We spend so much time in our heads... Analyzing. Wondering. Asking. Planning. STOP... come back to here, now. Where I am it's mid afternoon in late summer. The sunlight is flooding the grass... It feels still. And that's all there is for now. And all is well. {victoria erickson}

Many enjoy spending the day just hanging out at Quincy Market in Boston, Massachusetts either talking with old friends or just spending time together as a couple.

From my first day shooting with my recently purchased Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II. Looking forward to spending more time with this camera!! ❤️

DRY's photo

Have been spending very little time on the computer or out with my camera as I battle the effects of a concussion. Thankfully I am starting to see improvement and hope to be back to normal soon. During this time I have been out for a number of drives with Bob. I got to shoot this shot from the window. The brownish bird is the common form of the juvenile Mute swan. The white bird is a White Morph but still a juvenile. You can tell it is a juvenile by the color of the bill. If it was the adult Mute swan, the bill would be orange. Hello to all my Flickr friends. Hope to get caught up on what you are doing over the next while.

Great day for checking out the Theatre District. Where is all the traffic?

Just typical...spend a glorious week in Torridon searching for photo opportunities in fantastic conditions....get home and take the dog for a short walk and come across some fabulous drifts!

Spending a lot of time watching the Dippers hence so many images of them. Love watching how they work together and look after each other. Such a pleasure :)

My son sometimes tells me my photo eye is hopelessly romantic. My answer to him is: "SO WHAT"

Have a wonderful weekend.

Cape May Warblers spend a lot of time on these plants, and are drawn to them early in the morning (as in the image here, a first light experience) or at the end of the day. The reason is likely that certain insects hide in the complex Mullein flowers, but I don’t know for certain. They comb through the plant, often working from lower down and then upwards.

Like the transitioning male Wood Duck I posted yesterday, this is a bird in transition; but coming out of full breeding colours. There is something about the in-between stages of plumage, especially of birds we know well in their normal breeding colours (because that is when they initially pass through here, on their way to breeding grounds), that is fun to photograph. Juveniles, first year birds developing a base, or adults moving toward a more generic colouring; the birds seem to acquire an individuality lacking in the spring.

I squared the crop to remove some distracting background elements that I could not avoid with the camera at the time. What is sometimes ‘habitat’ is at other times ‘pointlessly busy and distracting stuff’. It is however not a math equation, with a right answer that I can ‘prove’. It can take me a long time to feel right about that, and I know I likely include too much more often than not. Working on it.

I wanted to post a bright late summer image because I am in Saskatoon, where it seems like it is mid-winter. Minus 20s at night, and lots of crunchy hard snow. I was in shorts in Ottawa three days ago.

Are we spending too much time infighting politically and forgetting the real global danger to the entire world. Peace and harmony are the only solutions but in order to achieve them we must work endlessly to that goal.

Shouldn't our politicians, news organizations, technology empires and vast corporations get involved in protecting humanity and our environment?

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

After spending more than 20 years of isolation, in 2020 46 013 of BDZ Cargo has been sent to RELOC S.A. Craiova (Romania) for a major overhaul. In the beginning of April 2021 the locomotive has been sent back to Bulgaria. Now it is serving freight trains mostly on the Sub-Balkan railway line, between Pirdop and Burgas. On the photo 46 013 is leading a big train with sulfuric acid from Pirdop copper mining plant towards the port of Burgas. Photo has been taken between Klisura and Rozino on 23 May 2021.

A trainspotting video from the Sub-Balkan railway line, including this train, is available here:

Spend the day or stay overnight Khao Sok National Park is stunning

After spending the afternoon working trackage at the Holly Refinery in Woods Cross, Big West Oil in North Salt Lake, and the Chevron Refinery in Salt Lake City, the YSC53 local pulls 32 cars along Warm "Stinky" Springs in Salt Lake City on May 16, 2023. Temperatures have finally warmed up along the Wasatch Front, topping 80 degrees in the capital city on this day.

I am back! Sorry to be gone so long! ♥

I rarely spend time photographing UP's 34 mile Salt Lake Subdivision. The surroundings are not particularly scenic, bordered by the I-15 superslab, heavy traffic, warehouses, and housing developments. When I saw this move, I had to give chase. The MROOG 06 (Roper to Ogden transfer) rolled by with a single GE C44ACM leader. It was relatively clean, so I gave chase. Being the journey would be in the thick of rush hour traffic, my options were limited. I decided to go for Cherry Hill with the sweeping 2 degree curve at Burton Lane in Kaysville. I managed to arrive with five minutes to spare, and would later discover the train had 235 cars, 82 loads, 153 empties, 15,671 gross tons, 13,938 feet of train, 1x1x1 DPU, all GEs.

Spending so much time here, figured I would just name them. Willie is still at his same tricks, trying to steal a free meal, and Curtis is trying his best to prevent him from succeeding. But Willie is shorter and quicker, so he does just fine.

After spending a few days in the vicinity of Whooping Cranes, our next destination during our first trip of 2025 was South Padre Island and the Rio Grande Valley.

A pretty reliable bird sighting at the South Padre Island Birding and Nature center is Black-bellied Whistling Ducks. Here are five of them.

Thanks to everyone that views and comments on my images - very much appreciated.

After spending the majority of the day chasing the Bessemer ore train South on Saturday, we got word of an NCRI getting ready to depart New Castle as we were heading thru butler. We got to Ellwood City with plenty of time to spare to pull of this shot which was my favorite from the whole day.

Just returned from spending a week and a half in Alaska visiting my sister and brother-in-law, and hoping to photograph the northern lights (stay tuned on that). One place I knew could be photographed no matter the weather was the Castner Glacier Ice Cave. This is a six exposure HDR image. A couple I met at the cave were nice enough to pose at the entrance to provide scale. There is a partially frozen stream that runs out of the cave. In the winter, it freezes over completely, but in the fall the ice is thin ... as I found out the hard way, but no harm no foul on that. Delta Junction, Alaska, USA, November 2021

Sethi spends the day on the sofa. Outside it's very windy and the weather seems to change every few minutes. Better to stay at home and do what cats do best. :)

Fynn is quite okay. After yesterday's dental surgery he is tired and sleeps a lot but the bleeding of the wounds has stopped. He is still drooling heavily but eats well and it doesn't seem to be too painful for him. The vet appointment for a check-up is next Monday provided that everything stays stable.

After spending time with the Swa11owtai1 K1tes I spent 4 mornings shooting along the west coast of Florida. Whimbrel was one of the species on my target list. I had a great session with this bird watching it forage and even got a crack at a flight shot. I actually anticipated this short flight and rose to my feet from my prone position flat on the beach to better position myself to attempt it but I neglected to bump up the ISO (I was in aperture priority). I was fortunate to get this one frame that wasn't so blurred.

I could spend everyday in the Bison Range. This was my first (two) visits since the land was restored to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes on the Blackfeet Reservation. It had been under the Federal Fish and Wildlife Service (the people who run the National Wildlife Refuges).

There was really no issue with *how* it was run under the federal government. The issue was that it should never have been federal at all, but simply part of the reservation (we're talking legally here, not morally).

Now, to the casual visitor, there's very little outward difference. The Flathead National flag flies above the visitor center. The pamphlets focus upon *all* of the history of the area - both tribal and white. The names of many of the hills and streams are in both English and Salish.

As to where the bison herds are, that was always dependent upon the bison. Some days you could drive the loop and see only one or two. Other times, you'd see dozens all over. There are also antelope, elk, coyotes, and any number of birds (including magpie!).

If you're traveling though Montana, you owe it to yourself to spend a couple of hours exploring the Bison Range.

July 2022

So after spending quite a bit of time in the tall grass this lovely Serval took cover under a bush, eventually coming out right in front of us and laid down.

She was so comfortable with us that we had time to go up the hill for a late lunch. When we came back down she was still in the same place preening, giving us some great photo opportunities.

This is part of a yawn after preening, definitely not a snarl.
