My class spindle purchased during lessons with Diane Mulholland. Spindle is made from Cherry - not sure what wood the shaft is made from.

Single beads, pendants and spindle whorls, mostly made of semi-precious stones: rock crystal, carnelian, sardonyx, agate, steatite.amethyst. The pendants in different animal and vase shapes as well as the perforated crab pincer, offerings in a chil's burial, are noteworthy. All coming from chamber tombs in the town of Khania and the tholos tomb at Phylaki Apokoronou (1400-1200 B.C.)

This is an English walnut spindle, about 30g I think. Made by my mother for Wildcraft, but pinched by me before it made it to the shop for 'testing'. I'm still testing it, and it looks as though trials will continue indefinitely. In other words, I'm not giving it up :)
