My first temari-learner's ball- not bad but I did not cover the ball with enough string before starting the spindles. I am not close to another temari person so my learning has been long distance and books.
The commemorative plaque. Hopefully this is legible. They've tried to rid the world of this amazing monument: www.savethespindle.com/. David Bermant was the commissioner of the sculpture and partial partner in the development of Cermak Plaza where it resides. Judy Baar Topinka has said that the Spindle was the "pipe dream of a gentleman who felt he could impose his taste in art on others." What a bitch.
This is my new Greensleeves spindle. I absolutly love it! Now I can spin thinner. On the spindle now is baby alpaca from Northstar Alpacas.
East Indian Rosewood is the gorgeous wood used to craft the whorl on this Tibetan support spindle. The shaft is Cocobolo.
roadster spindle. left side replaced with a 16gc off a 26" wheel Raleigh. done correctly, it is plenty strong and safe. I've done a handful of these repairs and have had no failures yet! silver soldering the repair sleeve ensures spindle hardness is retained.

Plain Red Cedar whorl, Maple shaft. This wood has a subtle but very distinct grain and a wonderful color. In reality the color is a bit more on the pale purple side.

This spindle is conspicuous on the open area of the Forest known as London Road. Looking like unseasonal blossom, the scarlet capsules and orange seeds of the spindle. There are several spindle trees in Hatfield Forest, but none are shown on the nature trail guides.
A shamrock motif has been applied to the birch shaft of this spindle using pyrography. Dyed box elder has been used as an accent. The beautifully detailed whorl was crafted from walnut. This lovely spindle can be used as either a top or bottom whorl.
