A nice 'middle of nowhere' shot of Class 37 37220 on Pathfinder Railtours 'Gwent Valley Explorer' at Machen. The mighty D200 was at the other end - top and tail.

Sound & Vision on SoundCloud - more memories from a mis-spent youth 😎 During the 1980s, I spent a lot of my time riding around the British Rail network, mainly chasing Class 40s and then Class 50s, but also seeing and riding behind a number of other classes. I made a number of tape recordings at the time - many from the front window, some from the platform - using my trusty 'ghetto-blaster' or 'boom box' - and now these recordings can finally be heard :)
Join me at the front window for two recordings of pioneer Class 40 D200 (40122) on this tour - a short pair of tracks recorded from the front window behind celebrity loco D200 (40122) as she makes a spirited departure from Cardiff with 1Z37 - the Gwent Valley Explorer railtour. In the first track, we here a group of bashers discussing whatever as the train prepares to leave Cardiff - the whistle finally blows and the driver gets D200 off to a cruise and then a gallop. Farewell to the Groombridge Branch Here we see a view of Class 207 DEMU 1317 which, coupled with 1311, was working the service between Eridge and Tunbridge Wells West via Groombridge - on the very last day of service, which was Saturday 6th July 1985. I was there along with two of my bashing friends Llew and Tim superb50002 to ride the line one last time, and take some photos. I also had my trusty 'Ghetto Blaster' or 'Boom Box' with me, and managed to capture some English Electric audio for posterity.

The British Rail Class 207 (3D) diesel-electric multiple units were built by BR at Eastleigh in 1962. The fleet had a lifespan of 42 years. The Southern Region Class 201 to 207 DEMUs were nicknamed 'Thumpers' due to the distinctive sound of their engines. When new the class were used on the Oxted Line, and were mostly concentrated on services between London Victoria and Uckfield and Eridge to Tonbridge via Tunbridge Wells. Other routes that the units operated included occasional workings on the Marshlink Line, the Three Bridges to Tunbridge Wells Central Line and the Cuckoo Line. Following the closure of the last two of these routes the unit gained workings on the Redhill to Tonbridge Line, and were known to deputise for 3R units on the North Downs Line to Reading. Aquí Maurice Rugit en Moulin Rugit FM. Esta mañana tenemos una radio entrevista con la amante de riffs de guitarra, la rockera colombiana Innita, presentándonos "Blueless" y el argumento detallado de su próximo álbum llamado "20/20".
En un giro audaz, lanzaste el sencillo "Blueless" ayer, una canción synthpop, cero guitarras, como el primer sencillo de 20/20. Sabemos que te encanta rockera duro con las guitarras, así que, ¿qué hay está detrás de este fuerte cambio de dirección?
Bueno, no es realmente un cambio de sonido, es más bien un espectro más amplio de melodías en mi trabajo. Me gusta mucho hacer discos conceptuales. Mi álbum de debut, "Rockanrose" fue un álbum conceptual también, pero este nuevo es más largo, cuatro veces más. El fondo narrativo es más detallado en esta ocasión, con más cambios de estados de ánimo tanto en la historia misma como en sus personajes. Por lo tanto, "20/20" podría ser percibida como una especie de banda sonora, y ésto significa la necesidad de componer de una manera ecléctica. Aunque es principalmente un álbum de rock con base en guitarra eléctrica, incluye algunas canciones para piano, y canciones synthpop, y canciones acústicas.
"Blueless" tienen ese “feel” de sintetizador 80ero, y sus letras de ltemática deera espacial nos deja saber algunas de las temáticas involucradas, ¿o me equivoco? Pódria decir que es una historia de ciencia-ficción.
En realidad no. 20/20 se trata de estar despistado en este mundo. 20/20 se refiere a la vanidad, el dinero, amores perdidos, amigos perdidos, esperanzas borrosas, la búsqueda del éxito, y por supuesto la ingenuidad que lleva tener sueños. Por lo tanto, quiero que incluya ese tipo de canción de anhelo de amor, ingenuo-feliz y sí, muy años 80s como dijiste, dentro del tono predominantemente oscuro de la historia. 20/20 tiene picos emocionales rosa y valles emocionales de color azul oscuro, igual que el par cian/magenta 3d. Es por eso que he llamado "Blueless" este primer sencillo. Esta canción es un pico ligero y entusiasta perdido en el valle salvaje profundo de la condición humana. Es optimista.
Ayer también diste a conocer el tracklist completo de 20/20, de 40 canciones de largo, compendio dividido en 10 capítulos. ¡Inmenso! Con los títulos, confieso que estoy bastante intrigado por la historia. ¿Puedes dar un resumen exclusivo para nuestros oyentes ... .. y también para mí?
Ok, Ok, pero debes saber sé que lso presentadores de programa de radio usan sus oyentes de una manera cortés para contar con invitados wue den avances en exclusiva para ustedes (risas). No es que sea problema para mí. De hecho, te voy a dar una sinopsis extendida, si ese término tiene sentido (risas).
Me muero por escucharla.
20/20 tiene tres personajes principales: Polly Wood , la actriz de San Diego que estrelló suRolls-Royce , tiene ella tiene ese estilo Lindsay Lohan-esco. Magenta Rojas , escritora con problemas de dinero nacida en Tijuana, la mayor y mejor amiga de infancia de Polly , 4-5 años más que Polly, ella tiene ese mala suerte Kafkiana. Y Cyanne D'arc , una bailarina Parisina de ballet, ex de Magenta, con la misma edad que la de Wood, 20.
Con tu misma edad.
Sí, pero no es una especie de relato autobiográfico.
Continúa, por favor, no voy a interrumpirte más. No puedo esperar (guiño).
(Burlas) Muy bien. La historia comienza con Polly Wood salvádnose del mencionado accidente en su Rolls Royce, consecuencia de un colapso emocional trastornado al ser abandonado por su novia días atrás. Y días después del accidente, Polly supo que su amiga más cercano de la infancia, Magenta, murió por inanición. Como que su vieja amiga lo hizo a propósito, mezcla de depresión económica y emocional transformada en un suicidio lento al parar de comer, y Polly se pregunta acerca de ella habiendo sobrevivido y ser millonaria y exitosa, en contraste con Magenta, [literalmente] muerta de hambre. La Policía apartamento Magenta encuentra un manuscrito inédito en español, una novela autobiográfica llamada "Hambre". El libro se publica y es un gran éxito, best-seller. Y así, una adaptación de Hollywood del libro se pone en marcha, lanzando a Polly en el papel de Magenta.
Ups.
Sí. La película es un éxito de taquilla. Magenta gana de manera póstuma una gran fanaticada tanto de culto como “mainstream”. Polly se halla en un sentimiento de culpa desde que la película comenzó y en un nivel superior -o inferior , dependiendo del punto de vista- ahora, sintiéndose muy incómoda siendo más rica y más famosa usando la vida de Magenta, como si su propia vida fuera vacía en sí. Y echando sal a las herida, la ex-novia de Magenta, Cyanne, termina conociendo a Polly personalmente, para luego salir con ella y enamorarse de ella. Cyanne ve en Polly la segunda parte, viva, de Magenta (Innita ríe oscuramente).
Definitivamente tiene el sabor de ópera rock hasta ahora. Por favor, continúa.
Gracias! (Innita le muestra una gran sonrisa). Premio de la Academia a la Mejor Actriz es ganado por Polly por su papel de Magenta, pero aún con eso, la relación de Polly-Cyanne es víctima de los paparazzi y la prensa amarillista. Y la industria de televisión ve beneficio en esto, convenciendo a Polly de hacer una comedia burlona Larry David-esque de su vida, con situaciones de humor negro acerca de ser exitoso a expensas de la muerte de su amiga, así como tener la ex-novia de su amiga muerta de ganancia romántica. Y después .... en este punto, felizmente he estropeado detalles de la historia pero no quiero echar a perder diciendo conclusión de 20/20. Por supuesto, si yo fueera una escritora , no hubiera dicho nada sino unas unas pocas palabras de la trama. Pero esto es sólo Rock 'N' Roll, y me gusta que sea así (guiño).
"Too Much Information", citando a Duran Duran, pero en el buen sentido. Este fue regalo súper tamaño gift.You me dejó mucho que pensar. Aunque sé que te quedas aquí en París desde hace varios meses, tiempo que por tenerte a ti de nuevo, pronto, quizá la próxima semana, en sesiones en vivo de "Blueless".
Oh la la, Cest trés chic. Por supuesto voy a estar aquí.

Memories of Southall station It was the Thursday before Easter Sunday, and I had stationed myself at my old childhood spotting haunt of Southall footbridge to photograph some of the Easter relief services that were timetabled. Of course back then there was plenty of traction to distract the photographer :)
50023 'Howe' is seen here accelerating away from a red signal with an eastbound parcels train. Note the old footbridge that used to pass over the tracks here, allowing Southall residents to get quickly over the railway without walking up to the road bridge. There was also an 'off-chute' with steps leading to the diesel depot - ostensibly for railway staff only, but which became a well-used spot for train spotters over the years (yours truly included) - all now sadly dismantled (and taken away to Didcot Railway Centre apparently). 50023 is wearing the original version of NSE livery with upward stripes on the cabs and white window surrounds - this livery was superseded by a darker shade of blue, straight lines and no white paint around the windows.

After ending up at C. F. Booth's of Rotherham, 'Howe' did eventually make it into preservation, but was used for spares and eventually cut up. It actually spent 14 years languishing at various railway dumps and scrapyards before being broken up by H.Needle Railroad Co. at Barrow Hill Depot in March 2004.

Gatwick in the 80s - a view from the Roof Terrace
In the 1970s and 80s, Gatwick had a dedicated viewing terrace on the roof of the only terminal building. It was used by flyers, relatives and plane spotters alike, and it even had a café and fountains! It enabled quite a panoramic view of the airport.
I captured this smart looking Virgin Airways Vickers 802 Viscount G-AOHT as it taxied past the viewing area to the stand at London Gatwick. Surprisingly, the aircraft only had another year of flying life left before retirement and eventual scrapping at Southend. In view is the Shell Oil base and tankers plus in the distance the newly created biz jet park, with two Learjets, a Cessna Citation and Bell 206 Jet Ranger helicopter in view.
The Vickers Viscount was a British medium-range turboprop airliner first flown in 1948 by Vickers-Armstrongs. A design requirement from the Brabazon Committee, it entered service in 1953 and was the first turboprop-powered airliner.
The Viscount was well received by the public for its cabin conditions, which included pressurisation, reductions in vibration and noise, and panoramic windows. It became one of the most successful and profitable of the first postwar transport aircraft; 445 Viscounts were built for a range of international customers, including in North America.
Type 802 First production variant of the 800 series for British European Airways with Dart 510 engines and either 53 or 57 seats, 24 built, first delivered in February 1957. More info on the Viscount here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vickers_Viscount#Specifications_(Type_810)
G-AOHT c/n 168 - Vickers 802 Viscount - delivered new to BEA in June 1957 named 'Ralph Fitch', flying with them until April 1974 when the airline merged with BOAC to form British airways. Continued to fly with them until 1981, when the aircraft was then leased out to various airlines, as ZS-SKY with Aqua Avia Society, and as G-AOHT with Bouraq Indonesia, BAF, Euroair, and finally Virgin Atlantic Airways - returned to BAF in 1986 and withdrawn July 1987. Broken up around March 1991.

LA NEOMUDEJAR LNM Centro de artes de vanguardia y residencia artística internacional. Calle Antonio de Nebrija s/n. Estación de Atocha, Madrid.
La Neomudejar tiene como prioridad favorecer, impulsar y dar visibilidad al creador emergente. La creación por encima de los discursos y las teorías imperantes en los circuitos actuales del arte. El centro de artes de vanguardia entronca con la base de las teorías naturales de contraposición al arte establecido. Esta arquitectura creativa parte de la identificación de las carencias del colectivo artístico y opta por una respuesta basada en la ejecución por encima del discurso academicista imperante. El objetivo es asentar un espacio internacional de referencia, para creadores multidisciplinares con carácter de continuidad para los nuevos códigos y lenguajes que profundicen en la experimentación. Videoarte, instalaciones, performes, street art, parkour, robótica, translación de cuerpos, etc… son algunas de las disciplinas que pretende acompañar. Especial atención se da a formatos tecnológicos de nueva generación así como a los desechados, que merecen una revisión al amparo de un reciclado consciente y creativo en pugna con la inmediatez y caducidad de las sociedades de consumo actual.
Un espacio con vocación de Resistencia Artística Internacional. Para ello se hizo un trabajo de investigación a fin de encontrar el inmueble adecuado a la singularidad de la propia propuesta. Tras más de un año de trabajo y gracias a la colaboración de Adif, que apoya el proyecto de forma continuada dentro de su programa de Responsabilidad Social y Sostenibilidad, se firma un contrato de alquiler en condiciones especiales para el desarrollo y recuperación del espacio como el Centro de Artes de Vanguardia y Residencia Artística Internacional. La recuperación del espacio adquiere una dimensión diferente al tomar la arquitectura y la decadencia del edificio como punto de inflexión para reflexionar sobre los procesos de creación y rehabilitación. Poner en valor estos conceptos es parte y todo del concepto de “La Neomudejar”. El marcado carácter como espacio de trabajo viene derivado de uso original ya que albergó durante décadas los talleres de formación de Renfe. Los lucernarios, la cubierta en diente de sierra, los amplios espacios, las antiguas calderas, la fragua, el mobiliario de carpintería, etc… terminan por reforzar este concepto.
La Neomudejar pertenecía a la antigua estación de Atocha y la vía del tren llegaba a la misma puerta desde donde se surtía directamente desde los vagones de mercancías. Por ello podemos relacionar históricamente al edificio con la vanguardia ya que en el momento de su construcción –Finales del S XIX, comienzos del XX-, las principales estaciones de ferrocarril eran la puerta de las ciudades al mundo por donde entraban todas las innovaciones tecnológicas y por supuesto, artísticas. La situación geográfica dentro de la ciudad de Madrid también es un punto relevante para conceptualizar de nuevo este antiguo edificio ya que se encuentra en las inmediaciones del llamado eje Prado-Recoletos que engloba la principal oferta cultural de la ciudad abarcando el Museo del Prado, Museo Nacional Centro de Artes Reina Sofía, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Caixa-Forum Madrid y La Casa Encendida.
El estilo arquitectónico del edificio, encuadrable en el neomudejar, del que toma nombre la institución, provee al centro de una señas de identidad propias. Un estilo que se enmarca dentro de las corrientes medievalistas europeas de finales del XIX que reivindican estilos propiamente nacionales, en este caso un estilo puramente español, el mudéjar, que en su reinventado desarrollo decimonónico se ve unido a las construcciones industriales, ferroviarias, religiosas y especialmente a las taurinas, encontrándose cantidad de ejemplos de construcciones neomudéjares en todo el país, y muy singularmente en la ciudad de Madrid.
