My lovely new Golding ringspindle, 28g, antique rose whorl, walnut. The fibre is a wool/silk/angora mix- so soft!
Abigail is new to the addiction of spinning. She's using a drop spindle meant for very very thin yarn; and she's making beautiful stuff with it!
This is first of two gorgeous, perfectly balanced spindles that was gifted to me. The whorl is Jatoba and the shaft, Cherry. The total length of the spindle from tip to tip is 12" with a stainless steel, hand bent hook (swan neck style).
The diameter of the whorl is 2 5/8 " and total weight of the spindle is 1.6 oz. Perfect for lace!

Spindle trees are so dull for the rest of the year - until they produce these sizzling hot pink and orange fruit.
That's the spindle that got everything else started. It's the first spindle I've ever purchased and it came with a little bag of pastel colored wool.
It's probably made out of beech wood and weighs about 50 grams.

The light caught the spindles in the house today really well. The eagle eyed wil notice that somebody has put all the spindles in upside down! I am really thinking about how to photograph 'the ordinary', to make it interesting.
I have never seen spindle fruit so heavily before! When the bright pink fruits open, they will reveal shocking bright orange seeds.

This is interesting. The spindle is mounted on a plate that can rotate 90 degrees. So you can have a vertical mill, or... a horizontal mill. I had no idea...

My daughter is getting interested in making her own yarn and asked for a drop spindle. This is the second one as she wanted one with the hook on the other end, too, just to try both out. It's all oak. Helpy was hoping to do a little climbing.

My first spindle, bought at NY Sheep & Wool in 2007. Who knew that such a pretty little thing would begin a love affair with spinning and spindling? I didn't note the maker (wish I had) or the vendor. Can anyone identify it for me? I LOVE this spindle... she's my go-to more often than not.
