the more easily accessible , yet private, places where I knew I could get my mojo back. I sat for a while on this log and sucked in the serenity. It worked. I'm back.

Mabel our five year old Dogue de Bordeaux (French Mastiff) shakes off the water while playing in a splash pool on a hot summer's day in the garden.

The icy waters of Yocum Falls come straight down from the glaciers of Mt. Hood. The lip below the falls' splash pool is a great place to find out just how cold it gets. I met up with Gary Meyers this morning at Trillium Lake before sunrise and we proceeded from there to Yocum, where we spent several hours making hundreds of images. This is a fascinating spot that neither of us had been to previously. So we took our time, stopping only when the mid-morning sun rose high enough to create blinding highlights on the top of the falls.

Shay's Run Cleanup

As many of you know, Hurricane Sandy tore through the Potomac Highlands area as a blizzard and downed many trees - several of them on a favorite stream in Blackwater Falls State Park. This is the second waterfall on Shay's Run and there were a few trees in and around the splash pool, and one tree was on the waterfall.

I'm excited to report that much work was done on Saturday to cleanup Shay's Run! Many thanks to Rob Gilligan (park superintendent) and Matt Baker (asst. park superintendent) for supporting the volunteer effort to get the cleanup rolling - please send them a note of gratitude if you're one of the many folks that enjoy photographing Shay's Run.

Matt and a few of the park employees along with 5 volunteers worked through snow, sleet and light rain to get as much done as we could. There's still a little bit more left to do at #2, but we need lower water levels to remove a submerged tree. However, it's awesome that Elakala #2 is now worthy of photographing again - I sure have missed shooting here! Thanks again to the park folks, and to Dave Miller and Jeff Fields for coordinating the cleanup effort w/ the park.

Perhaps the 2nd most beautiful Kentucky waterfall scene I’ve ever been lucky enough to lay eyes on, this was the heaviest flow I’ve ever seen on this falls, and I’ve never seen the splash pool so high. To top it off, where the water hit the rocks in the pool, it created one of the most unique sounds I’ve ever heard created by water, both indescribable and beautiful. I’ve hiked the moderate/strenuous ¾ mile several times now and I’ve never been disappointed. I’m just glad I was able to share this beautiful experience with my good friends Jason Haley, Randy Sanger and Todd Williams.

Stinging Fork Falls State Natural Area, a Tennessee Class II Natural-Scientific State Scenic Area, is located in Rhea County, Tennessee, near Spring City.

The Stinging Fork Falls trail terminates at the bottom of Stinging Fork Falls, a 30-foot (9.1 m) high waterfall, about 1 mile from the parking area. A future segment of the Cumberland Trail is planned to connect to the falls.

The 783-acre (3.17 km2) area is owned by the State of Tennessee and managed by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. It was formerly owned and managed by Bowater Paper Company, which designated several areas in Tennessee as "Pocket Wildernesses" for public recreation.

This is such a lovely little hideaway, I envision a mermaid rising out of the depths..........

The best part about this amazingly peaceful waterfall is the sound of the water hitting the splash pool. It isn’t a thundering sound like some of the other waterfalls I saw on the day, but more of the pitter-patter you hear from a shower. An appropriate waterfall for a rainy day.

Great Falls of the Potomac, Virginia (Jan 3, 2018)

Visited the very beautiful, Iron Creek Falls on Thursday. Such a gorgeous falls with a wonderful turquoise colored splash pool. Getting to this beauty was a lil challenging because of all the fresh snow covering the road and reducing FR 25 to one lane of deep snow for about 8 miles, so I felt pretty good about just making it.

Once I hobbled through the deep snow to the base of the falls, i was pretty excited with the view, but ticked off to no end because of the bright sun overhead. Luckily some clouds were floating towards the sun so I was in good shape for light after waiting for a bit.

And after all of this, I just want to go back to this wonderful falls and explore its beauty again, but do it dry and warm of course!

Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!

Horton Trail to Seneca Creek Falls.

Monongahela National Forest, West Virginia (May 16, 2015)

The remnants of the dwelling/fortress are in good condition, but very quiet now. Residents of this site and many nearby sites headed south between 1250 and 1280, escaping unsustainable conditions brought on by a 25 year drought.

Residents left many things--they dipped their hands in dye and pressed them on the wall, leaving signatures still distinct. Women ground corn and acorns on bedrock surfaces, gouging and polishing them into metates; they remain unchanged, still littered with corn cobs. Pictographs decorate the walls.

After a thunderstorm, water would spill from above, tumbling into the splash pool far below. That would be worth seeing and hearing.

This site on Comb Ridge is protected in the Bears Ears National Monument, established a year ago.

Secretary of the Interior Zinke and President Trump are considering reducing the size of the National Monument by 90%, to allow drilling for gas and oil, mining, and logging. For those who enjoy natural history and the history of our continent, this is a sacrilegious rape of natural resources and historical sites that deprives the public of their heritage and land just to make some rich people much richer.

Redid the postprocessing of this shot (slightly better than the earlier one, I think).

I'd visited upper Elakala Falls numerous times, hoping to capture that swirl in the splash pool. Conditions never allowed it...until this time.

Tolliver Falls

Swallow Falls State Park

Maryland

The 4 foot Tolliver Falls is one of the more difficult falls to shoot, with a splash pool twice as large as the falls itself, it makes finding an interesting foreground a challenge, so this time I thought I would try something a little different as opposed to when I was here last time.

With the exception of a day trip to West Virginia in June, the last time I've done any serious waterfalling was way back in April. Thanks to the drought I've been completely restricted from shooting my favorite subjects, now apparently that's going to change as 2 to 4 inches of rain is forecasted this weekend meaning I might get to chase some waterfalls this Monday!
