Northbound at Skibo

Sept 19, 1984

Wanted a different shot actually. one that the camera would be inside so the whole front windshield was captured. But i couldnt avoid the shake. This turned out pretty cool for me.

A decades old hiding spot for dark and sometimes unmarked Toronto Police vehicles to catch speeders travelling over 50 kph on the Richmond Street East exit ramp from the southbound Don Valley Parkway.

I loved the Lego Imperial Patrol Battle Pack 75207 . This was a great opportunity to expand the Imperial Army. The dual molded helmets on the patrol troopers look incredible. The Speeder that came with the pack was also good (for a battle pack) but I decided to update it to be a little more accurate.

John Player Norton Commando — 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed

Earlier this week, the hot weather brought many sun seeking day trippers to the North Norfolk Coast. As a result, on Monday & Tuesday the 1742hrs service 44A journey from Sheringham to Norwich via Cromer/Aylsham was covered by two vehicles. The relief bus, which only conveyed Norwich bound passengers, ran approximately five minutes ahead of the service car and on Tuesday the two vehicles involved were numbers 126 & 127.

In this shot, Sanders MCV Evoseti bodied Volvo B8L type 127 - ED23 SAN “Erin Daisy” is captured on the A140 at Erpingham as it approaches the High Noon Crossroads with the above Norwich bound service 44A journey. A slower than normal shutter speed of 160th was selected to ensure that my camera would pick up the destination display, but unfortunately the moving 127 is still slightly blurred, even though I tried panning the camera to compensate.

More liquid nitrogen fun.

We had three old spotty bananas on the table. I grabbed a few and tried some frozen banana shots.

This was the best, the spots and the broken parts flying out looked good.

The garage will now smell of over ripe banana.

An earlier shot.

The pellet is out of focus in the background. The black spot is the hole in the mirror used to get the picture.

I bought a set of hollow diamond drill to get the holes in the glass, much faster than the solid bit I was using for earlier shots.

Cheers.

I went down to Laguna Seca late last month to check out the Speed Ventures track day and Radical Sports car and EXR races. I took a bunch of photos digitally (to be posted shortly), but also brought along a new-to-me old film SLR; a Nikon F-801s. I thought this was supposed to AF with all of my Nikkor lenses, but it wouldn't work for me; so pardon some missed-focus shots; I had to do it manually. If R1 is in the image name, it was taken on Agfa Photo Vista 200; R2 was Ektar 100. Taken with one of the following lenses:

Nikon 24mm f/1.8G

Nikon 50mm f/1.8D

Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II

Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR I

Most of these could be improved in Lightroom or whatever, and I may do that eventually, but I'm posting these raw scans as-is, because that was the point of shooting the film for me, and I'm spending plenty of time in LR for the digital photos anyway. ^_^

'Speeders,' they are called... (Motor Cars) When the Railroads switched to converted pick-ups with wheels...thousand of these small cars became surplus and were sold to private collectors from around the world. Clubs... were formed : weekend events were put on the callender's; and low and behold you can gain tours on some of the most remote and scenic railways from the Pacific to the Grand Canyon to Jasper Nation Park in BC in your very own speedster. There is even a Flickr Group Flickr.com/speeders Check it out www.mowonline.org www.pro-online.org www.narcoa.org

Scanned from a faded print I found while going through my late brother's belongs, the photo was probably taken around 1940 with his Argus A north of Worthington,Ohio on the New York Central track. I asked Lampy for help in identification and he sent this interesting comment:

"Hello Don,

Yes, I know what it is, it's a early model Speeder, also known as a Putt Putt car, or a Motor car. They were

used to inspect track and for track maintenance men. We used them up to about 1980 on

The Milwaukee Road Railroad.

This was a fun photo to take. It's my first real 4x5 photo :) Developed at home! ... in a patterson roll film tank.

This adapter arrived from Yellow Jersey today -- a brilliant little device for retrofitting a single speed freewheel on the old French Helicomatic hub that came with my vintage Iseran. Notice the helical splines on the inside of the adapter.

The Iseran can be seen here:

Update: Sadly, Yellow Jersey no longer stocks these adapters and it appears the only way to get one now involves building a time machine. For anyone looking to convert a Helicomatic hub into a single speed, I've worked out a possible solution that doesn't involve the adapter.
