Garifuna shellhorn being played at MusicWorks NYC Studios.
The Garifuna are African descendants who escaped from a spanish slave ship which was shipwrecked off the coast of St. Vincent in the 1600's. The Garifuna community in the U.S dates back to the 1800's and number an estimated 40,000 strong in New York alone.

KIELZOG winnaar PARADEPAARDJE 2017!
Carilijne Pieters en Jesse de Vries winnen met hun docufilm - KIELZOG - de film award
Het Paradepaardje 2017, tijdens de vierde editie van het NIEUWE FILMERS FILM FESTIVAL 2017 in de Verkadefabriek in Den Bosch.
De jury met Ilona van Heeckeren filmprogrammeur, San Fu Maltha filmproducent en Mike Weerts acteur en producer, was unaniem in haar beslissing en lichtte hun keuze als volgt toe:
KIELZOG - 'een mooi klein document over een schippersfamilie. We vinden het erg knap dat de makers er in geslaagd zijn om in 1 week een docu te maken met een verhaal waarin rekening is gehouden met de gekregen opdrachten. Er is een zeer originele keuze gemaakt. De chemie tussen de makers en hoofdpersonen in de docu is voelbaar. De makers werken mooi observerend en zijn zelf afwezig. De beelden werken mooi symbolisch en zijn in balans met het verhaal wat wordt verteld. Het is duidelijk dat de makers beschikken over talent om serieus door te groeien binnen het maken van documentaire. '
KIELZOG is één van de zeven korte films gemaakt door jonge filmmakers tijdens het ONE WEEK FILM PROJECT van 14 t/m 18 augustus jl. Tijdens het NIEUWE FILMERS FILM FESTIVAL zijn alle films in première gegaan en maakte het publiek kennis met de makers middels Q&A met de makers door gastheer Coen Haver.
Carilijne Pieters en Jesse de Vries ontvingen uit handen van de jury behalve de film award Het Paradepaardje ook twee extra prijzen; een geldprijs van € 500 aangeboden door het Hermes kunst & cultuurfonds en een waardecheque van € 750 ter beschikking gesteld door Budgetcam Cameraverhuur, voor de huur van filmapparatuur.
Ook reikte de jury prijzen uit in de categorieën: 'Beste acteur' Gustavo Ruben Valenzuela [Intrus]
'Beste actrice' Caroline Lichtenberg [Onder Dwang] , 'Beste DOP' [director of photography] Carilijne Pieters [Kielzog] , 'Beste sounddesign' Lars Burgwal' {Agent [...] }, 'Beste editor ' Left Handed [Kielzog] en 'Beste productie design' Floor Timmer {Agent [...] }
NIEUW dit jaar was de Publieksprijs. Het publiek koos voor de film INTRUS van regisseur Tim Ewalts en team Phantom.
EXTRA EXTRA prijs! Masterclass Film verzorgd door de juryleden i.s.m. Nieuwe Filmers/ Verkadefabriek. Dit werd tijdens het Film Festival bekend gemaakt. De masterclass is een uitgelezen kans voor de regisseurs met enkele van hun teamleden om hun werk met deze filmprofessionals te bespreken !
Het NF Film Festival werd mede mogelijk gemaakt door de Verkadefabriek, Gemeente
's-Hertogenbosch, Travel Doctor, Gofilex Zeist , Hermes Kunst & Cultuurfonds en Budgetcam Cameraverhuur. NIEUWE FILMERS is onderdeel van SOLOS.

Each horizontal line of the interface represents the opportunity to create a different set of sounds, rhythms and percussion instruments. By combining a variety of rhythms using several parallel lines of the interface, the musical outcome can be as complex and varied as the polyrhythms of African, Cuban or Latin percussion. (Chris Brown described those musical cultural traditions as being early influences on his work.)

Taking part were Ann Kroeber (Blue Velvet, Dead Poets Society), Catherine Hodgson (Atonement, Jane Eyre), Jo Jackson (Long Walk to Freedom, Suffragette), Judi Lee-Headman AMPS (Homeland, The Bible), Paul Davies (Hunger, The Queen, ’71, We Need to Talk About Kevin), Neil Cargill and Simon James (Akiha Den Den), Matthew Herbert (Life in a Day, Bodily Functions, One Pig), and Mike Brett (Notes on Blindness).

Na het voorlezen van het juryrapport volgde de spetterende prijsuitreiking van de film award Het Paradepaardje 2019 mét de geldprijs t.w.v. 2750,- door de vakjury aan de winnende regisseur en team! Het prijzengeld bestaat uit de Hermes Kunst & Cultuurfondsprijs t.w.v. 500 euro, de BudgetCamera waardecoupon t.w.v. 750 euro én 1500,- vanuit SOLOS Nieuwe Filmers gefinancierd uit het budget van de Van den Udenhout- Chappin Cultuurprijs. Het prijzengeld moet binnen 1 jaar door de winnaar / het winnende team worden besteed aan de realisatie van een nieuwe film [fictie, docu,animatie]! Nieuwe
Filmers biedt hen in de opstart een filmproducent als coach.
De korte films zijn gemaakt tijdens het One Week Film Project 2019. Teams van een nieuwe generatie jonge filmmakers maakten in 5 dagen tijd ieder een nieuwe korte film in elk denkbaar genre!
Het publiek kiest de winnaar van de Publieksprijs. De jury overhandigde de winnende regisseur en het team een cheque t.w.v. 200 euro + 2 kaarten Industry Day Go Short. >> NEWS >> De geldwaarde van de prijs werd zaterdagavond spontaan verhoogd met 500 euro door een spontane gift van Janneke Rijnders en Jos Claassen uit het publiek!! Creative production studio +1 (www.plusoneamsterdam.com) has made a new promotional video for Images for the Future. The assignment was to portray the main goals of the project in a short amount of time. With this beautifully made movie we can explain to everyone what Images for the Future represents.
+1 made the clip with a wonderful mix of old-fashioned cutting and pasting (with scissors, paper and glue) and advanced 3D technology. Check out the pictures to see a glimpse behind the scenes.
